RTC: Seth Curry could save Lowe’s job?

We’ve been really humming here at SFN the last few weeks as there is an awful lot of NC State Basketball news out there for a team that failed to make the NCAA Tournament. (We hope that you are passing the word to all of your friends that they need to be visiting us more often!)

  • This entry looks at the 2009-2010 Wolfpack
  • This entry highlights a lot of the roster changes and includes some fantastic analysis and conversation.

It was announced yesterday that Seth Curry, the nation’s #1 scoring freshman and Stephon Curry’s brother, plans to transfer from Liberty to seek a school where he can compete at a higher level.  Rush The Court has all that you need on the topic including some interesting analysis.

After being lightly recruited out of high school (when will scouts and college coaches learn), Curry led all freshman in scoring at 20.2 PPG. Curry has not listed any of his potential choices and college coaches are not allowed to comment on potential transfers so at the very least Seth will keep college basketball message boards abuzz for the next couple of weeks.

When you read the entry you will see the news that it appears Curry may be ACC-bound.

Any guesses on where he is headed? There are a couple interesting potential legacy destinations: Davidson (replace his brother) or Virginia Tech (his father’s alma mater–helping Seth Greenberg save some face and get in the NCAA tournament, but that bridge may have been burned). Or will Seth go to another big-name program? There are plenty of other programs that could use a guy who averaged over 20 PPG as a freshman and averaged 25 PPG on 55% FG in 2 games against ACC opponents (Clemson and Virginia) this year. I would think he would want to stay relatively close to home (Charlotte area) and be in a starring role at a place where he could take over in a year so I would think that would exclude a place like UNC or Duke, but I could see him at Wake Forest or NC State (potentially saving Sidney Lowe’s job) particularly since all of their current stars leaving by then.

RTC says the following more specifically about NC State’s program:

NC State: This would be fairly close to home and at a big-name program albeit one that has fallen a few notches since they let Herb Sendek go. This would have to be a huge addition for a program that has fallen to the #4 program in the state (possibly lower) and could save Lowe’s job.

I haven’t had any time to analyze Curry’s potential fit with the Wolfpack’s roster, although on the surface I think I would be very pleased with a de facto recruiting class in 2010 of Ryan Harrow, CJ Leslie and Seth Curry. Suddenly the Wolfpack’s roster would be very well balanced with skilled players at almost every position and the only glaring hole potentially being the need for a tall athletic wing forward (that may end up being Richard Howell if he expands his game).

JUST FOR FUN, here is how the Wolfpack’s roster COULD look:

“NO chance at C.J. Leslie? I thought his mother and coach commented to the N&O (really reliable source, there) that he’s still strongly considering the Pack

I have no inside info, but it doesn’t make sense to renounce your verbal to a school that you were still “strongly considering”.”

VaWolf: he may be doing it just for the free trips and chance to meet with coeds. And the mother comments may be just to avoid scowls in the grocery store.

Noah, anything you can share concerning burning through good will.

    Nothing I can share…

“I know about all the concerns with “Q” and they had to force Sidney to get rid of him.”
    `
I take it from this that there were concerns for “Q”. Lowe said, “So what?” and the “They Gang” stuck a gun to Lowe’s head (or was it a knife to Sid’s throat) to force him to get rid of him.
Rather than get shot or his throat slit, Lowe relented and had “Q” fitted for concrete shoes and “got rid of him.” And the point is, don’t fuck the “They” gang.

I’m not sure why Noah is such a lightning rod. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of State’s athletic history but his predictions are rarely spot-on… just like most other posters.

Noah hasn’t posted anything that shouldn’t be known by anyone who closely follows the Pack.

    1) Lowe is coaching next year.
    2) If we do not make it to the NCAA tourney next season, he may or may not coach the Pack the following season.

Not really going out on a limb on either of those.

Regarding the goodwill comment, he indicated he couldn’t share any further information. Again- not going out on a limb. Anyone with premium could post any of these points.

one item no seems to be bringing up in Lowes favor. His players getting degrees and he keeps close tabs on school progress. And a player projected as NBA talent as in Hickson went as a first rounder.

What team is Hickson on? Cavaliers! What 2 NBA players came to see Curry and State play in Charlotte? JJ Hickson and Lebron James. What NC coach promotes school and has NBA playing and coaching experience? Might not happen but lots of connections there. Of course Greenburg might swallow his pride and make a go of him. Dell’s friend Mugsy might be pushing Wake!

Part of participating in this blog is listening to what certain long-timers say, how they say it, and what they don’t say. If you do that, you can get a pretty good idea of what’s going on, without demanding the equivalent of a geometric proof.

Is it 100 percent accurate? No. Nobody who says anything at all newsworthy is going to be 100%.

And again, a little analysis should be able to separate stuff which is based on fact, reliable info, or just pure opinion.

What I fail to understand is how Fowler isn’t a package deal with Lowe. I said the day Sidney was hired that Fowler should sink or swim with the SS Sidney. I think we all know where that ship is headed.

If Fowler was told to stay out of the way in the football search, and would likely be told the same thing in a basketball search, what’s the point of having him around?

And I can’t say I’m surprised to hear what I’m hearing in this thread. As non-proactive as we have been at NC State, the big dogs have got to be fed up with all the losing. And it’s obvious to me that the Lowe experiment has not succeeded.

Well put, CStanley. . . I’ll go along with that.

when did it become apparent to so many that sid’s job was in jeopardy when the predominant belief was as lond as lee was ad sid would not be fired.quite a turnaround.

how do you know the ‘BIG DOGS’are fed up?

  11. old13 03/27/2009 at 8:16 AM #

BTW the coach who just got previously lowly Mizzouri into the Great Eight for the first time in centuries is in his THIRD year.

when did it become apparent to so many that sid’s job was in jeopardy when the predominant belief was as lond as lee was ad sid would not be fired.quite a turnaround.

How did that work for Amato?

how do you know the ‘BIG DOGS’are fed up?

Because one of the things that people do when they are fed up is bitch a lot. And they do it out loud. With people around.

Back to topic. Curry’s top 3 are Clemson, Duke, Wake. my bet is he goes to Wake. Wake is like Davidson, but in the ACC. Anyone who originally goes to Liberty is probably not going to choice a bigger school like State.

  14. rtpack24 03/28/2009 at 10:14 AM #

Curry to Duke done deal. I did not write name of school in my post Thurs because I did not know when it would be annoucnced.

rtpack24-Where did you here this about Curry?

SFN: We don’t tolerate questioning fan status here. Cut that shit out.

It actually very entertaining to read the Noah (or is it Carnac the Magnificent) lovefest. While I enjoy many of Noah’s posts, as they are very entertaining and often informative, most are conjecture, opinion and comedic analogies, yet everyone seems to take them as gospel. It’s quite funny. He does have a great knowledge of recruiting history, but where that translates to how to run a D-1 basketball program, I do not know.

Can I get a list of actual predictions that have come true??? I noticed he didn’t bother making a prediction back in January about what our ACC record would be. He rarely posts after we win, but posted often after a loss. So again, what has Noah predicted that has come true?? And saying, “DeMarcus Cousins or Derrick Favors ISN’T coming to State doesn’t count”. Who IS coming? And again, I’m not trying to make this personal as I enjoy his entertaining posts, but I think some of you jump on the bandwagon when he rarely, if ever presents any facts or inside knowledge of “our” basketball program.

Where do I question it in those two paragraphs?? Even though I do question it.

Sorry I offended your hero……….outta here.
