Marvin Austin Suspended Indefinitely; UNC Spin Machine Continues

Hilarious. This is the first mention of “traffic” incidents from a UNC source. These incidents were first discovered on the message boards at Packpride. Not only did Marvin have multiple traffic violations to clear up, he was also past due on taxes for what appeared to be two separate vehicles.

It is mighty convenient that UNC sources are now publicizing the traffic/tax issues when Marvin Austin finally gets suspended by Butch Davis a mere three days before the LSU game. Marvin Austin’s involvement in the program should be very interesting to follow in the future. Based on the following tweet, then I would be surprised to see him in a UNC uniform again, however Marvin obviously loves to talk.

Link.

The senior has been at the center of the NCAA’s investigation into possible improper benefits provided to players by sports agents, but Davis indicated on Wednesday afternoon that Austin’s suspension doesn’t pertain to the findings of that investigation.
“This decision is not a result of the ongoing NCAA review,” Davis said in a prepared press release. “Marvin has violated team rules and has neglected his responsibilities to the team.”

Austin will not play Saturday against LSU in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.

The Washington, D.C. native is also facing seven traffic-related charges, including a misdemeanor noise ordinance violation, in Orange County district court. His court dates are scheduled for Sept. 15 and Oct. 6, according to court records.

BD actually tries to get us to believe that they have rules to violate?

Couple things that are almost certain: The decision to suspend him is a direct result of the ongoing NCAA investigation and Butch Davis is a shady character, at best.

Seriously, what are the odds Davis would suspend him without the ongoing NCAA investigation just 3 days before a huge opening game with LSU?

  5. highstick 09/01/2010 at 3:38 PM #

Marvin knows he’s toast and now there’s no one to do his class work for him…why would he go to class and embarrass himself any more?

  6. coach13 09/01/2010 at 3:42 PM #

Agreed. Any decent program or coach with nothing to hide would have dropped this turd a while back. I guess they ran out of cover stories.

BTW…suspended???…not dismissed, but suspended??? Like they might bring him back for the NCSU matchup? WTF??? Why do they have such an issue with getting rid of the trouble permanently? I wish the NCAA would trash their program completely.

In the last couple weeks, AJones has proven to be the biggest UNC homer on the planet, but today he took the cake.

He initially Tweeted that the suspension of Austin was not realated to the investigation (sorry, REVIEW)–buying the Davis spin hook, line, and sinker. He soon deleted that Tweet I guess when he saw how everyone else reacted with rolly eyes.

    What a goof.

That is a coincidence of epic proportions to have a guy that is the main offender in the agent problems and academic problems that are threatening to take down an entire football program to be suspended for unrelated reasons – just before the first game when likely NCAA sanctions would be announced.

They must really think that everyone (including their own fans) are either so starstruck with them or so dumb that they believe anything they say.

hopefully Marvin will now come clean with NCAA and sink the ship over there.

i also believe this is why he is suspended and not kicked off the team. Butch doesnt want Marvin out there telling all UNX’s dirty little secrets so he told Marvin he “has” to suspend him.. he doesnt want want to, he “has” to. Btuch is still trying to play both sides.

so the Media are now contradicting Butch’s own contention of this not being related to the investigation. if this were not related to the investigation, then a harmless facebook post would be no reason to suspend a player. hell, the only reason they have a facebook policy for MA to be suspended for violating is because of the investigation…

also he wouldnt be skipping class and dogging it in practice if he was going to be playing. MA knows he is done so he has checked out. this IS ENTIRELY RELATED TO THE INVESTIGATION!

one thing begats another Butch, these series of events did not happen in a vacuum and the fact that he is still trying to sell us a bill of goods that is so obviously snake oil is just disingenuous.

the NCAA seriously needs to consider looking more seriously at these coaches

This just gets better and better.

  15. islandbreeze 09/01/2010 at 4:18 PM #

#8, #20 not at practice. Furr might be the starting RB. XD

  16. packbackr04 09/01/2010 at 4:20 PM #

it really is sad for the players. the people who should not be at practice today are Butch and John Blake.

  17. GAWolf 09/01/2010 at 4:34 PM #

^Agreed. That certainly goes for SOME of the players, and even some of the coaches. I feel for the coaches who are there and caught up in this mess who did not actively participate in the nonsense. They’re going to be hurt the most… and as you say the kids who didn’t participate either. There are always innocent victims and for them I do hate it. Hopefully those players who are able will be released to go elsewhere to finish their careers and put this behind them.

  18. Scooter 09/01/2010 at 4:50 PM #

Funny that this stuff comes up when UNC needs a reason to get rid of Marvin Austin that doesn’t include “NCAA” in the description. The big question is how many more of these announcements we will see today or tomorrow.

  19. coach13 09/01/2010 at 4:53 PM #

My ass….anybody “unfortunate” to be tied up in this can come foward with the truth to help speed up the process and get things back on track. Those non-elite tallents know what’s goin on. But NO, everyone wants to hope they can dodge the bullets and save the season. Hell only a couple of Kooks thought this season was gonna be that damn special. Most of us predict an 8-9 win season for them. Thats good but it aint that damn special. NO SYMPATHY HERE. Those unfortunate ones caught up in this can end this crap whenever they get ready. THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE!!!!!

Wes will never play a game for South Carolina again. The scoop is that the other guys involved abused the situation and got too far behind in their rent. Based on what I’ve heard, their suspensions will be 1 or 2 games based on the amount of the rent that they had not paid. I think it’s all been paid back now though. Wes was the worst evidently which compounds his problem.

NCAA wanted suspensions for the first two games for those that got 2 games, but Hyman was able to negotiate for the first game and another to be named by SC..most likely Troy. Obviously they don’t want them suspended for Georgia.

Now, there’s probably more related to Wes..just like Austin with the agents, but I’ve heard nothing on it yet.

Saunders has pissed Spurrier off so bad, I don’t think he’ll see practice or a game wearing Garnet again.

My guess is that Butchy Boy is hoping like hell that if Marvelous Marvin is “suspended” rather than “dismissed” it will at least appear as if he might still have a chance of seeing the field, thus lessening the chances that the NCAA can induce him to start talking with the lure of a baker’s dozen of cupcakes.

Speaking of WFNZ, have you guys seen how the Tarholes are really mad with Packer now? As usual, they eat anyone who doesn’t follow the Carowina Way!
