NC State heads to Florida to face Noles, who will likely be slightly upset

This one could get ugly if the Wolfpack doesn’t bring its A game, which I think most people have figured out is some form of basketball that NC State played in the second half of the Marquette game. It could get ugly despite anything State does. FSU is coming off a loss to Maryland Sunday and is not happy about it — the Terps snapped the Noles’ seven-game winning streak.

The 25th-ranked Noles are scoring more points per games than NC State and giving up less, at least so far, and are 8-0 at home. They have a post defender in Solomon Alabi who can probably handle Tracy Smith on his own, allowing for more consistent defense on the other four Wolfpack on the court at any given time. One key for State will be trying to get Alabi in foul trouble. Ryan Reid is serviceable and could also defend Smith, but he’s no Alabi.

And for those who thought NC State blowing a to Virginia Saturday was bad, you might want to hide your eyes. Last time the Wolfpack faced FSU it was a similar story. The Wolfpack played well through much of the game and had a 63-59 lead with 6 minutes to go before going as cold as it’s been in NC the last few weeks, scoring just two points over the final six minutes and losing 78-65.

NC State has had success against FSU, winning 15 of the last 19 meetings. The Wolfpack has also managed to win six of the last seven meetings in Tallahassee. But I get the feeling tonight’s game could be different.

Backing the Pack has a more thorough breakdown of FSU’s starting lineup and bench.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Net. I’ve considered using Cover It Live during the game tonight. For those who are unfamiliar with that software, it’s basically a chat-style window that would be up on the blog where people could chat about the game as it happens. There is a score feature which keeps up with the game. If you guys would like the ability to do that and talk about the game as it happens, let me know.

Just to let you know how much Vegas respects our overall record against FSU. We are 10pt underdogs! Holy Crap!

Our overall record against FSU is as meaningless as previous spins of the ball on a roulette wheel! But if gamblers see our overall record with FSU and think it means something, then I suppose it does. Because it affects the spread!

All Vegas cares about is equal betting on each side, and they keep the “juice”. If bettors are betting on State because of our record against FSU, that might explain why the spread is smaller than we might expect. But it has no bearing on who will or should actually win the game.

It makes me want to bet on FSU to cover, actually! But I don’t bet any more, and if I did, I would never bet for or against State. It’s bad karma. A friend of mine (State fan and graduate) bet on State against Florida. He always seems to lose his bets! He just needed State to win, not by any certain number of points. That explains why Florida hit that miracle shot. My friend jinxed State by betting on them. Karma taught him a lesson!

If we do win tonight, it will just be because we’re young and that youth is causing inconsistency (such as losing to Virginia at home and beating FSU on the road). We could lose big, or win by 10. Nothing would surprise me tonight.

FSU should be worried. The Pack will come in fired up and ready to go after 20 down years.

The sports gods hate me. The FSU/NCSU game isn’t worthy of broadcast into VA….but the MD/WF game is going to preempt NCIS. Just perfect!

This is definitely a must win

P.S. I would never bet on state

The reason we’re 10 point dogs tonight is because the Vegas folks use their brains instead of their hearts when their wallets are involved.

Evidently the CBS affiliate in VaWolf’s area, like Channel 5 here in Raleigh, is showing the Wake game instead of NCIS. For those who live within 65 miles or so of Randleman, the location of Channel 2’s tv tower south of Greensboro, this powerful CBS HD signal is available in Wake County with even a modest rooftop antenna. Now that Channel 2 no longer carries the local ACC network, it’s great to again see not only CBS programming during the week but also the CBS weekend headliner games that Channel 5 continues to black out here.

2 shot clock violations in 5 1/2 minutes is completely unacceptable.

    I just started watching.
    How do we look?

Wood can get rid of the ball quick.

I like the irony of the headline.

VaWolf82, how ’bout that Pack! 🙂

Sorry you had to miss NCIS, and all you could see was the WAKE game? Ugh! How low have we sunk when a Wake game (ANY Wake game) is more important than an NC State game.

Here’s hoping the new Chancellor will replace the AD, who, in turn, will replace Sidney (if and when the time comes for that). We’ve got to get back on track. It just has to happen at some point.

“Not that we can erase a loss to the likes of UVA (one of the few “likely wins” we have left), but a road victory against FSU will do something to numb the pain.”

    …numbing accomplished.

    …..then lost to UVa again.
