Sidney Lowe 2.0

Interview on 850TheBuzz.

NC State basketball coach Sidney Lowe dropped by the morning show to catch us up with his offseason. The man has been busy golfing at the Rex Hospital Open, checking out the Carolina Hurricanes, making the rounds for Wolfpack Club caravans, and quietly putting together an exciting recruiting class. After a 3-year transition, the upcoming 2009-2010 season appears to be a fresh start. Think Star Trek or any number of Hollywood franchise reboots populating the theaters. With an all-new cast running the offense, Lowe sounds like he’s looking forward to sitting down during the game action.

Re Mays: Mays played a total of 10 min in the last 8 reg season ACC games. This is just one of Lowes decisions I could never understand considering he stepped up and hit the game winning three in OT against Miami, and dont forget the ACCT: 24pts in 18 min against Maryland.I just said the kid had heart, not that he was one of the best players on the team.

The point I was making is that many times last season it was the underclassmen who stepped up, while the seniors largely underperformed.

Everyone who follows the Pack knows full well that Brandon Costner for whatever reason just did not come to play last year. I think Ben had a chip on his shoulder still, because of losing minutes to Hickson, Fells did not show up for long stretches, possibly because he was playing injured.

We needed one of these seniors to step up and lead the team, Costner would have been the logical choice but he refused to do so, and so did Ben and Fells.

Now that said seniors will no longer be on the court, I believe our returning players and incoming class will play with an excitement we haven’t seen since the ACCT run Lowes first year.
