Simon Harris signs with Dallas… COWBOYS (McCuller & Baker also sign)

Interesting turn of events for former NC State basketball player, Simon Harris. After graduating from NC State in 2009, Harris basketball in Ireland, came back all beefed up (I guess a diet of meat and potatoes can do that to you) and signed a free agent contract with the COWBOYS (not the Mavericks) in hopes of landing a spot on the roster at tight end. via WRAL Sports Fan

Speaking of tight ends in Texas, the Houston Texans drafted their third tight end of the last two drafts, adding even more depth and competition for NC State’s Anthony Hill (one of the two tight ends the Texans drafted last year).

In other Wolfpack senior news, Jerrail McCuller signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.  McCuller played in 34 career contests for NC State, starting 29.  The 6-7, 335 pound Jamesville native was in for 1,952 career snaps.

Lastly, Toney Baker signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos.

It seems the Cowboys were in search of some tight end talent lately. This guy Scott Sicko was never drafted but the Cowboys wanted him to come to camp, basically telling him he’d have the job.

“Some people will think I’m absolutely out of my mind, and I understand it,” Sicko told Mark McGuire of the Albany Times Union on Saturday night. “I completely see where they’re coming from. … If I were to be drafted I would have had more confidence of a much longer career in the NFL. I have to look at my life and decide what will make me the happiest. And the thing that will make me the happiest now and in the long run is to pursue my education.”

    I thought you meant Lakista.

The Texans had only one TE who was going to be able to take part in pre-camp workouts before the draft. I think Anthony Hill will be very lucky to make the team if all of the rehab for the injured TE’s goes well. If the CB and the RB work out, the Texans have a real shot at the playoffs. I’m also assuming they get a decent year out of their placekicker.

I wish Harris good luck. He’s probably gonna need it with the Cowboys. The Boys already have 3 tight ends who play a lot of snaps. But they run a lot of 2- and even 3-tight-end plays, so maybe they need another.

Harris will most likely make it as a special teams player,if he does make the roster.

Interesting the Eagles grabbed McCuller as a free agent. The Eagles really need some depth on the offensive line and didn’t draft any OL’s in the draft. They probably will have several free agent rookie offensive lineman trying out for the team, but OL is a need for the Eagles and they will most likely sign at least one of these free agent rookies to the 53 man roster.
