Amato has cancerous spot on tonsil

Former N.C. State football coach Chuck Amato will undergo treatment for a cancerous spot located on his tonsil, N.C. State sports information director Annabelle Myers confirmed.

Doctors detected the cancer early, and a full recovery is expected.
Amato gave a statement to Myers after a Charlotte Observer and News & Observer reporter inquired about his health.

“I appreciate the concern and prayers so many people,” Amato said. “The prognosis is optimistic, which is very encouraging, and with the grace of God and the support of my family and friends and the Wolfpack Nation, I will get through this.”

Hopefully Coach Amato can have a speedy recovery and not suffer any sort of long-lasting problems associated with this cancerous spot.

Amato said he plans to continue his daily regiment and hopes to get a coaching job soon.

NC State cancer curse strikes again! Good luck to Chuck. He’s a good person even if he is not the greatest football coach.

I hope CTC can beat that cancer like he helped us beat FSU in Tallahassee several years back. I will always go down believing he was a great coach (if you don’t give me great, give me very good). QB development post PR was his achilles heel.

Prayers for you, Chuck. They say you caught this early and have a good chance of beating it. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. And best wishes finding a head coaching gig somewhere, just not for a team that plays NC State. 🙂

Why would you not just “remove the tonsils”? Heck, I haven’t had mine in 60 years?? Maybe that is the “treatment”, but sure sounded strange!

I realize it may have spread, but w/o other info…this one confused me. But hope he’s ok. Got a friend’s wife who is fighting it in the sinus cavities. Even stranger place!
