SFN defends Wolfpack Fans & talks history with Zarzour

We wanted to make everyone aware that Jeff will make an appearance on “The Sports Drive” with Taylor Zarzour on 620AM Thursday morning (July 15th) at 10:00am.

The appearance will be SFN & Jeff’s third of the last three months on Zarzour’s program. The first appearance from May can be reviewed by clicking here.

We were slow to link Jeff’s last appearance on Zarzour’s show, but luckily the conversation hit on some broad topics that are more timeless than time-sensitive conversation that becomes obsolete very quickly. With that said, we’ve linked up some key portions of the June conversation that you will very much enjoy.

(1) On Lee Fowler and Defending NC State Fans:

(2) On Chancellor Woodson and a 20 year leadership void:

(3) On Tom O’Brien and Sidney Lowe’s jobs status:

The real question to ask is if Jeff can top the classic line — “I can’t teach stupid” he threw out during his last appearance? ‘Wufpacker’ summarized his feelings of the last radio appearance as follows on our message forums:

Very well done. And perhaps I heard differently than tobaccordshow, but I didn’t detect anger per se. Perhaps a little bit of exasperation, but who wouldn’t when having to field questions and comment on topics, the (correct) answers to which should not only be pretty much general knowledge by this point, at least in the triangle area, but should also have been left in the past, decades ago.

I mean how many different ways can you tell someone why we, as NC State fans/representatives, are not willing to accept the general consensus opinion in the media that NCSU cannot, and therefore should not strive to, compete with the likes of Duke and UNC.

Frankly, I think Jeff was extremely restrained all things considered.

The media believe in the hirtherto undiscovered force of nature that outlaws any team in NC from ever competing with likes of UNC and Duke. As surely as the speed of light is a constant, they are constant in their droning that such a thing can never, ever happen.

Perhaps some news from FermiLab or CERN escaped my notice, but quite honestly, I don’t believe that such a thing exists any more than I believe Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster exist.

Can it be done in a year or two? Unlikely. UNC and Duke have established and consistent records of excellence and it will take time to match them. But as it is often said, nothing worth doing is easy, and this is worth doing. To accomplish it, however, we will have to stay the course, pay the cost of success and not waver from the goal.

And oh yeah, never let the bastards get us down.

Great job Jeff. It is great having someone on the radio who will actually stick up for NC State. Your logic is 100% spot on.

Kudos Jeff! Nice to hear someone in such a public forum illuminate the absurdity of the notions underlying comments by those who would insist that NC State be happy with being an “also-ran.” The same goes for the apologists for Lee Fowler.

Thanks Jeff. We could not have a better spokesman for the Wolfpack fan base. Best of luck tommorrow. I hope you can work in the stats of ACC and NCAA Basketball championships as of 1987 versus now for State, Dook and UNX to help people realize that N. C. State has competed on the level and sometimes above the level of these programs from the 1950’s through the 1980’s, and for anyone to think this is impossible is delusional. It has been done before and it can be done again with the right leadership in place.

    Bigfoot and Nessie aren’t real?!?!?!

Good job, Jeff. I think you nailed the minimum requirements for TOB and Lowe to have any chance of continued employment at NCSU.

Great links there, it was refreshing to hear someone lay out a reasoned case for why Fowler needed to go and why NC State should compete and can have a good athletics program again.

    Well done.

I wish Taylor would nix the phone calls. Take phone calls when you don’t have guests with opinions to offer.

    Another great job Jeff.

I still don’t agree with the specifics of everything you say (particularly on TOB), but what do you want SFN to be: a free exchange of ‘yes men’ or an open exchange of NC State-loving idea?! Great interview. You really did do an outstanding job of maintaining your bearing and keeping a good track on the main point. Thanks for representing the “50 or so lunatic fringers” well!

Just curious, when does 620 make their archived audio available?

We just need to accept our fate.
The sooner you accept that Jeff the sooner you can start taking the knives out of your head!

“NCSU will never be at the level of Carolina or Duke in basketball, and unrealistic expectations by the fan base will ultimately cause the new coach to fail…State fans should accept their fate.”
    -Jim Rome 4/3/06

If Romie said it, it has to be true.

I simply will love the day hen we stop answering questions about people who are not hear (Fowler, HWSNBN) and we get more questions about now and the future. As long as the media focus is on our AD then they are not focusing on our on field performance. I hope with our new AD we will stop talking about the AD! Successful programs do not have to spend time talking about Their ADs.
