UNC compliance promotion doesn’t make sense

Full column from Brett Friedlander:

It would seem to me that bringing in someone from the outside to fix a compliance system that clearly failed might have been a more appropriate solution than promoting someone from within.

But at least UNC is consistent.

Promoting the person in charge of athletic compliance under such circumstances ranks right up there with letting Butch Davis continue coaching the football team even after his blind eye helped create a culture in which NCAA rules were blatantly ignored by his best players and most trusted staff members.

It’s called a lack of institutional control. Apparently though, UNC still doesn’t get it.

…and I would be utterly shocked if the NCAA doesn’t see it as well. Anyone saying Carolina will get off scott-free is insane.

^The spin coming from UNC is that the NCAA praised this person’s work and said they were one of the best compliance officers they have ever worked with.

Pretty funny that they promote Amy Herman while Thorpe is out talking about “protecting academics.” http://www.wral.com/news/education/story/9008341/

This makes perfect sense, because it serves to solidify their position that they’ve had everything under control all along.

I don’t get this. They have the #5 running back in the nation considering them. Why would the #5 RB choose Carolina, which is NOT a football power, nor is it a perennial football school, over the other power schools on his list? It makes even less sense when you consider Carolina will likely be served up some hefty NCAA sanctions soon.

Something still stinks here. Are they paying their players and recruits or what???

And they’re sticking with Butch (at least for now).

The whole thing is like an episode of Twilight Zone.

That is the very take I had when I read that this morning. The word PERFECT actually came off the tongue.

Why is it shocking that the one person who probably knows where most of the dirt and bodies are buried would be looked after and given more money to make them happy?

I’m of the opinion that Dear Amy was promoted to be promptly thrown under the bus by the Three Stooges as soon as the sanctions fall. They will blame her, fire her, and deflect all criticism from themselves. Typical UNC MO.

Or perhaps Dear Amy started mentioning little cracks about Roiz Boiz and their ‘compliance’…

    Makes sense to me. Consistent.

Compliance has obviously been a more than moderate failure during her tenure, so this is promotion sets her up to be they fallguy or is hush money.

To answer that question, you would have to be around at night when the envelops are slipped under the doors.

Before their behavior at the 2009 game, I was kind of getting over my hatred for UNC. However, since that game – and the subsequent scandal – and the way they’ve tried to spin it – I’ve John Blake himself was named to their Board of Trustees or Governor’s at this rate.

This, among many other things, makes perfect sense for, and is entirely consistent with a cover-up!

I did some more reading yesterday on the Auburn/Newton issue. There’s some really weird stuff their, but I don’t know how valid some of the comments are.

There was some mention of connections back to Black and UNC Agentgate though. Not sure how valid though, but the thread that I posted earlier is almost to 1000 pages though.
