Highly rated QB Picks Pack

Last night’s ESPN crawl was particularly sweet for NC State fans. As “TOBtime” shared in our message forums:

Last night, while watching Al/TN baseball game I notice the ESPN scroll says Delvon Simmons (4 star DT) is now going to Texas Tech and has DECOMMITTED from unx. Immediately following that scroll it talks about Mr. Summers and says he has verbally committed to NC State. FOllowing the NC State part was 1 other statement – Summers also had an offer from North Carolina.

The news hit our message boards yesterday (link), but we wanted to get it on the main blog this morning now that the mainstream press started reporting it…

…highly rated dual-thread Greensboro Page High School quarterback, James Summers has committed to NC State. Summers chose State over North Carolina and East Carolina.

As is the customary, there is a lag time in the recruiting cycle between good performance and recruiting bounty. It now appears as though Coach Tom O’Brien and staff are now in the process of converting last year’s great performance into a future Wolfpack roster.

Summers is NC State’s third commitment for 2012 joining two athletic defensive backs — Niles Clark of Georgia and Southern Nash’s Josh Sessoms (recruiting by East Carolina and Virginia Tech amongst others).

    Elude = escape or avoid
    Allude = hint at

    Sorry, it is Friday and I am bored.

    i’m not against a running back by committee by any measure. but at some point in time, hopefully this year, i would like to see a 1000 yard rusher. alot of that has to do with style of play and touches these guys get. i’m not in favor of running a kid in the dirt… i’d just like to see our running backs being fully showcased while they are in school here and moving onto nfl careers. imo, recruits look at these types of measurements too and follow the publicity/popularity or what have you to the school… i think it would help!

    The ratings game depends on where the player ends up.

    For example a guy from a small one horse town that committed to Furman will have a 1 star rating then if he gets an offer from Florida or Bama and accepts he all of a sudden becomes a 4 star.

    A player going to State will never get the same rating as a an equivalent player ending up at VaTech.

    Wolfy_79, I agree with you on 1000 yard rushers bringing attention to the school. The first reply you made also concerning TOB getting the recruits he wants after 4 sraight wins over fagolina took the words right out of my mouth.

    The same thing will apply to b-ball. If Gottfried can’t beat K and Roy on a consistent basis, the recruits won’t start pouring in for us on the hardwood either.

    But don’t ever forget, we are the lunatic fringe who’s only reason for wanting to beat unx is for the sake of beating them. It wouldn’t have anything to do with benefiting the program as a whole now would it?

    “i would like to see a 1000 yard rusher.”

    I would like to see two of ’em.

    The NFL is almost entirely RB by committee now. There are maybe 6 true workhorse RBs in the league. If you can avoid a steep drop off after your #1 on the depth chart, the committee is the way to go.

    sure, i see that and don’t entirely disagree! i guess the only thing i’ve seen thus far is the “steep drop off” as you said. i think as we grow as a program this will be a moot point?

    i guess my main beef with the offense is that we don’t run all that much from traditional formations.. but in the same light.. TOB adjusts the offense to the personnel.. mainly the qb. so now with glennon versus russell we might see a little more run.

    we host those GD MF Cheating Tar holes this year in Raleigh. I hope we can make it 5-0. I would forfeit all the other games to win that one. Cheating bastards. Rules? Rules are for suckers….. sucka!!!

    haha.. i’m highly interested in how the coming season will play out in general but as far as the unx appearance at carter finley.. i hope this one is a statement.. it’s tough to beat unx or any of our in state foes 4x’s in a row… i just think we will continue to get better and better with TOB at the helm.

    when is the ncaa going to release the punishment for unx? i visited the ncaa.com to just get a better feel for the timeline.. one thing that stuck out was a stance on not punishing the players too harshly?? with no bowl games? i wonder if anything happens to unc-cheat?

    Russell Wilson was a 2-start. Give me a two-star anyday with a career like he had.

    BJ Raji is another example of a TOB-signee who started off with 2 stars and finished a first round draft pick. He wasn’t nationally ranked even among DTs out of high school, only got offers from BC and Rutgers (I think), and then went on to be the 9th overall pick in his draft.

    Would I like NC State to be a prime destination for the nation’s top talent? Of course. But TOB knows what he’s doing and has done it pretty well so far. I’m not going to start wringing my hands and getting all up in a Wolfpacker tizzy finding something to be ticked off about…at least until the season starts.
