Georgia Tech Open Entry / NC State 79 Ga Tech 74

Would be very nice to get a home win today as two out-going coaches do battle.

NC State now has five ACC wins for the season with two games remaining on the schedule. It isn’t what we hoped for when the season kicked off under the mantra of “The Stage is Set”…but, it isn’t the absolute unmitigated disaster it was looking to be the night of the Wisconsin debacle.

Scott Wood’s 20 points helped N.C. State to a 79-74 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday at the RBC Center.
Coming off disappointing losses to Maryland and North Carolina, the Pack got its fifth ACC win of the season but the Yellow Jackets made them earn it.

Every time State (15-13, 5-9 ACC) got hot and stretched out the lead, Georgia Tech answered back. It wasn’t until Wood’s steal and layup with 1:51 left that the Pack could breathe easy.

Tracy Smith added a free throw with 51.9 left to ensure the win, State’s 12th in 13 home games against the Jackets. GT (11-17, 3-11) remains winless on the road this season (0-10) despite 21 points from Iman Shumpert.

State led by 10, 11, 12 and nine at different points in the game but couldn’t put away the Jackets. Shumpert had 15 points in the first 24 minutes then went more than 8 minutes without a field goal attempt and almost 13 minutes between field goals.

State got Smith loose in the post against an over-matched Daniel Miller. Lorenzo Brown added 13 for the Pack.

Brown came out firing for State with three 3s in the first 4 minutes. He hadn’t made more than one 3 in a game this season since the opener on Nov. 12.

Am I really the first post? Either we’re apathetic at this point or at the game. Off to a slow start once again.

Some of us are here, just not much to say yet. Although I have to admit, seeing Vandenburg dunk like that makes me smile despite myself 🙂

Vandy’s not going to be an offensive dynamo. But I like his D and intimidation factor.

The team is killing GT on the boards. Good to see.

C.J. Leslie takes more ill advised shots than any Wolfpack player that I can remember. Does Sydney just allow him to do as he pleases?

If we would just learn to kick out to Scott Wood when 3 or 4 defenders crash in on him, he’d be our team assist leader.

    Anybody have a link?

This 2nd half is starting to turn ugly…all too familiar.

Very disturbing crowd (or lack thereof) at RBC today.

Can’t really blame anyone…nice day outside.

    It’s official:

If they lose today at home to Tech I refuse to watch another NCSU game until next season (or until a coaching change)…whichever comes first.

Wow, can’t believe how dead it is around here. I know apathy has taken its toll but I didn’t think it was this bad.

For anyone monitoring the thread for scores, Pack currently up by 9 63-54 with about 7 1/2 left.

NCSU has a lot of talent, but we make ever classic mistake that a team can make to lose games. We are much worse than our talent level.

CJL is having a rough game. His worst in a long time.

GT within 3 (73-70) with under a minute.

Pack hangs on to win 79-74

Man – it is nice having two 90% FT guys who can handle the ball.

Glad we didn’t collapse that one away.

We beat another 3rd rate coach without thier best player

  19. chriscgray 02/26/2011 at 4:55 PM #

Good to see us finish out the game. I thought this was a mediocre performance that was good enough to win. Not sure this could have beaten the top teams in our conference. However there has been improvement. Lets get better for the acc tourney.

    GO PACK!!!

MT, Iman Shumpert is their best player…and he lit us up for over 20 tonight…

“We beat another 3rd rate coach without thier best player”
    ===================================================
    LOL
this was someone’s first time watching Tech play this year (apparently).
Shumpert leads them in pts, asst, and rebs… but he’s NOT their best player???

    WOW!
State did EXACTLY what they were supposed to do today… took care of business.

Did anyone else notice, each time Javi came in, the lead would evaporate?

  23. BJD95 02/26/2011 at 5:36 PM #

At this point, we are virtually assured of being seeded between 8 and 10 (us, Miami, and UVA). Which means a Friday date with one of the blues, assuming a Thursday win. Pretty natural way for the Lowe farewell tour to end, eh?

Glad we didn’t lose at home to a team that UVA swept. That would have really been embarrassing.

Could SOMEONE please reveal what’s happened to Painter???
Didn’t play against Holes—no mention by anyone that I remember on the telecast….nothing in the paper next day. Now a no-show against GT, and again NO MENTION…..is there a secret I’m just not in the loop about??

    Someone please enlighten me…..

I still think Lowe stays if he can he the next two games and win one round of the ACC Tourney and win a few rounds at the NIT. Every game he wins is a few more nails out of his coffin.
