    Debbie didn’t sound tough to me; she sounded like a whiner desperately looking to come up with an excuse as to why she failed in the coaching search, even using a search firm. I don’t have a problem with the first part of her remark – that is candid and direct, and that’s fine and yes, refreshing. But to claim he sabotaged the search, even if true, is just whiny and petty and reeks of buck-passing. Honestly, that’s what I would expect from Chapel Hill.

    But hey, she rebounded better than Fowler did. I don’t think Gottfried is the answer – I think he’ll top out about where Herb did – but this is one step forward after the most recent two steps back.

    What NCSU athletics needs is a total overhaul of its communications department, with the aid of a seasoned PR firm. The media doesn’t lambaste State because they hate us. They do it because we’re easy pickings because our SID and PR teams suck, and I think this search is prime evidence of that suckage.

    It is funny to see two adults who don’t like each other act like kids. So be it. It stokes the rivalry until the time Maryland finally has to tell Gary ‘thanks for the memories’. That day may be in about a year. Bring on the UMd rivalry. Gary is Raleigh’s public enemy #1.

    Interesting comments…..my daughter and wife are still LOL about the “whatever” comment. SHE did NOT bring it up. She could have said, No Comment…..then all of your would be griping about how she did not have “nads” to be an AD.

    She did NOT (listen to the presser) say was sabotaging the process. She said he was “Gary Williams” and difficult to work with….get over it.

    Gottfried is a good hire…..and DO NOT mess around with his wife. They guys on the FAN are already chuckling, but also with a bit of trepidition, about her calling in and “giving them the business”.

    She is one tall mama also….look at the pictures of her next to him. She seems to have a bit of fire….and that is probably good.

    You guys DO recall that Mikey (I think that is her name) K (I can’t pronounce Coach Mikey K’s last name, much less spell it) also has a high spirit. She has been interviewed and she has black balled some really good (BB talent) recruits and told Mikey to forget them….they would be trouble. Wish that Pam Valvano had been a little more involved…She also told him that unless he calmed down and paid more attention to her and his family that she would no longer be in the stands as Ex-Wives are not usually welcome in Cameron, or any other venue.

    AND, if you want to look at a couple….look at Mr. & Mr.s Harper (and not the PTA of the Valley). That young lady dominates the program. He is there, sometimes, to calm her down, but when she waves him off, he sits down. I suspect that Kelly Harper and Debbie Yow have a lot of the same personality traits.

    I think that Debbie is refreshing….I will not comment on the gender thing and I have been WAY past that….in my former work career, I knew a LOT of very strong females and they had “nads” bigger than their bosses, two levels up.

    Don’t mess with Debbie…..she will tear your heart out and while you are lying there a dying….say, “Whatever”…

    Pretty unprofessional IMO on Mr. Doyel’s part. He just aired allegations on a sports talk show, and hasn’t even written an article?

    I am guessing this wasn’t the plan, but if it was, somewhat shrewd maneuver for Yow to elevate Maryland as a big (even bigger?) rival. (Maybe she should have someone found a way to pick a fight with Miami?) I mean, Carolina is reloading, but how good will the Terps be?

    I am man enough to admit when I’m wrong. A few days ago I chastised the whiners to wait until a coach was named, THEN bitch…wow…I liked the bitching better BEFORE we named a coach. I stand corrected. As for me, I am fully in support of our AD and our new coach – GO PACK!

    PS I know people need to vent from time to time, but damn… some of you make me ashamed you’re Pack fans…if you can’t take the heat of being a Pack fan, pull for Butler.

    Maybe it’s just me, but I think Yow and Gottfried have a better chance of staying at NC State longer than Williams at Maryland. That reasoning is not from our past history of allowing mediocrity to brew forever, but instead on GW’s poor coaching jobs in recent years.

    I still can’t forgive their fans for littering our field with Oranges. I was there, and it wasn’t a pretty sight.

    The sad thing is that Maryland has owned us in football and basketball for far too many years. I will celebrate our next beatdown of them the same as if it was Carolina. In fact UNC = Maryland in my eyes.

    The timing of Coach Yow’s comments might have been questioned; but like the infamous letter, they were both released when the most people were paying attention.

    I fully support DY and Coach G. ‘Bout time we had some people in charge that won’t take any sh#t. Time to rise from the ashes Wolfpack! Its been a long time, but I believe we are on the right track now.

    No, they said they were aware of Debbie’s comments. It was at a freaking press conference and reported on every major sports news website imaginable, so I’d hope they would be aware of it…unlike the shenanigans of UNC football, to which they are apparently still blissfully unaware.

    Just a comment from an outsider. First of all it is in everyone’s interest in the ACC that State have a good basketball program. Having just Duke and UNC having a great team every year means at some point the ACC will not be the ACC that we know. Also, forget about Gary Williams. If you look at the coach that Wake hired Gary Williams seems like John Wooden. The comments that your AD made about Coach Williams was out of line. Here you have just hired a new coach and in front of him your AD states that Gary Williams caused all of the problems with the hiring process. For a person that has years of experience she sounded like Bobby Knight talking to the media for the very first time. NC State is an excellent school and now has a good coach. I wish Wake would have hired someone as capable as Mark Gottfried.

    I’m glad for State fans that MG knows DY from way back. She will have to be on her best behavior with Mark. I feel bad for O’Brien and any other coaches that did not “know her” previously. Anyone in the Athletic Dept. will have some stories to tell when Deb retires in 4 years!
