Fowler: “show will provide good publicity and exposure for N.C. State” / Horrible parking woes @ C-F ruin concert for many

Another person wrote, “I was very disappointed with what I witnessed last evening. I will never participate in any event at Carter Finley Stadium or RBC Center in Raleigh AGAIN! I have seen many concerts over the years and the way this (traffic) was handled was a joke.”

Just checked the N&O blog to read a review of the U2 concert at CF last night. People are irate about the traffic situation. Check out the comments section of this article.

Seriously, CF was packed. Didn’t look like it was many people that missed the concert except for people who came really late.

I did notice all of the breaklights on Trinity Rd. during the concert though.

Typical tabloid media reporting, specially from N&O. Find a couple who blames the world for all their problems, including not planning ahead for traffic and report on it as a mass problem. First thing they said was “we came in from out of town” well duh, plan ahead and early if not familiar with the area.

We had a great time, no traffic issues coming or going. Tailgated before and after the concert, which was a show within itself from so many people who had to be home before their carriage turned back to a pumpkin.

Try going to see U2 at Fed Ex field. 90000 fans in the 5th largest US metropolitan area with the worst highway system known to man. My friends allotted 2 hours of travelling…each way! I miss Raleigh traffic – I hit a traffic jam on 95 Sunday afternoon outside of DC.

I drove into the parking lots at 6:15 and found a spot in 10 minutes. The stadium was packed by the time U2 came on stage. It was an awesome show; I left during the last song and had no problems leaving the lot. I’m sure a few people had bad experiences, but there are always some like that.

Like someone else said though: NCSU, SHP, the Hurricanes, and the Ag Dept (Fairgrounds) need to develop a comprehensive plan for parking and traffic that everyone understands and follows. Follow this traffic plan for any and all events held at RBC, C-F, and the Fairgrounds. No exceptions.

Does the DC metro not run up to Landover?

I had friends that were planning on taking the MBTA to the Foxboro show to avoid traffic. I thought it was absurd that the CAT didn’t have ANYTHING running to the concert.

When Walnut Creek first opened, they had a great park-and-ride system. If you had a ticket, you could ride for free from downtown. They’d buzz you right up to the front gate and you were the first ones out.

I’ll willing to bet that the majority of those impacted by the traffic woes were those that are inexperienced with navigating the traffic associated with a State Fair or an NCSU football game.

And why is Lee Fowler the lead of this story? I enjoy this blog, but it borders on comical when Fowler is always the scapegoat. Fowler was not directing traffic, inventorying concessions or conducting post-concert field sobriety tests. At showtime, I’m sure he was Winston-Salem, sucking on his unlit cigar and wondering why Bowens didn’t get to the post.

The metro does run to Landover. It’s about a mile or two from the stadium though. Landover is in a bad part of Maryland – cheap land. So no one works or lives close by. My colleagues in Tysons Corner (McLean, VA) left around 5:00 with the hopes of getting there by 7:00. This entails driving through DC rush “hour” traffic (the “hour” is 4, from 3:30 – 7:30) to their homes, which typically are not near metro stations. Getting a cab or ride from their homes (those who don’t live 20 miles in the opposite direction toward Dulles) to the metro. Taking the metro during rush hour. Possibly switching lines at Metro Center. Hiking 2 miles to the stadium. All said and done, 2 hours is probably average, not taking into account contingent events (e.g. metro crash, car crash). Or you could just drive if you have parking passes and get a sadistic pleasure from driving 20 miles in 2 hours.

So yeah, I always get a kick out of hearing the traffic complaints in Raleigh. I envy you guys.

This is a horribly biased title, and I think SFN loses some credibility by posting it in the blog. As much as I dislike LF, linking his decision to allow U2 at C-F with traffic congestion from concert goers who can’t plan ahead is plainly ridiculous. I attended. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and evening, the band was excellent, and 60,000 people seemed to have a great time. And by the way, this has almost nothing to do with NCSU athletics.

People complaining about the traffic leading to CFS for a concert are idiots or should I say ignorant. Who thinks like this…

I’m about to drive to a stadium to see a concert with 60K people and I plan on taking the only interstate heading to the stadium so I’ll leave two hours before it starts. Please. The smart money would be coming in some other way than the interstate or be in a lot at least 4 hours before the show starts. Why would you pay as much to see U2 and not make plans or a day out of it?
