ACC Tournament Seeding Scenarios

It is not as though there is a lot of excitement for this year’s ACC Tournament amongst NC State fans – or throughout the conference for that matter.

Nonetheless, ‘caring’ about the ACC Tournament is too deep in our blood to totally ignore it. This blog entry will break down the impact of this weekend’s games.

Let’s be honest, as State fans when was last time we were actually excited about the upcoming ACCT? and our chances?

    It’s been a while for me……

it wasn’t upcoming, but 2007 was the last time I was excited about the ACCT, period. I even went to the 2008 first round game against Miami and watched us get torn apart by pettiness and bad attitudes. Would love to have a reason to be excited for the ACCT again…next year?

Not excited about the ACCT and not excited, despite the best efforts of the local media, the national media, and my wife, for the UNC-CHeat/Dook game. Hello baseball!

All I know is Brad Brownell is one hell of a young basketball coach. We could have had him, but instead, it’s the Tigers that look like they are going dancing. What a great hire for Clemson (as they are currently destroying Va Tech).

Most NC State fans I know, myself included are ready for this season to end so we can get on with finding out who our new coach will be. I am hopeful that Debbie Yow hits it out of the park on this hire. We have nowhere to go but up.

In less than a week, Virginia Tech has gone from an absolute lock for the NCAAT to now needing at minimum a win — probably two wins — in the ACCT.

This league is absolute garbage this year and we will get to hear ad nauseum tonite about how the league is always better when UNC and Duke are at the top. Makes me want to vomit as I’m sure it does all the other 10 conference members and their followers. The fact Florida State has to probably win their game with us tomorrow to be a lock for the dance reinforces that.

The funny thing is that all it would take is one win, maybe two in the ACC Tournament to get us all fired up and thinking we could pull off a miracle.

We have to look for someone who actually scares Dook and Hole Fans a bit. I do not think that a Tubby, while a great and respected coach does that. I am not saying that a Capel brother is that guy, but a young coach may be. It pains me to say it but we can not sit on our long past success stories anymore. Let’s be honest, we have not won the Acc tourney since 87, have no finished first in the regular season since 89, oh and by the way we lost in the first round to Maryland, coach had a heart attack. We have to reinvent ourselves on things we are doing in this decade, in this century, and in this millennium GO PACK

  11. Wulfpack 03/05/2011 at 5:39 PM #

The ACC is a jumbled mess. Clemson beats VT and Virginia tops Maryland today. I have no idea who is in and who is out. A lot will be decided this weekend.

I know what I am about to say is horrible but if you look at the brackets for the ACCT you see that we will be either 10th or 9th. GT and Wake have a lock on the 11th and 12th spots. That means if we win the first round in the ACCT we face either those sons of bitches from Chapel Hell or the DOOKIES. In playing either of those team we will be humiliated. I can’t stomach one more crushing 30 plus point loss, especially to the Tarholes (sons of bitches)

Looking at who they’ve beaten & lost to, I’d say Clemson and VA Tech BOTH have more work to do. Getting hammered at home by BC and then losing to Clemson may have pushed VA Tech off the bubble in spite of the win over Duke. Other than that, I don’t think either team beat anyone of significance other than FSU, and both had some poor losses. If FSU loses to us, that might damage their chances too – could the school which years ago made the dance at 6-10 fail to make it this year at 10-6? What a heartbreaking loss to UNC the other night for the ‘Noles!

  14. JSRy2k 03/05/2011 at 7:11 PM #

@StateFans – Miracle? How? We’re locked in at #10 or #9 (since we win #11 tiebreaker w/ win over GA Tech), so the second ACCT win would have to be over Duke or UNC. Do we have a prayer vs. either of them?

    N.C. STATE (5-10 ACC)

    * The Wolfpack will be the No. 8 seed with a win AND a Miami loss AND a Virginia loss AND a Virginia Tech loss
    * The Wolfpack will be the No. 9 seed with a win AND a Miami loss AND a Virginia loss AND a Virginia Tech win
    * The Wolfpack will be the No. 9 seed with a win AND a Miami loss AND a Virginia win
    * The Wolfpack will be the No. 10 seed with a loss OR a Miami win

    not a prayer

  16. Wulfpack 03/05/2011 at 7:23 PM #

No prayer against Duke or UNC, so our road ends Friday.

Clemson and FSU are each on firm footing. I’d say VT and BC each have some work to do. Maryland is on the outside looking in.

I think Clemson can do some real damage in the tourney with their solid defense.

    We are 9 or 10.

    Is it over yet?????????????

ACC Basketball is so BORING! I don’t watch or care anymore. The ACC has sunk to a two team league and I am sick of hearing about either one. The sooner they both lose in the NCAA the better. At least college baseball is back and MLB is about to start to put some life in a completely lackluster time of year.

  20. NCSU84 03/05/2011 at 10:35 PM #

Did we even make the ACC tournament this year?

  21. john of sparta 03/05/2011 at 10:55 PM #

what is old is new again…college basketball equals baseball.
any player good enough is a pro. just like in baseball.
get used to it. one and done? how about NONE?

  22. Wolfy__79 03/06/2011 at 12:35 AM #

^^yeap, it is boring and will be boring until we are good again.. well atleast in our league! it is such a two team league.. for the last decade or more. this year all but the blew boys are chokaholics so far. can’t wait for them to choke it up! i do find it halirious that unx stormed the floor against duke.. and the immediate response from seth davis was pretty funny making fun of unx doing so!! ..they very well may be ripe for the picking now.. i can see one and done for the tarbates this coming weekend and the next!

So excited about the upcoming ACC tournament, and looking forward to another ACC tournament championship! Oooops! Just woke up, not gonna happen, but it was a nice dream.

Has anyone ever seen a team cut down the nets for winning a regular season title? All the regular season title means that, they have the #1 seed in the tournament. It doesn’t guarantee any thing in the NCAA. The winner of the tournament gets the automatic bid.

In past years (all the way back to 1967) I was keenly interested in matchups. This year I really don’t care. Yes I will watch the games but a lot of the fire has been extinguished over the last 20 years.
