In case anyone forgot, we stink. Not only do we have mediocre guard talent, we have guys playing out of position. Degand is not a shooting guard. Mays is not a point guard. I like Degand for the fact that he is the only guard who can actually dribble into the defense, but he can’t shoot. Right now VT is daring him to shoot it. If I was coach for a day, I’d have Degand playing PG for 35+ minutes based on quickness alone, Wood at SG for 35+, and some combination of Howell/Smith/Horner/Painter/Davis down low.

  2. NJpack 02/10/2010 at 9:29 PM #

And I would tell Horner to shave that ridiculous facial hair.

We are finally acting like we care on the floor, but the hole is deep. No reason to be playing this poorly.

Valentine is killing us right now.

    Dear Prospective NC State Fan,

Thank you for your interest in supporting our fantastic and storied program. Ours is a history of great players, games, and drama that will surely delight avid fans and sportsmen. However, it is customary that we issue a list of what you can expect as a proud member of the Wolfpack Nation.

Over the history of Wolfpack athletics, we have won conference and national championships in several sports. Recently, though, we have begun to focus our efforts on more important things. As you know, athletics is not about winning or losing. It is about buildings and equipment. At NC State, we have excellent facilities for our student athletes. Our recently renovated centers are state-of-the-art, allowing our players to train under optimum circumstances and with premium equipment. We are told that these facilities will increase our competitiveness, but we will have to wait for confirmation of that claim.

Our coaches are of the highest caliber. They are fantastic people, and we are proud to give them the opportunity to succeed. We are so confident of their competence that we are willing to give them their positions without expectations of progress or victories. We are one of the few schools in the NCAA willing to make such an offer, which makes a position within the Athletic Department at NC State a highly coveted one. We like our coaches to experience as little stress as possible.

If you’re like most sports fans, you will often check popular sports sites on the Internet. We encourage such actions. You will often find highlights on sites such as ESPN.com. Those clips will show great plays and extraordinary feats of athleticism. When you watch those videos, you will notice the athletes of NC State standing below the player making the dunk or chasing the player with the football. It is good that we have such media exposure.

Another wonderful aspect of being a pack fan is that you can always be the underdog. Everyone enjoys rooting for the underdog, and NC State has perfected that role. We are never expected to win, and therefore can always celebrate when those rare victories come. We also defy expectations, except on the occasion that those expectations are low. During those times, we give the fans what they expect and more.

Do not let our history fool you. We are all aware of our dark past as a competitor on the national level. We refuse to let this happen again. We feel that our status as a regional spoiler is preferable to that of a national powerhouse. Our athletic department is overworked as it is, and they would rather deal with media and fans when the rare victory arises rather than on a regular basis.

As you will see during your time as a Pack fan, we enjoy providing inspirational and often lucky moments for fans. Whether we are assessed a foul call call on a three-point shot during the NCAA tournament or having officials miss the same call when it would benefit the Pack, we make sure our opponents’ fans enjoy their luck. We are occasionally forced to shoot prayer shots at the end of games, and they usually do not fall for us. However, rest assured that our opponents hit those shots often and in incredible ways.

Long will you, as a State fan, lie in wait for “next year” and “someday.” We have been assured that we will have quality athletic programs across the board during these times. It will be then that our fans will have the satisfaction of knowing victory. We will always win “next year.”

If you feel that our ideals are in tune with your own, please feel free to cheer for us as you see fit. We are sure that you will find your time with the Wolfpack as fulfilling as our other loyal fans.

    Sincerely,

The Athletic Department of NC State University

Mays got hacked on that last shot before halftime. How the f**k is that foul not called?

Good to see Painter out there contributing. Javi looks completely out of it tonight.

  7. choppack1 02/10/2010 at 9:45 PM #

I have no idea how you don’t call a foul there. What scumbags.

  8. jamieinkorea 02/10/2010 at 9:46 PM #

They don’t call fouls like that because we’re State and they aren’t.

  9. whope90 02/10/2010 at 9:50 PM #

Why worry about fouls, we can’t shoot them either!
What a performance and a great coaching job by El Sid!
How many people are there 3000? I think i go back and watch the Duke/Unc game, UNC maybe 13-10 but at least they have fans at the game?
I think the camera spotted a man eating nachos!!

  10. whope90 02/10/2010 at 9:53 PM #

NC State Men’s college basketball coached by EL Sid:
    PRICELESS!!
    What’s next football season?
Vtech is not impressive and we are losing by 11?
This team has quit, the coaches have quit and i think the fans have as wellexcept the guy eating his nachos!
    Hey, where is the beandip?
Oh yeah El sid is having that at halftime?
What adjustments will he make? “hey guys!! make shots!!
WHERE IS THE ZONE DEFENSE!! JUST TRY A TWO THREE ZONE
But we do not play zone do we El Sid!!

Losing and NC State basketball, hand in hand :priceless!!

“We’re going to make America skinny one slap at a time”
    -Vince
I wonder if that’s what he said before he slapped the hooker….

  13. inhoc... 02/10/2010 at 9:57 PM #

Haven’t seen any of the game. Unfortunately I remembered it was on…prediction, we loose!

  14. inhoc... 02/10/2010 at 9:57 PM #

    7-0 fast breaks

  15. NJpack 02/10/2010 at 10:12 PM #

I don’t think Degand has hit the rim on his 3 point attempts.

  16. eas 02/10/2010 at 10:25 PM #

Not even hitting the rim (hard off the back board) no game plan and 0 offense. We are still declining every game…..year etc. No crowd.

The writing is on the wall (regardless of the great recruits coming in). Problem is that Fowler can’t read, so he doesn’t know what the writing says.

    No 5th season.

  17. JeremyH 02/10/2010 at 10:35 PM #

Virginia Tech is a very physical team (think Denver Thuggets), and these refs are letting them play on. I guess that’s basketball.

  18. Dogbreath 02/10/2010 at 10:43 PM #

Its time to cut bait. Hopefully things are being orchestrated to facilitate Sid’s exit without having to fire him.

  19. Pack Mentality 02/10/2010 at 10:46 PM #

I didn’t watch, just checked the score occasionally. I. CANNOT. STAND. THIS. TEAM.

  20. thursday1 02/10/2010 at 10:47 PM #

I can’t believe we had our scrubs in first. Don’t want to risk injuring our star players apparently.

  21. st8family 02/10/2010 at 10:51 PM #

Do yourself a favor, quit watching.

If you watch, I highly recommend participating in the liveblog. Very therapeutic and comic relief during an otherwise deplorable season so far.
