Lowe’s Love of Leslie Leads to Loss

State loses 60-50 in LittleJohn Coliseum tonight after a pitiful and embarrassing performance. After leading by 19 points, 31-12, with 6:10 remaining in the first half (and 34-29 at the half), Clemson outscored State 48-19 the rest of the game.

How ugly was it? Well, it was apparently the largest comeback in Clemson’s history.

How did it happen? Well, State had field goal droughts of 4:08, 6:03, 5:30 and then watched as Clemson ended the game on a 17-2 run over the final 7:59, with State’s final points of the game at the 2:20 mark. State had a total of 16 points in the second half, with six of them in the first three minutes of the half off Scott Wood three pointers.

State falls to 2-4 in conference play with a trip to Chapel Hill looming.

It took new Clemson Head Coach, Brad Brownell, all of a half of a year to take the lead over Coach Lowe. I don’t know a soul in college basketball who would/could argue that Clemson has more talent than NC State. So, spotting a team with more talent a 19 point lead equates to a COLOSSAL implosion.

This one is basically the point of no return for the Wolfpack Basketball program under Coach Sidney Lowe. Based on the weakness of our schedule and the lack of quality of our losses, the Wolfpack projects to need to win eight of our last ten regular season games to earn an NCAA Tournament berth. What are the odds of that happening?

16 points in one half. 16. Yeah really one and six

    UN F**KINGLY BELIEVABLE

I still can’t believe it. Wake me up.

This is the type of thing that happens when high school kids hold your team hostage like last year. Of course, we didn’t want fowler performing the search, but you should not give a coach 5 years if his previous 4 are like ours.

    CJ LAZY
Hey Sid, bench the sulker and play Richard Howell. At least Howell tries.

Don’t blame Leslie for the loss, he is just a kid who has alot to learn, but has potential, unfortunately he doesn’t have a coach to help him with that. Stop throwing him under the bus. If he had a quality coach, he would be playing better, as well as the rest of the team. You hire a loser, and he only knows how to produce a loser. Can’t wait til next year!

Go watch a Terry Sanford High School game in Fayetteville if you want to see good fundamentals, stifling defense, unselfish play, rational substitutions and excellent coaching. Bill Boyette is a great coach who develops players. All for $6 per game!!

Pull the trigger Debbie. The only thing being gained each time this team steps on the court is a further degradation of the tradition of NC State basketball. As if we could sink any ‘Lowe-er”. Pathetic.

You guys are being pretty harsh on Lowe’s coaching. How can it be his fault? I mean, according to the N&O:

“Lowe said he told his team to be ready for the Tigers’ run, but it didn’t make any difference. When it happened, the Wolfpack couldn’t hold it off.”

Geez, he told the team to be ready. What more can you expect? He’s just the coach. It’s not his fault their high school or AAU coaches didn’t teach them how to deal with situations like this. In five more years maybe he’ll have some better players who know what to do when he tells them to be ready. Just be patient and we might win one of these someday.

WOW,in the span of 1 week:

Give up a 17 point lead to Miami and get win
Give up a 19 ooint lead to Clemson and loose
The ladies give up 18 point lead to Duke and loose

Ok, be easy on the attacks on the players, if they are not ready they should be learning in practice until “ready for primetime”, if they seem lazy, again that is something that should be handled with the coach. It takes some freshmen longer than others to be ready and those issues should be handled by teaching, good practices and rewarded with playing time at the correct time. Guess what? It is all about coaching or the lack of it.

Come on Debbie…we’re waiting…we don’t need til the end of the season…come on Debbie.

BRING BACK HERB! Just kidding. My attempt at levity is the only thing holding back the tears.

I no longer want Sidney to finish out the season. I want him fired today. We have too much talent on the roster to suffer THIS kind of performance.

Goodbye, Sid. Thanks for all you did for us as a player, and thanks for all you’ve TRIED to do as a coach. But you’re not getting it done. I wish you well in all your future endeavors.

Looking on the bright side, at least this decision should be an easy one for Debbie Yow. The only hard part is deciding whether or not to do it NOW, or wait until the end of the season. Personally, I’d like to see Monte Towe get the reigns from now until the end of the season. It might be his one chance to show us what HE can do.

Time to move on. This team looks no different from the last 4 to play for us. Having said that, things like this:

“if we had a COACH out of the 4 losers who draw paychecks on the bench !!!!”

aren’t necessary…some of those ‘losers’ were instrumental in bringing our school national championships. Give them some respect.

But also give them the pink slip at the end of the year.

I should have known CJL was going to have a bad game when he first entered the game and he was immediately guarding the wrong man. Thankfully there was a quick dead ball and (I think) Harrow pointed out who his man was.
You’ve been watching the game from the bench and you come in for the first time and you don’t know who your man is?

If the rest of the season goes like it is now, I don’t think Sidney has much of a chance of being retained. It is really sad to me, much like the Amato situation: a die hard Wolfpacker comes back to be our coach, and it’s evident after a few years he wasn’t the guy for the position.

I wish both could have come back as assistants, so they could be at the school they love, but not have the pressure to be the head coach.

No more internal hires!!! They don’t work.

DY, the decision is growing easier by the game. Please start your list if you haven’t already. Here’s Seth Davis’ recent list of potential COY candidates, there’s some guys on this list that might listen. We’ve got a great fan base, first class facilities, and a nice base of players. There is every reason to think a good coach could be successful year one.

Imagine how lopsided last night’s game would have been if we’d switched coaches! We’d have beaten them by 50!

Lock, thanks for the feedback.I respect YOUR opinions. I will give respect where respect is due. If you want me to respect them as former players and thank them for the glory they brought to Wolfpack basketball, then consider it done…..As far as coaches and teachers and the current state of Wolfpack basketball under Sidney Lowe,Monte Towe, Larry Harris and Pete Strickland………CONSIDER ME DONE !!!!!!

As a person and as an alumni, I love Sidney… But I have to agree with bradleyb, I have always wondered how Monte would do…He has, after all, coached a championship team!

  19. Mike 01/26/2011 at 2:13 PM #

BradleyB and SnowPack – NO NO NO NO NO to Monte. ABSOLUTELY NOT!

In my opinion (take that for what it is worth) Montye is the weakest link on the entire staff of weak links.

  20. Mike 01/26/2011 at 2:14 PM #

I also know how to spell Monte, but my fat finger hit the t and y keys simultaneously.

BradleyB and SnowPack – NO NO NO NO NO to Monte. ABSOLUTELY NOT!

In my opinion (take that for what it is worth) Monte is the weakest link on the entire staff of weak links.

I didn’t suggest that because I thought Monty would be a winner for us, or that he could possibly win his way into a permanent head coaching job. I just think Sidney needs to go, and Monte couldn’t do any worse. Making him an interim head coach would just be a reward for what he did for us as a player. Kind of like Coach Gut replacing Dean Smith like he did. Like a going away present.

I think what I want more than anything is to KNOW (right now) that Sidney won’t be our coach next year. The longer he hangs around, there is always the possibility that he could be here next year, too. But if we make Monte the interim head coach NOW, then that fear is alleviated and I can rest assured that we’re already working on replacing him.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone that thinks Sid has a realistic chance of surviving this season? I mean, it seems like 99.9% of the fans want him gone. But would Debbie Yow possibly keep him? Do any of the big donors want him to remain?

  22. walton 01/27/2011 at 10:46 AM #

It would have been even worse if Clemson hit their shots in the first half. They were mostly wide open. No defense.
