Baseball team picks up midweek win over ECU

Despite committing six errors, NC State picked up a big out of conference win over the Pirates Wednesday night. NC State has a lot of work left to do if it wants to make it into the post season, but there are a lot of games left to try and get that done. Wednesday’s win was NC State’s fourth straight win and ninth victory in its last 12 games.

The remaining ACC schedule is workable as NC State hosts Boston College, Georgia Tech and Duke while traveling to Florida State. And if you haven’t gotten to see the Wolfpack play yet, now is your chance. 14 of State’s final 17 ball games are at the Doak. The first one is this Friday against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m.

N&O: Wolfpack stops Pirates

N.C. State had more in a 8-6 baseball victory against East Carolina at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Wednesday.

Not just more runs, but more earned runs. Not just more hits, but more timely hits.

With a tie score heading into the eighth, N.C. State rapped three doubles and a single, scoring Chris Schaeffer, John Gianis and Matt Bergquist to give the Wolfpack (26-13) an 8-5 lead.

6 errors is quite disconcerting. To overcome 6 errors and still win on the road is a sign of a team that does not quit. This late-inning victory against a team ranked as high as #21 in the country (in the NCBWA Division I Poll) is a solid non-conference win.

Now time for some home cooking with a 10 game homestand. To everyone who lives in the Raleigh area, go out and support the Pack this weekend!

i think State’s overall record is pretty good and their conference record at this time is so-so. through a number of discussions at backing the pack, i found that State’s strength of schedule and RPI are pretty high despite playing a schedule similar to those in the past. State in 2004 had a losing conference record and still made the NCAA’S due to their strong SOS and RPI. this years our to conference schedule includes the usual ECU, Coastal Carolina, UNC Wilmington, and Campbell games. the games against Qunnipiac and Coppin State probably didn’t help things. i figure State needs to take 2 of 3 from BC, at least one from both Ga Tech and FSU and sweep Duke to get into the NCAA’S. State probably has already secured a spot in the conference tournament which only takes the top eight teams. however, if one looks at the recent past history, one realizes how hard it has become for State to beat Ga Tech at all. i was at the last game against Ga Tech in the 2008 ACC tournament and the way State ended up losing (starting short stop for State thrown out of the game for not sliding at home and the new second baseman making two errors as two reasons) was numing. State didn’t play Ga Tech last year.

I kept an eye on this one last night through the live stats computer system. Fantastic WIN!…. I have worried about our chances due to late inning pitching… I was very Proud of young Sasser…. He nailed the door shut with some strong pitching. I do feel that our releif pitching is improving with every game and forsee continued success the rest of this year……

This season has been a lot of fun to watch. With the wins over Virginia, UNC, and now ECU, I think they have proven that they can compete with any team. It would be great to see some bigger crowds at Doak/Dail.

The rankings seem biased to me. ECU came into to the game at #21 and we weren’t ranked. Both teams overall records were within one game of each other. We had played twice as many conf games (9-9) as ecu(6-3) & overall the ACC is a stronger conf than Cusa.

We even have a series win over number one UVa.

Meanwhile unc stayed in the rankings way too long with such a poor conf record. Its like State has to be twice as good as our neighbors to get ranked. I don’t get the rankings agenda from the non-coaches polls .
