Wolfpack dribbles away shot at championship game

Georgia Tech 57
NC State 54

NC State may have lost today’s ACC semifinal game against Georgia Tech back in January of this 2009 when then high school stud recruit, Derrick Favors, ultimately picked Georgia Tech over NC State.

Freshman forward Derrick Favors scored 17 points to lead the seventh-seeded Yellow Jackets to a 57-54 win and into the final against top-seeded Duke.

The 11th-seeded Pack was able to withstand the size mismatches against Clemson and FSU but it can’t get the same outside shots (6-26 from 3-point range) and couldn’t contain Favors, who scored five points in a critical sequence.

If Favors’ decision and ultimate presence for the Yellow Jackets didn’t do it alone, the Wolfpack’s atrocious free throw shooting certainly aided the cause. On the afternoon, the Wolfpack shot just 10 of 19 from the free throw line, including misses on the front end of multiple one and one opportunities.

The play of the game clearly happened as described below:

Favors’ step-out jumper at 2:50 gave GT a 47-46 lead it held for the remainder of the game. Favors was grabbed on a breakaway by Javier Gonzalez, after Gonzalez turned the ball over at midcourt, and he scored three points on the intentional foul free throw and the ensuing possession.

If you feel like it chris, give a howl during the game 🙂

We need all the stars to align to pull this off.

So proud of the guys for their fight late in the season.

Miami just not enough oomph to pull it off today …

They fought all the way though.

GT is the dumbest team in the ACC. Y’all play smart and you’ll win.

Let’s go Pack!!! Play smart, play determined, play like a champion!!

GT is so lazy on cuts to get open NCSU has to take advantage of that.

I hope the boys aren’t too tired. Just watching Georgia Techs warm-ups their jump shots were short, hitting the front of the rim. Hopefully GT’s legs are worn out.

    Looked like he walked again.

Let’s not have a Hansbrough out there (sorry chris).

Wood has gotten the first foul for the Pack just about every game this season, all within the first minute.

    Not a good start offensively

  17. AveryPage 03/13/2010 at 3:59 PM #

This guy is going to walk every time he touches it. Just a matter of if they call it.

Houston Cougars has made it to the dance. It’s Wolfpack turn to schedule the meeting.

Oh dear. Killing us on the inside and rebounding.

Good thing we’re only down 3-2.

    Make it 5-2

  21. Rick 03/13/2010 at 4:04 PM #

Did they say two on TS?

  22. wufpup76 03/13/2010 at 4:04 PM #

    Sh*t.

  23. chris92heel 03/13/2010 at 4:05 PM #

    Tyler walked like twice…ever.

  24. BassPacker 03/13/2010 at 4:05 PM #

We started slow against FSU last nite. No panic.
That foul should have been on Horner.

  25. NCSUPackfan 03/13/2010 at 4:05 PM #

They look tired…Horner hitting front of the rim on both of his 3’s. We need something to spark some energy.
