“I think this staff will do good things” and “The year off will help me improve in many ways” ??? Aren’t they mutually exclusive? Why would you NOT want to be part of good things and improving ON the court vs OFF the court?

Ryan, you were the one I least wanted to leave. I hate to bust your bubble young man. But, if you don’t want to be here, see ya.

Good luck Harrow. Not sure that was a smart decision on your part but its the right thing if you are not happy. Apparently his Lowe “bond” was too much to get over. Didn’t he say he loved NCSU? I guess I thought there was more to it than his love for Lowe. Oh well…

I still don’t see how this is a smart move but let’s not play into the “tweeter/facebook” drama he loved. I mean he was so vocal about his love for the school and our fanbase. Just weird…

    Lame.

I don’t understand this decision, but if this is what Ryan wants — good luck to him.

I don’t typically call out players, but this kid seemed to be a selfish head case from the get go.

This will be addition by subtraction on the attitude/chemistry front. I think the year off will do Harrow a lot of good. He needs to mature both physically and emotionally. I hope he is successful wherever he goes. In every organization it ultimately comes down to fit.

If you remember at his signing he said he would show the same respect towards Lowe that he showed to him early on. Or something to that effect. He was committed to Lowe more than NC State.

    Marginal to the very end…

  9. theTHRILL 04/26/2011 at 4:36 PM #

I supported the kid, but his proclivity to tell fans how they are supposed to behave never sat well with me. Now he can go post on his new team’s message board when they don’t behave the way he wants.

Sounds like sour grapes in here. Kids commit to coaches over schools all the time. In fact it’s the rule more than the exception. Wish the kid luck and let’s move on with the Lo Brown era. Might not be all bad if he can stay injury free all year.

Good riddance. I have always had a dislike for this narcissistic kid after his attempt at holding the fanbase hostage over Lowe while he was in high school. He is not near as good as he thinks he is (or wishes he were). I’m glad I don’t have to have a player I actually dislike as a person representing my school.

If my memory and the old posts are correct, Harrow was the one that wrote “open letters”. The one who also chided C.J. Leslie into signing. Harrow obviously was a Lowe supporter. There is MORE here than meet’s the eyes….and there is more here than will be known to us “outsiders”. It appears that his comments about NCSU were more about playing under Lowe. And, as much as Lowe has been bashed here, his PRO talent and contacts should have some impact on how a player is preceived and received. Harrow did not have the numbers that we all wanted, but he did have a LOT of potential. We will be a bit weak at PG, no matter HOW you slice this. Our one PG recruit will also have to mature. Harrow had been coming on, after beating Javi out for the job. He still made some mistakes….and I’ve seen Seniors make mistakes.

I really am disappointed that he is leaving, but you gotta have confidence in Coach Gottfried. Will be interesting to see who pops up on the radar. I know that the entire staff is hot on the recruiting trail and that a LOT of private jet fuel is being consumed so that they can visit three or more teams in one day.

Is there any chance the staff signs a PG this late in the game for next season? Or are we pretty much done for this season and will have to roll with Brown, Williams, Wood and the new kid Randolph in the backcourt? Depth now becomes an issue. Sure hope Wood has firmed up with the staff and is definitely not going anywhere.

I had hoped the team would stay intact, but Harrow obviously was not a diehard wolfpacker, and his loyalty to Lowe would have only been a hindrance to the team. And not trying to be mean, but Harrow had quite an annoying voice. Gottfried will fill the PG vacancy, and like Larry Drew, of the tarholes. Harrow will see we will survive without him. I am still excited about what the coming season will bring. Go Wolfpack!

Was never really impressed with Harrow. Extremely weak, turned it over far too much and couldn’t hit the backside of a barn. We’ll be fine.

  16. UnclePen 04/26/2011 at 5:05 PM #

A prima donna head case. 5 star recruit with no leadership qualities. He was ranked above Kendall Maarshall out of HS and Kendall kicked his but all around this year.

    We’ll be fine.

A lot of the “Holes” seem to be State fans. This was a good young man with a lot of potential. We will see him on TV in 12/13.

Anybody know the latest on the PG from Iowa that wanted to play for Gottfried? He left Iowa but haven’t heard if he’s still a PG option for the Wolfpack this coming season.

  19. Thinkpack17 04/26/2011 at 5:10 PM #

“turned it over far too much…”

Lol. Some of you guys are haters, I remember hearing he had nearly a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio. That’s pretty good for a freshman guard on a bad team. Pro teams give bonuses for guards finishing with a 3:1 TO margin.

Some folks have VERY short memories. I will NOT make apologies for Ryan Harrow. DeCock has a GREAT read (obviously, since I agree with it) here.

    http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/decock-harrows-decision-unsurprising-unfortunate

If you search the archives here or do some googling, read all the GLOWING comments about Harrow from the posters. He seemed to be a REAL RED & WHITE BB player. What we SHOULD learn from this is that he came to NCSU BECAUSE of Coach Lowe. And that, apparently, is the reason that he left. Coach Lowe let him EARN his starting role….something that he did NOT do with JJ Hickson…with disasterous results.

Harrow’s departure is a loss. I have confidence in Coach Gottfried, but I think his “bonus incentives” NOW has much longer odds without Harrow….but he may pull a JC Transfer PG out of the hat and we will all be lusting over ACC Tourney Tickets in Atlanta next year….just don’t bet your 401K on it…

I am really sorry that Harrow is leaving and I do wish him well. I also do NOT feel that “trashing or bashing” him here or calling his maturity into question accomplishes ANYTHING.

He made up his mind. Gottfried OBVIOUSLY tried to talk him out of it and failed.

We lost the 4th leading scorer off the 10th place team and a 15-16 record – I think we can somehow go on with our lives.

  22. EdMar 04/26/2011 at 5:32 PM #

Good luck Harrow! We will miss you. We are back to running the point guard position by committee and that has not worked well in the last few years. Harrow has a lot of potential and another year older, maybe gaining some weight and experience would have made him a much better player.

No pressure for Gottfried, we should be picked near the bottom. Well…we have to play with what we have and do the best we can. Here we go again, a few years to rebuild and the only thing we can count on is HOPE.

  23. tuckerdorm1983 04/26/2011 at 5:36 PM #

so who runs the point? Brown?

  24. Hungwolf 04/26/2011 at 5:41 PM #

I wish Harrow well. but I will say it again. Brown had a big smile on the new coaching hire cause he knew he would mean he will get more PT. Word was as season progressed Brown played better in games and was better than Harrow in practice. I think Brown knew if given a fair chance he was going to play ahead of Harrow. I think Harrow knows it to and he transferring to get get better and get playing time. If Brown takes the point and we have another point coming in, then Harrow may have been looking at being a back up for the rest of his time here. I don’t see this as us taking a step back at all. Lowe didn’t always play the best player. Gottfried will and that has to be exciting to many of the players and disappointing for Harrow and maybe Scott Wood.

I am disappointed that Harrow has decided to transfer. However, it always appeared that he committed to Sidney instead of NC State.

He might go on to another school and be highly successful. I do not know what his career will become in the long run. I have always refused to be negative toward a college player so I will not start now.

However, if he does not want to be here and be one of us…See ya!!
