NCAA joins UNC academic probe

CHAPEL HILL — The NCAA has officially joined the academic portion of UNC’s investigation into possible misconduct.
UNC spokesman Steve Kirschner said an NCAA enforcement representative has been on campus condiucting interviews on the academic matters with UNC for the last two days.
Originally, UNC was conducting the academic portion of the investigation as part of the joint review with the NCAA, but athletics director Dick Baddour had said the NCAA might be brought in more formally at a later date.

No matter how you slice this latest bombshell cannot be good news for UNC. Does this mean that the NCAA is not satisfied with UNC’s own investigation into the academic prong of this scandal?

Is Baddour next after Butch? Can it get any worse in Chapel Hill?

    That ESPN article smells fishy.

I’m not sure you are reading that article correctly. Basically the card that was closed was not the card used for this:
    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news;_ylt=Av8V3lp7_FJvopikHOzkUl45nYcB?slug=ys-uncdocs092910

But was rather a card given to Blake for a specific purpose some time back. The article still does not explain the 3 wires in addition to the loan.
…and remember, this is Blake’s defense attorney. It has nothing to do with the NCAA, it has to do with the SAG and possible criminal charges for breaking state law.

but is that card the one related to Blake?

I think the point is that it was given for a specific purpose and was closed before he arrived at xh. Still it is an admission that they had a relationship.

The BIG thing I think you need to take from this is that now that criminal things could be involved you will see exactly what these men are made of. i.e. they will start pointing fingers and blaming each other for who did what and who knew what and who authorized what and who claimed they didn’t know what etc & so forth.

For all the DTH posters debating whether they are worse than USC, this quote from the Yahoo article referenced above:

“There just aren’t many reasonable defenses a school can make if the runner turns out to be on the university payroll, working out of the university offices, hand in hand with all the other coaches and athletic personnel.

That’s what makes the North Carolina case such a big deal. It has the chance to blow the lid off how agents recruit these budding millionaires and show that college sports isn’t as corrupt the public thinks it is.

    It’s worse.”

Brace yourselves, the $h!t storm is coming.

fan = rotating, oscillating, air mover. ROAM for short. Which is what the feces does when it hits it…ROAM. Me thinks in the ROAMing it has struck BD, DB, and Thorpe. Thorpe is probably the only one who could wash the stench off, but he better do it quickly.

From the days of the Poole Commission investigations…

“THE VERY NATURE OF THESE INVESTIGATIONS DEMANDS CONFIDENCE….
IT’S ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS TO THINK A LAY COMMISSION
LIKE THE POOLE COMMISSION COULD CONDUCT THE KIND OF
INVESTIGATION THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO THE INTEGRITY
OF N.C. STATE UNIVERSITY. IT HAD TO BE DONE BY PROFESSIONALS-
BY A GROUP THAT KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE DOING.”

    -ANDREW VANORE
    DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL

Would be interesting to compare the NCAA professionals final findings and compare it to what UNC’s “Review” would have contained…
