How Good (Bad) Is The N.C. State Hoops Job?

Must read from Al Featherston.

Parrish repeated the same glorification of Sendek, although he didn’t make the Patrick mistake of claiming he was fired. Instead, he wrote: “N.C. State fans were so tough on Sendek after five straight NCAA Tournaments that he decided to walk away and escape a scenario where he would very clearly never win enough to please the majority.”

If that makes State the worst high-paying job in the country, where does Boston College rank?

Al Skinner recently led the Eagles to seven NCAA Tournaments in 10 years (better than Sendek’s five in 10 years). Skinner produced four ranked teams to one for Sendek. He had a .600 winning percentage to .591 for Sendek. He had a .500 ACC winning percentage to .450 for Sendek. An argument actually could be made that Skinner was the best basketball coach in BC history, and nobody ever will advance that idea when it comes to Sendek and NCSU.

Yet Skinner was fired, while Sendek decided to leave, mainly because he wasn’t appreciated enough by the school’s fan base.

Let me ask you this: it was pretty clear a few weeks ago that Sid was going. It’s assumed that DY has been sending out feelers through an intermediary. What are the chances that prospective coaches were doing the same thing – sending feelers out to DY? All off the record, through a third-party, etc.

..this is a good article.. it hits all the points rather than picking and choosing statistics for slandering this and that. my response to anything sendekian.. if you like him so much, why not pony up and hire him yourself.

when k and roy do step down, we should be poised to take over the conference if not already having done so!! i see coach k sticking it out longer than hole roy, considering that’s his baby versus roy is merely cherry picking something he couldn’t build on his own!! but we don’t hear anything about that little concept!!

    PACK!

NCSU is a tough job because we (fans) want to compete with unc/duke year-in year-out & that means a top10 team every season. That’s tough.

It should help that we now have a good AD who doesn’t imply that our fans are being unreasonable.

Oh well, all we can do is pray that we land a big fish or win the big one so that Parrish has to shut down his twitter account.

coaching in the acc is tough period. there are some really different styles of play. unc is athletic and up tempo. duke is disciplined and smart. some of the newer coaches seam to be pretty tough and have great defense. it’s a tough league.

i would go further to say we want to win the acc and not make it primarily about duke or unc. they have been taking care of business but that’s no reason why we aren’t legitimately at the top of the league each year instead of hoping to finish third! legitimately being at the top of the league also means that we are really good nationally.

come on now, let’s not start thinking that yesterday was some high point and now we deflate. this is only the beginning…

+1 to Roch…it’s as good as you make it.
heck, Gonzaga is better known than us, now.
and the KNOWING has to be with someone who is 15 years old.
year 19xx don’t count. the line i like best is the one i heard
last year from a 17-year-old: do you still use old-timey email?

very true john of sparta.. there isn’t much to draw upon with these young recruits with our history.. until they get here in some cases. with the georgia boys on the roster that keep an open pipeline to that area… i still don’t think recruiting should be a problem. sendek did not recruit imo. his personality sucks and didn’t win..
