Chatting with Rivers and more ‘House Divided’ crap

I ran across a pretty low quality chat with Philip Rivers this morning. Audio only although they do flash some photos up in a slideshow type format (check out the photo with Broncos QB Jay Cutler with his head down). Let this quench our thirst for football season as we have to wait many more moons for pigskin kickoff.

Not much of note, but Rivers does talk about the role of the returning Ladanian Tomlinson as well as Darren Sproles which will be interesting to watch play out given Sproles had a breakout year last year.

Secondly, as Memorial Day is upon us, no doubt that many of us will be rolling out the grills. I’ll be rolling my Char Broil Commercial Series stainless steel grill shortly for some chicken and shrimp that has been marinating overnight. However, not everyone can be so lucky. I found this travesty in the Mount Olive Tribune.

Firstly, thank God my wife is a degree-totin’ member of the Wolfpack Nation. I don’t know if I could put up with that. No doubt that this guy has heard his fair share of nagging “But honey why can’t the grill that you use all the time to cook my meals be both red and blue?”

Secondly, now that the grill is half blue, surely he’ll have tons of fun with it out on the fairground lots outside of Kenan. Right?

Oh yes, he’s going to take that grill straight out to the hospital parking decks, pass the whine and cheese, and park his grill in one of the many vacant spots.

Let’s remind ourselves of that treasured atmosphere, with the Pine Trees and all.

Treasured. Intimidating.

We got a new HR lady 2 years ago. After making the required flesh-pressing rounds she noticed my State cup and diploma in my office. For some reason she felt compelled to tell me her “house” was divided but pulled for all the NC teams. I told her there was no such thing as divided, only misinformed and there was only 1 NC “State” team. The retiring HR manager almost split his ribs laughing at her face as he was a former State football player during the 60’s.

Haha, forgive her, she’s just been brought up in the bandwagon fashion.

I’ve got two of those barrel cookers, one gas, one charcoal and love both. Never thought of painting it totally red though. That might be a project this summer. Know where I can get some heat resistant State decals to go on it???

sounds like nonstop hilarity at tobtime’s office.

Seems like the heat on your barrel cooker would blister the paint.

Also for anyone who is interested…this week’s Sporting News has a very good 5 page article/interview with Philip Rivers. It is probably one of the better things written about him and he gets to give his side to the story when it comes to jackals like the Four Letter and their drumbeat about his so-called trash talking. Reading it you will come away with no doubt about his leadership and the respect he has from the other Chargers.

Highstick- don’t know about decals, but red paint is fairly easy to find. I think JC Whitney has one rated to 900 or 1200 degrees. You can also do it with a couple of metals, but I can’t recall them off the top of my head and I’m way to lazy to hit the books on a Saturday evening.

Hadn’t thought of Whitney. I usually just use the black paint that’s made for grills.

Those barrel cookers are both over 12 years old and have lasted a lot longer than any commercial cookers that I’ve ever owned. Have never even had to change the burners out on the gas one.

No to change this to a cooking show, but did a swap with one of my buddies for a cast aluminum grill a couple of weeks ago. It’s medium sized and very portable. I smoked some baby backs last night on it and probably didn’t use but about 15-20 pieces of charcoal and they were fantastic. My buddy had two of them and the internal parts had rusted out and I found replacements on the web so I bought the parts and he gave me his spare grill. It’s going to work great tailgating.
