Site Update – technical difficulties?

The SFN authors been driving some fantastic topics and conversations the last few days. So, don’t hesitate to do some surfing of some recent entries and of the message boards (linked here)

We have recently received emails bringing our attention to some problems in our registering process. We wanted to let everyone know that we have been working on this issue and we think/hope that we have remedied the problem. So, please give it another try and if you continue to have problems drop us an email at [email protected]. Keep in mind that aol.com and other assholish domains may continue giving problems but it should work for 99% of the world; also, your blog registration automatically transfers over to the message board community.

Lastly, I use the most recent version of Firefox. Starting this weekend I started noticing the two following items:
(1) The “StateFansNation” banner/header in the blog stopped loading and
(2) The message boards don’t load any kind of color or template – I just get blue hyperlinks and black text.

I wanted to ask if others were experiencing the same issues.

Thanks so much!

    Firefox 3.5.3 for me

The forum loads with white background, red text for me.

The banner didn’t load once for me, but a refresh fixed it.

One minor complaint. The ad at the top, the wide one. I absolutely hate when the ads there auto-expand when you mouse over them. That’s fine when it’s an ad on the margin, but when it is a spot you have to mouse over to get to the bottom of the page, it’s annoying. Not sure you have control over this though. There was one earlier in the week doing that.

This is a nit, but when I’m browsing with my iphone, the iphone specific skin doesn’t have the link to the forums or the other sections at the top, which is annoying. If you get the time to fix, that would be nice!

I also use Firefox 3.5.3. I have not seen the issues you described above. Looks normal to me.

My only minor nit would be in agreement with PPP…. Driven to distraction by ads that expand, “flash”, play sound or motion, or otherwise make asses of themselves. I understand if it’s something you can’t avoid, hope it doesn’t fall into the category of necessary evil.

But otherwise I like most of the changes here over the past ~year or so and I appreciate all the work you guys put into the site.

I’ve had trouble leaving comments on the forum. It is a good enhancement though.

agreed. +1 FP. flash ads are my problem.
they try to stuff too much into them.
my ultra just says “forget about it”.

My only issue, and I have asked many times for a fix with no response,
is that I can never see the poll. It will flash up for a second but once I scroll over it all text disappears except for the stars.

Therefore I can’t vote or see the results.

    How can I correct this.

    Thank you.

Not a bug, but a request. On the forums, would prefer to have (or have option for) the most recent post shown first.

gcpack: what browser/operating system are you using?

I’ve had some problems with the Forum RSS feeds. An HTML character in the tag is causing it to break.

Firefox 3.5.3 here as well. I’ve noticed none of the issues that have been mentioned so far. The only problem I’ve noticed is that for blog entries that have moved down from the top of the front page (below the top three and down where they are listed 2 per line), if I click the red “Continue reading…” link it will more often than not open up the blog entry that is currently at the very top of the front page.

For a long time I figured it was just human error in setting up the links correctly, but it seems to be an ongoing and frequent occurrence. For example, tonite when trying to open up this very thread, which currently is fourth down on the page, one of the two threads on the first row of “smaller” entries arranged 2 per line, I clicked on the red “Continue reading…” link and instead of bringing me into this thread it took me into the thread “Profiles in Competence…..”, which is currently the newest entry and is in the top spot on the front page. Ditto if I click the red “Continue reading…” links for “O’Brien Remains Upbeat…..”, “Wolfpack Sports Marketing…..” and “Bobby Purcell Makes…..” which are the other 3 entries on the first two lines of 2 threads per line. Probably true for the rest down the front page also but I didn’t test any more beyond that. Fortunately the headline links work fine and I’m still always able to get into the thread.
