Numerous sources have confirmed that Gary Wichard, the agent at the center of the UNC football scandal, has passed away.

Wichard founded his professional agency, Pro Tect Management, in 1980; in the subsequent three decades he represented dozens of top-level NFL stars, including Dwight Freeney and Brian Bosworth.

He fell under scrutiny, however, for his close relationships with college coaches—including John Blake, the UNC assistant who allegedly worked as Wichard’s “runner,” funneling players to Pro Tect Management before they were allowed to deal with agencies at all.

Wichard had been suffering from health problems for months, anda spokesperson from Pro Tect confirmed that he passed away on Friday. WCHL will update this story with additional information as it becomes available.

“You truly cannot believe UNC had something to do with his death? That is just unsightly, unclassy, and unacceptable.”

Probably not. I admit that. I think most of us here are being somewhat sarcastic/satiric/comedic with this.

But to me the REAL question is….if given the chance, WOULD they give him cancer if they COULD. I think yes, therefore that makes them just as guilty (in my mind). It’s a simple transitive property. (/end insane rant)

As far as being unsightly, unclassy and unacceptable….I can’t speak for anyone else here, but for me personally that ship sailed quite a while ago and I won’t waste anymore time worrying about it now.

Otherwise, I’m with PM above. Hopefully some of you p#$$ies will extend our best wishes while you’re at his wake.

    Pack Mentality,

You have to be kidding me. What has he done to cause such hatred for the man. Give UNC-CH football players illegal benefits?

    Wuf,

Are you calling me a pu$$y for caring about a dead man’s family?

I can be a fan and care about a man’s family. He has done nothing personally to hurt anyone from State. If anything, he has only hurt UNC fans.

I cannot believe you are suggesting UNC would give him cancer. We may hate UNC, but that does not make them terrible people. To suggest that a rival in sport would give someone cancer is so out of place it is amazing to me. You are giving State fans bad name and I hate it. State fan stereotype is that they hate UNC more than they like State, and its people like you that lead to that.

Lets show our love for the Pack while being respectful to other schools.

    “God is a Tarheel fan…”

Actually I would have to say that you should be looking at the other end of the biblical spectrum for who the real Heel booster is…could it be Satan? After all who has the power to rid the school of pesky agents who might sing, cover up violations going back to caveman days in the ACC, and allow a certain former football player to get away with murder literally (we are looking at you Mr. Fenner). No I am sorry but I believe that Satan and his boy little Damien like to put on their light blue Wal-Mart unx gear every weekend and root for the team after their own hearts while cursing other schools with overrated coaches and recriuts who never live up to their potential. So I say to my fellow Pack bretheren we must pull together and do the unthinkable…we must have an exorcism of the evil, renegade program and remember the prayer of exorcism: Oh mighty school of cheaters, the power of the the prayer of lack of intitutional control is now upon you, be gone with your evil ways, lest the NCAA smite thee with their mighty smiter. Amen.

    “Wuf,
Are you calling me a pu$$y for caring about a dead man’s family?”

I don’t believe I called you anything, but feel free to fake some (more) outrage and disgust. I don’t need a lecture from you on compassion or how to treat a grieving family. His family isn’t here as far as I know, but when they arrive please feel free to make the announcement.

Wichard was a scum bag. I didn’t do that to him, he did it to himself. Dying of cancer might not be what he deserved, but a lot folks 10x better than him also died of cancer yesterday. Pardon me if I choose not to mourn him, either.

And as I already said, but apparently you chose to ignore, I don’t believe UNC gave him cancer. My common sense and medical education make me quite certain that isn’t possible. It’s a freaking joke, dude. Lighten the hell up already.

Wow, I can’t believe that we have so lost the ability to perceive sarcasm and satire (even when it’s STATED in the posts above that it IS sarcasm) that I actually had to make the statement “I don’t believe UNC gave him cancer”.

But I’m the one giving State fans a bad name. Sheeesh.

All anybody knows about him is that he helped UNC cheat. But you’re feeling compassion for him and his family? Spare me the holier than thou bulls**t.
