Russell Wilson Drafted in the 4th Round (Updated 8:00)

Developing and also discussed here.

Russell Wilson was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 4th Round/140th Pick.

Apparently, the Rockies love some ACC Quarterbacks as Kyle Parker was drafted earlier.

Some interesting Tweets:

MikeBart1434 played against NC State’s Russell Wilson, he is a freak athlete played 4 diff positions against us, also QB for football team #mlbdraft

grittree RT @FSUROCKER: That’s two #ACC QBs for the #Rockies. Kyle Parker first, then Russell Wilson. #MLBDRAFT

brandonmac51 Colorado is loading up on quarterbacks in the #MLBDraft.. Wait, did that make sense?

johnmanuelba Wow, stunned the Rockies pop NC State 2b/of Russell Wilson. He’s also the QB, has flashed hitting tools, but that’s a stunner #mlbdraft

Update (2:45): An hour later and GoPack.com is still silent

Update (8:00): Wilson calls Coach O’Brien to say he will be on the field in August. GoPack.com finally gets in on the action. But c’mon really? In my opinion, this is just leverage against the Rockies… I don’t think we’ll see Russell play another snap (or pitch) for the Wolfpack.

“#2. We perhaps will finally get to see what TOB has to offer to NC State without his assisted walker (RW) this season.”

Amen. I’ve long been wondering just what happens to our program when and if RW leaves. Time will tell.

Albert Pujols was a 13th round pick. There are way more busts then success stories. I believe Russell will come back. He has been in contact with the Rockies organization, they know the situation. This will be his final year as a quarterback so we should enjoy it v

Wulfpack – Agree! Let’s see what TOB and Glennon can do. Glennon has to be ready, and very much excited to get some playing time. Let’s toss that frisbee around.

Love Russell Wilson, he’s been great for NC State! Those UNC wins he pulled off against the “great Butch Davis” were classic.

The Rockies have been doing this longer than any of us, they know what they’re doing.

Russell Wilson – Best of Luck to you in whatever you decide. We’re supporting you either way!!!

Without Wilson, we are one hit away from absolute disaster at the QB position. A “get blown out each and every game” caliber disaster.

This certainly surprised the crap out of me. Can’t play SS. Doesn’t really hit well enough to really project anywhere else. Very odd.

^So you don’t think our defense will be stout enough to keep us in games where our offense is anemic?

    lol…

i wish russell wilson the best, but, personally, i’m ready to see what glennon can do anyway

more importantly, i view this season as improve or out for TOB – the third year is when a new coach should really start to show his stuff, and TOB’s stuff last year was really bad. if he can’t show substantial improvement this year, it will be time for us to cut our losses and fire him

I really don’t get our fans. How could you possibly be ready for RW to leave? The probability that Glennon will be able to put up better numbers than RW is almost zero. Sure, it is a non-zero probability, but those are not betting odds.

Is it due to the fact that in spite of having the best QB in the ACC and some of the best offense in the ACC over the last 2 years, we have sucked anyway? Newsflash, the problem hasn’t been the offense.

I won’t be mad with him if he decides to leave, but I will be thrilled if he stays.

Regardless of what RW decides to do, I am just praying the defense is at least bad. Last year we were painfully awful. Having a bad defense this year would be a tremendous improvement.

I was pretty surprised by this pick by the Rockies. I personally thought the 4th round was quite high for a kid that wasn’t holding the starting spot on our team. This is definitely a potential pick.

I think there are 2 questions for Wilson:
    1) Does he want to try and play baseball long term?
    2) Is potential and the unknown working in his favor with respect to his baseball draft position.

Selfishly, I’d love for him to stay at NC State. He’s the second best QB that I’ve seen wear a Wolfpack uniform in my lifetime. I want him playing for us as long as possible and think that he’ll end up 1rst or 2nd in our record books in virtually every QB stat. He’s a joy to watch play and represents the university very well.

I think those wanting Glennon are just frustrated with TOB and are ready for some accountability and a chance to gauge what happens when Wilson the Wizard is gone. I think this is born more out of frustration with recent results than anything else. I can’t think that people actually want Wilson gone or think that’s best for NC State.

The best thing for us (IMHO) is for Wilson to have a magical season, for NC State to catch lightning in a bottle and for recruiting to spike up. TOB or not, we need some players.

in situations like this, what people DON’T say is more important than what they DO say. And Russell didn’t call TOB to say he’d be there September 4th for our first game. He said he’d be there for the first day of practice. That’s completely irrelevent. IIRC, Trot Nixon was actually in Raleigh ready to start practice when the Red Sox gave him what he wanted.
