Sidney Lowe scathed in national media

As NC State’s Men’s Basketball team prepares for a HUGE opportunity (without Tracy Smith) tonight at Syracuse (click for preview), the hangover from the unacceptable performance at Wisconsin continues.

During the Wisconsin game, I thought color commentator, Dan Dakich, did an excellent job of pointing out NC State’s lack of heart, effort, defense and structure without being excessively critical or attacking.  (I need to hear more, but I think I really liked what Dakich brought to the commentating booth).  Now, college basketball observers and writers around the country are slowly starting to write honest assessments as opposed to the usual homer stuff.

Indianapolis sports personality and sportswriter, Kent Sterling, pulled no punches in this piece proclaiming “North Carolina State Basketball Thrashed by Wisconsin; Sidney Lowe Owes Me Two Hours!”.

Kent, NC State Basketball owes me TWENTY F***ING YEARS and untold thousands of dollars; so get in the back of the *******  line.

Everything below this point are selected quotes from Sterling that have been abridged to focus on the Wolfpack; so, the delusional NC State homers who can excuse and rationalize anything can go argue with Sterling.  The overall entry is fantastic as it focuses on officiating and ancillary items that go on around a basketball game since NC State didn’t show up to play an actual basketball game.   —————–

Last night, I sat on the baseline, with referee Ted Valentine’s ass an uncomfortable four inches from my face to watch the least passionate basketball performance I have ever seen as North Carolina State was too lazy and indifferent to even roll over for Wisconsin.

The ACC is struggling early, and I’m owed part of my life back.

Watching the Wolfpack last night was a total waste of time for the 17,000-plus in the Kohl Center.  The crowd never got involved because their was never any doubt what was happening.  NC State didn’t even go through the motions of playing defense.  Wisconsin knocked down open shots like they were at a shootaround, and coach Sidney Lowe’s energetic behavior on the sidelines was the closest thing to defending the Badgers that fans saw.

As the minds of NC State’s players obviously wandered, so did mine.

I’m mystified by basketball played with such apathy.  It was impossible to get any kind of gauge on whether Wisconsin is any good.  A guy after the game asked me what I thought of Wisconsin.  I said, “They sure can hit uncontested shots.”

There is a sophomore from Marion, Indiana, on the NC State team who played with some effort, but because seeing any effort was startling, it was impossible to tell how deep he was digging.  To say that NC State played like an AAU team is unfairly damning to AAU basketball.

Getting beat is one thing, but playing 40 minutes like it just doesn’t matter is inexcusable.  Maybe no one in the research Triangle gives a damn about NC State basketball, but if I were a fan, my clock on Sidney Lowe would be ticking regardless of the strength of his recruiting.  Great athletes playing like they don’t care can get beat by 40 just as easily as bad talent giving 100%, but the latter is more fun to watch.

Fans pay good money for tickets, and watching that slop wasn’t worth what I paid for a media credential.

Okay haters, Sid is the worst coach since they hung that first peach basket – let’s get past that …

One thing occurs to me, Sid told us we would see the youth be inconsistent – they’d play well sometimes, and poorly other times. I think that applies to the sophomores as well. If you take away Javi – who’s about as sharp as a marble when it comes to basketball brains – and CJ Williams who really isn’t that good, the whole team is freshmen and sophomores. (till TS returns) There is quite a bit of talent in these two classes but they still need experience.

I hope what we saw tonight was a glimmer of what could be, because TS can fill in some of those scoring droughts. And all of these guys will get better. Syracuse didn’t play poorly, we were in the game because we did some things well – just not enough of them.

I’d really like to see Howell playing a little better. We need quality minutes out of him. He was better last year.

    GO PACK!!!

Playing poorly I can accept. That crap at WI wasn’t playing poorly.

Tonight was better, effort and minus some mistakes a win. One small step of many.

I’m not a “Sid hater” however it is time to put up or shut up.

    @ non sequitur,
“The relatively recent PC feel good trend of hiring an inordinate number of black coaches doesn’t help matters. They tend to be excellent recruiters, but terrible at in-game coaching and development of talent”
    REALLY?
I guess I just found out who was writing all the racist garbage in the free expression tunnel. It was either you or rush limbaugh.
That had to be the most ignorant, and stupidest posting yet.
I’ve often defended NC State to my friends and family by saying I love this university but it’s one of the most racist schools I know. Can’t quite figure out why I love it so much. Especially with people like you have a connection to it.
Are you really that hateful? I mean seriously are you really that full of hate? I’m asking because you stopped talking about sports long enough to spew venom disguised as sports commentary and obviously thought no one would see you hiding in the grass.
Man this feels like bad karma. Maybe this is why WE can’t get into the promised land. We’re always looking but can’t go in because of yokels like you.

Sid is done after this year if we don’t make the tourney. It has nothing to do with race, he is just not a good coach. We should have not lost by 39 to Wisconsin with the talent we have. We blew a lead due to coaching tonight. If we had half the turnovers we would have won handily however we have no gameplan. I have enjoyed carolina struggling early this seasons because it made me feel better about our team. After watching our team pass around the three point line looking confused on every possession it is clear they lack guidance. I have long been skeptical of Sidney Lowe and his lack of coaching abilities but after watching the game tonight that we should have won, I am convinced he should be FIRED!!!

How much is Sid’s buyout? How many years left on his contract? Anyone know???

My gracious, I really can’t believe this head calling rhetoric keeps going on after such a great effort by the Pack tonight. Coaching freshman and sophmores is tough. You gotta give Sidney the whole season’s body of work before you start calling for his head. We are still learning and I saw much improvement. Not to mention Tracy Smith (Who has carried this team for two years) was out of the lineup in these tough tough games this season. We just took a top ten team and historical bball program down to the wire. Please shut up and be reasonable. Yes I was very critical after the Wisconsin game, but the Pack RESPONDED IN THE CORRECT MANNER, even though it was a loss. We will win big games this year, they will just come after we get a little experience on the floor. I think Janurary will show a tough team, especially with Tracy back. Please, lets support Lowe. Cause he did a good job getting the players ready for this game. CJ Leslie played great and yes harrow and brown looked a little confused, but what do you bunch of KOOL-AID drinkers believe these kids would do right out of the gate? Yall will be the same fools singing the praises of this team come acc tournament time. AND I WILL BE SURE TO POINT THIS MESSAGE BOARD BACK TO YOU BUNCH OF DOUBTERS. And yes I know the pain we have all suffered for years with bball and football sucking every year, but I have a strange feeling we will have a little more success than the people here are implying we will have.

Our high-potent offense has produced essentially a 3 pt half in the last two games. A little over 10 min with a goose egg at Wis and 3 pts in over 9 min at the Cuse.

It seemed last night the coaches forgot we had the talent to go uptempo and reverted back to our patented perimeter pass-dribble = desperation to run out the 35 sec clock pretty effectively.
