Katz Correction, no Hawaii for Wolfpack

Say it isn’t so!?

Andy Katz gets a report wrong?

Next you will try to convince me that the Pope has Catholic tendencies!

A day after Katz ran a report that claimed NC State playing in a tournament in Hawaii this Christmas, Joe Giglio sets the record straight.

N.C. State’s basketball team will not be spending Christmas in Hawaii.

Wolfpack AD Lee Fowler said an ESPN report that has State in Honolulu over Christmas is wrong. State talked to the organizers of the new Diamond Head Classic but couldn’t work out a deal, Fowler said.

The made-for-ESPN tournament is Dec. 22, 23 and 25 in Honolulu and features eight teams. USC, UNLV, College of Charleston and host Hawaii have committed to the field.

State has made five trips to 50th state for basketball tournaments, the last in 1995.

Greywolf, you mentioned something in another thread (and I’m not going to look it up) about there being no interest in anything beyond Wolfpack men’s BB, FB, and to some extent, baseball, concerning Wolfpack sports. Well I, for one, while not following every sport closely, enjoy seeing NCSU succeeding and being publicized in ANY sport because it gets the NCSU name in front of alot of people. Plus my 10-year-old granddaughter plays in a competitive soccer league, has some idea that she could play college soccer, and knows (STRONGLY) about NCSU (from me!) – and she lives 1,200 miles away from Raleigh. I also have a friend (AFA graduate) in Michigan whose son (age 16) is a rising junior in HS, has D1 capabilities, and is looking at the ACC because it is the best D1 men’s soccer conference, as a place for his college education. Plus, D1 women’s BB championships, D1 soccer championships (men’s and women’s), D1 lacrosse championships and D1 softball championships are now regularly on ESPN and other national channels. What better way to get the Wolfpack logo nationally recognized! So IMO to foo foo the “minor” NCSU sports is a great negligence and needs to be addressed if we are to have an overall successful athletics probram. AND I like to beat the Holes and Duke in ANYTHING and EVERYTHING!

Read the headline and thought SFN was talking about the football team.
