2011 ACC Tournament Set

The 2010-2011 ACC Tournament pairings are set, and things couldn’t have lined themselves any worse for the NC State. If the Wolfpack were to pull some kind of miracle, we would have to do it by driving a truck right through a projected line-up of programs against which we have failed miserably since de-emphasizing basketball twenty years ago – starting with Maryland on Thursday night and followed by Duke on Friday. (In the last five years, Sidney Lowe has not beaten Gary Williams and has only defeated Coach K twice).

The 4 worst matchups we could ask for.

On the bright side, the new coaching search can start all the sooner.

Lowe was great for this school as a player and as a recruiter, but I think most everybody is ready.

    “Has not beaten Gary Williams…”

That right there should say it all about the STATE of affairs with Wolfpack basketball.

So who are yall taking in this thing? Obviously, Duke gets up for it. I think they are vulnerable, but K will have them ready. UNC is playing excellent ball and has been a different team with Marshall running the show. I also like Clemson’s chances to put forth a good showing and solidify their tourney standing.

I hope we can at least give Maryland a game. If we lose, I seriously doubt this team plays on.

trying to be positive, at least we got the national tv game

I would imagine Jordan Williams will effectively kill any hope of us making this a game. We have two of our three “effective” big guys who can’t get more than 6 inches off the ground when they jump (Smith, Howell). And CJL doesn’t give a sh*t anymore, so I see us going out with a whimper…

I predict we’re one and done. And that would be the most merciful outcome, to put this season out of it’s misery.

BC vs. Clemson would be a good match up and is likely.

Duke vs. Florida State or VT would be a good match up.

phew what a year. i attended the game last night to support the players and sidney one more time! there was such a huge disconnect that has been building for a few games now. i’m glad they were able to not completely fall apart to this point.

i think the maryland matchup is a tuff one for us and if beaten, for duke! they will have alot of intensity thursday night. it’s almost impossible for our players not to stay down with the current situation. as dejected as the unit is right now, i do feel that they will need alot of breaks to get back into the spirit to believe they can win.

unc is the hottest team! i cannot believe that they are where they are right now after falling off the map early in the season. their team defense will be what could win this tourney for them. they also are ripe for the picking and don’t have the easiest of routes to the title game. if they make it to the finals i don’t see them losing. so if there’s upset on friday… look for the holes to win another title. … and using that math, they will be very dangerous in the ncaas.

before yesterday, i thought fsu was going to be a dangerous team. but i witnessed our depressed level of play infect their play yesterday. if they play tough come friday, i see them in a head to head dog fight with duke possibly on the way to the title game. bc, miami and cousin clem are going to be very tough early outs.. should be interesting for them.

hopefully our guys can dig deep and play for forty minutes. tracy has all but given up, but i could see javi and cjw providing some fire to make a game of it.

my starting lineup thursday would be:

javi, brown, wood, cjw, howell/vandenburg… they will have the most energy.

leslie hasn’t given up.. he still hustles.. just doesn’t know what to do! however, tracy appears that he has and needs to come off the bench game one!

^ I couldn’t see sid benching him for his last game in a wolfpack uniform

  11. tractor57 03/07/2011 at 11:21 AM #

Sad to say I really don’t care.

I’ll watch the games as I have either watched or listened since I was a kid.

Time for a real change in on court performance.

Depressing to see Clemson taking Thursday off again while we’re not.

  13. Wolfy__79 03/07/2011 at 11:51 AM #

^ no kidding. despite the depressing immediate circumstances.. there are alot of things to happy about… we’ll certainly be moving on with a planned search. sidney will be able to get back something that fits him better.

  14. blackdom 03/07/2011 at 12:03 PM #

Can we get off this good recruiter myth about Sid. JJ and CJL had talent no question, but part of recruiting is getting players that will fit in. He never did bring a big man,and honestly it took 5 yrs to get a point guard and to be honest the jury is still out on him.

  15. MP 03/07/2011 at 1:29 PM #

Gotta give a player something to fit in to, before he can fit in.

  16. PoppaJohn 03/07/2011 at 2:04 PM #

Don’t know if the problem is trainin’ or listenin’ but CJL looked pitiful on defense last night. After the game, both the radio coverage guys and Sid talked about how “certain starters” weren’t playing defense the way they should. I really hope somebody he’ll listen to with some smarts will tell him there’s no way he’s ready for the NBA. He doesn’t play defense, he only has an okay jumper, he’s too skinny, a lousy free throw shooter … gotta believe being an outstanding dunker isn’t enough.

Perhaps it was my imagination, but I believe some people booed Sid when he was introduced.

Tracy is done. He was moving gingerly and couldn’t do anything around the basket. He wasn’t running. You could see he was dejected.

I guess I can’t blame anyone if they chose to skip last night’s game, but I can’t recall seeing the student section so empty.

If there is one Pack fan that has not seen the light and realizes that Sid’s not the right guy, I would be astounded. With Herb, I could see there being some debate … but there is nothing to debate now.

The game is at 7 PM…which is good. I won’t have to take abuse while at work.

Maybe we did give up against FSU. That doesn’t mean we’ve quit for the season. That wasn’t a tournament game. It really had no bearing on anything. And I think we did try in that game. We fell behind and scrapped our way back in it, and then FSU made the plays down the stretch.

I expect we’ll come out fired up against Maryland. Our entire season wasn’t on the line against FSU. Now it is.

  20. 61Packer 03/07/2011 at 7:19 PM #

I think Maryland is a good draw for State because Maryland isn’t playing worth a crap right now. And Duke, right now, can be had. After that, I don’t know, but I do know that this bracket is easier for us than having to face UNC again.

We didn’t get the “national” game. I think the entire tourney is on ESPN’s network of stations, but here every game is being carried by Raycom except ours, because the Raycom affiliates don’t want to give up their precious 7-8pm local programming hour. And in my opinion, the 7 to 8pm local programming is just as bad as our team- awful.

bradley123 Season on the line? Seasons been over! We folded up like a tent against fsu and they were without singleton.

  22. bradleyb123 03/08/2011 at 9:55 AM #

^^ The season is over. The postseason is about to begin. We’re 0-0 in the postseason, so yes. The entire season is on the line now, and nothing was on the line against FSU except pride. All I’m saying is if someone thinks we folded against FSU, that doesn’t mean we’re going to come out flat and fold against Maryland. Sid has done reasonably well in the ACC tournament, compared to during the season. And I think by now these players know Sid is gone after the season, and they want to win for him.

    We shall see.

With Tracy as immobile as he is now, and Howell not having any vertical leap to begin with, Jordan Williams will have a career day against us (imagine that – an opponent having a career day against State), Stoglin will eat our guards alive again, and the Pack whimpers back to Raleigh after an 18 point tail-whippin’.
