The NFL Draft is over and the pundits will slice and dice the moves of all 32 NFL franchises for the coming weeks.

One organization that is receiving relatively high marks for their draft is the New England Patriots. That is good news for NC State fans as the moves around the draft elevated the Patriots onto the list of NFL teams that are favorites for us to follow.

Yesterday, the Pats got a bit of a steal when they picked up NC State’s Ted Larsen in the 6th round; and, before the draft the Pats signed NC State legend, Torry Holt to one year, $1.7 million contract. Thank goodness for Torry’s assault on the career receiving record books that he was able to get out of Jacksonville where there is nobody to throw him balls.

Listed at 6-feet, 200 pounds, Holt spent last season with the Jaguars, with 51 receptions for 722 yards (14.2 yards per catch). During the first 10 seasons of his career, all in St. Louis, Holt averaged 87 catches per season; in the Super Bowl XXXVI loss to the Patriots, he recorded five grabs.

Can Torry get over a 1000 yards and resurrect himself during the golden age of his career ala Randy Moss? I hope so. But the fact they have two alum only makes me hate them less. I can never pull for the Pats. Ever. Well, unless they picked up Rivers but let’s hope it never happens.

I certainly wish Ted and Torry the best on an individual level but I absolutely despise that franchise, so put me in the large crowd that could never root for the Patriots to win again.

I’m hearing that the Lions, Ravens and Jets really helped themselves in this drop. Watch out for Baltimore next year. They are going to be really nasty.

Agree with Wulfpack, the Patriot franchise is a hard one to pull for when you’re outside of New England.

Rooting against a Philip Rivers team would be like rooting against a David Thompson team.

I wish Rivers was playing for the Redskins, but better San Diego than the Panthers, a team with the wrong name, the wrong town, and the wrong announcer. Go Bolts!

Was glad to see Ted and Willie get drafted. I wish Toney Baker could have been drafted as well. Jaws and the crew were talking about what an honor it is just to be drafted during the final pick and it made me hope that it would be Toney Baker. He deserved to get drafted by SOMEONE this year, even in a very deep draft class. The tenacity he showed to spend two years off the field and come back to have a great final season for the Pack would have been enough for me to use at least a 6th rd pick…but of course, I’m a homer, so what do I know about REAL football…I kinda hate to see him go to Denver, where he’ll be competing with Morena and Tebow for carries, but I’m glad I’ll get to see him play the Chargers twice a year!

Also very glad to see San Diego add a solid #1 running back to that already amazing offense! It’s going to be hard to stop them this year, especially the way they beefed up the middle of their defense. I know corner depth is an issue, but I think that Cason and Jammer will hold their own in the scheme Rivera puts together and Vasher will be a solid Nickle and backup. I wouldn’t be surprised to see SD pick up a corner in FA before summer camps start. There’s still a lot of good talent left after this draft!
