Hope to Walk Golf Classic

Thanks to the heads-up on our forums from TNPackFan:

Many of you are probably aware of the car accident two years ago that left former Wolfpack basketball player Brian Keeter paralyzed from the waist down.

Brian is now involved in intensive spinal cord injury recovery therapy. Brian’s progress has been very exciting. He has regained function in all of his abdominal and glut muscles and a significant portion of his hip flexors. Brian’s therapists have documented motor nerve contractions in his thighs and in his right angle. Though currently too weak to allow for movement of his legs or feet, these weak contractions do mean that nerves are crossing the injured area, regenerating, and reconnecting. However, therapy costs are extremely expensive, and are not covered by insurance. Brian relies on contributions to continue his fight to walk.

Last spring, the first Hope To Walk Classic to benefit Brian Keeter was held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, and it was a huge success.

The 2nd Hope To Walk Classic will be held May 16. Anyone is welcome to participate. There will also be a sports memorabilia auction to benefit Brian. For information about registration, click on this link.

If you can’t make it to the Golf Classic, or you’re not a golfer, you can still help Brian by contributing through the National Transplant Assistance Fund.

Thanks so much for putting this on the blog! I am sure those costs are astronomical for Brian, and it’s great that the university has stepped to the plate.

I organize a tennis group in the Triangle (350 members), and I will try to get a team together and see how many are willing to donate. If Brian reads this blog, we wish you strength and success in your recovery.

I played in this last year. It was very well run and a lot of fun. Lots of Keeter’s old teammates were there, along with several people from the NCSU athletic department. Hodge, Evtimov, Cornelius Williams, Will Roach, along with Purcell, Coach Harper, Coach Towe, and Coach Harris all were there at some point. Of the players, only Roach teed it up.

I would highly recommend playing. They have a silent auction with some really cool stuff.
