Debbie speaks

Dear Wolfpack Family,

I am writing to share with you the status of the search for our new head coach for men’s basketball. There have been telephone conversations with successful coaches that did not develop into meetings — sometimes because we did not wish to pursue those coaches further and sometimes because the coach involved is happy where he is.

The conversations have been candid. We have not tried to sugarcoat the challenge of rebuilding our basketball program. Our absence for 5 consecutive years from the NCAA Tournament was noted by each coach as evidence that the program is in poor shape and will require a special effort to rebuild.

Finding a coach with the fight and fire to do this job has been a challenge. That said, we will find an excellent college coach who shares the vision of what State Basketball can become and is up for the challenge.

I realize there are multiple rumors surfacing about the nature of the search on websites and in newspapers. Once our new coach is hired, I will be in a position to bring perspective to a number of those rumors. But, right now, we need to remain focused on finding a talented collegiate coach who is a fighter, full of confidence and appreciation for the opportunity to lead our basketball program back to national prominence.

That will happen in spite of those who believe this cannot occur.

Wolfpack Basketball is destined for a revival. We will accept no less. Please keep the faith while we continue the search. Your emails and text messages of support have meant everything to me. I am blessed to be your AD.

In the Spirit of the Pack,
Debbie

It rarely happens, but it feels good to be right.

Yow is a crackhead! The last thing this school needs is a 60 year old Billy Jean King to tell us we suck!
    Pack your bags Granny!

Well run coaching searches last 7-10 days. Why did Yow waist a week between Lowe’s last game and letting him go? Many discussion could of taken place before the NCAA’s started.

Then she waits for Smart, you can argue either way if that was a good or bad choice, but then she low-balls him.

Some may say $2 mil for Smart isn’t low-ball, but if he is your choice and you have said money isn’t an object you can’t offer .75 million more than the current mid-major school.

Any BCS school would offer Shaka the same amount. If she wanted Smart after 4 weeks, the offer should of been huge. “Shaka is our man, we want to win and have made the investment, blah, blah…”

If she didn’t want to pay Smart what it took, she should of hired GM on Sunday morning.

@highstick, I think she would have been better of had she used your verbiage rather than her own. She’d be better thought of around here at the very least.

We are being treated as if we are on probation, but in reality the team that is on probation won the NCAA championship last night. The inmates are definitely running the asylum.

Do lesbians frighten you? Or is it all women?

DY, the female version of LF. I have been saying this the whole time.

    1. She never hired a men’s BB coach at a big school
    2. She was good with the books at Maryland, that does not make her a talent evaluator.
    3. If she was such a great AD, she would have been at Florida, Texas, Etc. years ago.

I said it once, I will say it again. State fans fell for her simply because her name was not Lee Fowler.

Forget Smart on the 15th of March when Sid was let go Pete Strickland had a better shot at the job than Smart did.
DY had no idea who Smart was and if she or anyone else did, they would have known that VCU was Anthony Grant’s team! We should have gotten him 2 yrs ago when he was availible.

Until Debbie Yow lands us another Sidney Lowe, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and everyone just needs to pass their verdict, once the coach is hired. As previously stated, we need a coach with the heart and desire to put our basketball program back in the spotlight, and nothing less, regardless of their name.

State fans had no choice but to fall for her. Yow was apparently selected by a Woodson “Executive Order” overruling the committee’s selections.

If you will remember, most people were horrified at the announcement. Maryland fans rejoiced. A couple of “Wolfpack Unlimited” speeches later, in a fire engine red pant-suit got some juices flowing and the initial disgust faded.

For State’s sake I sure hope the two clowns salvage this somehow, but they have already bought NC State several million in horrible press over the last 3 weeks and I see no evidence this is about to change.

If you want “heart and desire” call Lowe back. He had more heart and desire than anyone we will hire. Me on the other hand would rather have someone that knows the difference in x’s and o’s.

Right on again Highstick. I take this as Debbie is not willing to settle for someone who doesn’t have the fire and vision to accomplish the goal set forth.

I’ve been pretty optimistic throughout this search, but that ended when I got that e-mail last night. It reminds me of some idiotic letters I sent to girls when I was a kid. Sounded good when I wrote them, but in hindsight I always wished I had them back. This letter is a PR disaster.

No idea now who we can get at this point. Yesterday it looked like Missouri got stuck with the laugher in Frank Haith. We might wish we were so lucky when this is all over. I’m not giving up hope yet, but there’s not nearly so much as there was 24 hours ago.

The letter blows and makes me wonder but I will at least see who she hires before comparing her to jed.

Well I ain’t as bad as all that. I am not jumping to conclusion until the conclusion. Then I will wait and see for 5 years. Then if at that point we have not had any success, then maybe I will just might admit AD Yow screwed up. So sit back boys and enjoy the ride. Five years is not that long.

With 9% unemployment across the country I’m sure someone will take this 1 MM + job. But we best hurry because McDonalds is planning to hire 50, 000 folks soon.

How about hiring Hurley the great High School Coach

  19. nav 04/05/2011 at 7:51 AM #

Did anyone else wake up this morning hoping that this letter was a bad dream?
PS. Gumby if you don’t won’t to hear the complaining don’t read these boards until the search is over. People have to vent and these boards are one of the only safe, reasonable ways of doing that. You of all people should know that State fans have 20+ years of fustration and disappointment bottled up. Let the people bitch. For all the misory that being a State fan brings, the fans at least deserve that much.

  20. tcthdi-tgsf-twhwtnc 04/05/2011 at 7:58 AM #

This letter also manages to slap the current players in the face. “Those losers haven’t made the tournament so what coach would want to come here.”

Did anyone read this email before it was sent? Did the committee approve it? Chancellor Woodson needs to be answering question today, if not in public to the BOT. This is irresponsible and damaging the university.

Apparently she has gone mad and may need to find a secluded lake to get some rest and maintain a proper diet.

” You of all people should know that State fans have 20+ years of fustration and disappointment bottled up. ”

I must disagree. Not about the 20+ years of frustration, that’s very true. Just about the bottled up part.

State fans don’t keep anything bottled up for very long.

“State fans don’t keep anything bottled up for very long.”

    That’s probably true

Nav, you ever worry that all of our”bitchin” is used against us? Think Greg Marshall’s AD might have read some of the comments to the coach to help pursuade him to sign an extension?

Somehow we have got to hold our coaches and AD’s accountable without building the reputaion as impossible to please fans.

  24. IamGumbyDammit 04/05/2011 at 8:04 AM #

Has it occured to anyone that the incessant bitching only servces to feed the trolls (Davis, Goodman, Parrish et al) and further reinforce the perception of State fans as unrealistic and unsatisfiable? Welcome to self-fulfilling prophesy 101. Imagine a prospective candidate considering the job and reading this thread. It adds NO value and does NOTHING to help the cause to get on here and whine when no coach has been named yet. Man up!

  25. Statefan1998 04/05/2011 at 8:06 AM #

Afraid, do you really think AD’s are reading this board? Really?
