Torry goes down right when AB is bouncing back

We’ve got some sad news about one of NC State’s most popular athletes of all-time – after signing with the New England Patriots, Torry Holt has been placed on season ending injury reserve due to a knee injury.  Link to ESPN.  Sadly, the injury could also mean the end of Torry’s NFL career.

Veteran wide receiver Torry Holt was placed on injured reserve by the New England Patriots on Sunday, the team announced. Holt has a knee injury and will undergo surgery this week, according to his agent, Kennard McGuire.

"It’s a great disappointment for Torry," McGuire said. "He saw this as a terrific chance to play with another great quarterback and being coached by one of the all-time greats."

There’s a good chance the surgery will mean the end of Holt’s stellar career.

The 34-year-old Holt was entering his 12th NFL season and first in New England after playing for the St. Louis Rams (1999-2008) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2009). He entered the 2010 season ranked 10th in NFL history with 13,382 receiving yards and 11th in receptions with 920.

Holt signed a one-year contract with the Patriots on April 20, the team viewing him as a sound insurance policy for the recovering Wes Welker and the projected development of second-year player Brandon Tate. Since that time, Welker has returned to practice quicker than anticipated and Tate has shown promise.

While the Wolfpack was losing one of favorites in the NFL for this season, another favorite may have re-emerged very strongly from injury.  By clicking here, you can see the New York Post’s feature and commentary on the return of Andre Brown.

Lastly…while we are talking some NFL…the Tennessee Titans have run a very nice feature on NC State’s Leroy Harris that is available here.

Total class act his whole career. If this is the end of the line, my hat is totally off to Torry Holt.

a fantastic guy. I was looking forward to seeing him play with the Pats this year. He’s a great man. This is terrible news. I wish him the best in his recovery.

Don’t count him out just yet. He came back from the broken arm he got from UNC on a cheap shot back in the Mack Brown days. He’s resilient. If he wants to play again, he likely will.

Many thanks to Torry for the way he’s represented NCSU over the years. He had a whole section cheering for him before the game three seasons ago when I visited Texas Stadium for the Cowboys-Rams game.

Torry is going to be just fine whether he ever plays another down or not in the NFL. I was looking forward to seeing him with Tom Brady though.

On a Titan note – anyone else notice Stephen Tulloch tearing it up last night? He was a beast all over the place.

    Awesome news about Andre Brown.

Wow. That’s really sad news. Torry is one of my all time favorites and represented NC State with class in everything that he did (at least that I saw).

Stephen Tulloch was all over the field in the short time I saw him on NFL Network

Really a shame for Torry “Big Play”.
It happens to most of the greats, they limp into retirement.

Never forget watching him torch FSU on Sept 12th, 1998 (have the WPer framed on my wall w/ my ticket stub)
