Video: I really feel bad

I saw this on Sportscenter the other night and couldn’t help to feel horrible for this girl. If you didn’t see these two wide open layups that would have sent Xavier to the Final Four then you can watch below:

Hat tip to The Dagger that supplements ^this with more commentary and some historical perspective on other epic ‘misses’.

Included in the Dagger’s comments is a link to the following video from UCLA’s epic comeback against Gonzaga in 2006. It is probably more relevant to this year’s NCAA Tournament because of the beauty that is Gus Johnson making the call. (Link to the updated Gus Johnson soundboard)

While we are on videos & The Dagger, this video of the John Wall arm has been making its way around the internet.

Classic over-correction on that second layup, which was easier than the first. Like missing a 1-footer to win a golf tournament.

I can’t imagine how tough that would be to live with. You don’t want to publicly criticize a student-athlete…but, she was so open that she got scared/nervous (note I intentionally avoided a pretty obvious word).

Granted, I’ve not seen this young woman play so this may be a bit out of line, but… the second shot looks like a lot of shots I see in women’s games – they aren’t so much “shot” as they are “launched” with the ball tossed in the general direction of the basket. I especially see it on layups. I guess it’s due to lack of height, lack of hops, small hands – therefore a layup becomes much more of an adventure.

Whatever the cause, it still sucks for her though.

on the bright side, only 340 people in the stands.
if not for ESPN…tree falling in woods analogy.
