How Did The Elite UNC Players End Up With The Same Tutor?

I was texting some of these types of questions with some friends last night. Was wondering why nobody was asking how this particular person – Butch Davis’ personal employee – just happened to get assigned to (these particular) football players.

Great post from Steve Williams at PackPride. How did all of the elite athletes end up with the same tutor?

However, one of the more interesting angles for me centers around the group of players mentioned thus far as being involved. If the facts bear out what has been reported to date, it certainly appears that the lion’s share of players involved were major contributors on defense. Why this group in particular? You’ve not heard about five or six guys on the scout team. The vast majority of those mentioned were starters on the defense. Did one guy on defense use the tutor and then pass that info along to help his teammates?

I mean…what are the odds? Why wasn’t she assigned to some of the basketball team?…or was she?

Black Santa: Y’all come back to play and I’ll take care of everything. We want to put UNC-CHeat on the map.

Well done Blake! You really put UNC-CHeat on the map.

Lack of institutional control is now a misnomer.

Apparently, Butch Davis cannot control his own home and his own employees let alone a multi-million dollar sports franchise.

Lack of institutional control now sounds rosy when compared with the transgressions of the Administration next door.

GOD FORBID THEY SELL SOME SHOES THOUGH!

Oh, I have the sneaking suspicion that Davis, or at least part of the “institution”, very much had control what this tutor/nanny was dong for this strangely specific group of players.

The best part about this is when little Dick Baddour said the investigation is just in the beginning stages!

^and what he really means is that they will investigate academic fraud in on every athletic team (except mens basketball).

A wonderful slogan if there ever was one.

Carowhina got Butch-slapped. They hired BMFD to turn UNX football into UMiami football, and damned if he hasn’t done that in 3 short years. Be careful what you wish for.

You think CMFBD wishes he would have taken that Ark or the TN job about now? I smell another failed NFL stint in his future.

Maybe a dumb question, but does self reporting mean that the NCAA never had any suspicion of the violation and only the school knew about it? If so, I’m hearing a lot of speculation that this never would have been reported without the NCAA’s second visit, and from the press conference it was said that it was revealed by a player during an interview. Can anyone offer some clarity?

Another key question is how the President of Delta Sig wound up as the Chancellor of UNC?!?

Actually, seriously, how do the instructors not realize that the papers are written by a girl nanny rather than the football players? What grade did they get? I’d LOVE to see one of these papers that was presumed to be Marvin’s work.

AliasTroll — you have hit the real crux issue — THEY DID NOT self-report!

They want to pretend they did.

The ENTIRE press conference last night as for the sole purpose of trying to position things to look like they are transparent and they are attacking the problem and that they found this.

They did not. They found it BECAUSE the NCAA found it.

Sure hope she never tutored Da’Sheed!

Not sure if anyone has asked this question. Was this tutor assigned to the students as part of the academic support (or whatever its called) of the athletic department? I would assume so, as I was under the impression that almost every part of their “student” lives are micromanaged by the Ath Dept. If so, how in the world was this not caught earlier, and if not, how did the students afford tutoring?

I’ve been out of town and just saw the N&O sports page. Was there a death in BMFD’s family? Something certainly left a bad taste in his mouth.

^ I saw that picture too. Some enterprising lad or lass should photoshop that with the “Indian with tear in his eye” anti-litter ad from the early 80s.

    Please, please, please.

BJD95 – that’s exactly what I told my wife this morning when I saw a similar picture of Butch in our paper today.

I also wonder if that writer at the WS Journal will call this an “investigation” vs. a “review”.

  20. BJD95 08/27/2010 at 2:14 PM #

^ Ha! Great minds think alike.

And to think, our children won’t have that kind of recall thanks to DVDs.
