Pitchers and Catchers Are Reporting This Week

I was listening to the news with one ear as I worked on the site tonight, and heard that pitchers and catchers are reporting to Spring Training for Major League Baseball.  That of course reminded me of my favorite future New York Yankee, some guy we probably remember very well.  If ever I meet Andrew Brackman in person, I have a photo of him slamming the ball home that I plan to ask him to autograph.  Here’s a shot I got of Brack taking a free throw, one of many I caught of him in action.  If you like the shot, click on it, and a much larger version will open.  Feel free to save and print, if you like.

For a second I thought I’d ended up on FleshBot.

Alpha, a click loads “andrew_brackman_ncsu_small.jpg”, not sure if you meant for it to load “andrew_brackman_ncsu_large.jpg”.

Four years of that dude on the hardwood sure wouldn’t have sucked…

So regarding the new site, is there anything that indicates which one of you posted the initial entry?

There is now, thanks for pointing that out.

Why just one ear? Why not two?

And yea. If Sidney had had Simmons, Brackman, and a healthy Astur that first year . . . .Dang it.

  9. primacyone 02/13/2009 at 10:19 AM #

And what the heck is Larry Harris doing in that photo???

  10. levelsixtyfour 02/13/2009 at 10:26 AM #

Is that a tattoo on his left ankle?

    “Freshman ink

Freshmen Gavin Grant and Cedric Simmons sported new designs on their right arms, courtesy of a Tuesday afternoon trip to Warlock’s, a Raleigh tattoo parlor.

Grant had a large grim reaper holding a basketball on his upper arm, while Simmons showed off a large cross with the message “Only God can judge me” on his right forearm.

As for the other scholarship freshman? Nope, no tattoos for Andrew Brackman.

“My mom would kill me,” Brackman said.”

He always seemed really clean cut. I was surprised to hear that he is reportedly sporting a couple of nipple rings now as well:

    “Be careful sliding, boys

These are not your father’s Yankees. Two players in camp – Andrew Brackman and Joba Chamberlain – are sporting nipple rings.

According to the team rules handed out by Joe Girardi, players are allowed to wear one chain and no earrings while on the field. How the rules apply to body jewelry, I have no idea.”

I would have loved to have him play his full four years of basketball as well. Nipple rings and all.

Brack is best friends with my neighbor and I hung out with him several times this xmas break. He is a very down to earth guy but probably the highlight for me was him showing up with jaba chamberlin in his brand new Hybrid Escalade. In jabas words Brack will be big someday. He enjoys Raleigh and likes to come and stay whenever he isnt required to participate in his sport. most people forget but he was a 4 star basketball player coming out of hs and he was by far a better baseball player.

    GO BRACK!

    Yankees still suck.

That probably would have kept big Ben and Costner from whining so much last season when they lost minutes to Hickson because their minutes would have been limited in Sid’s first season also. I think a decent case could be made that the absence of Simmons and Brackman in Sid’s first year had as much to do with Sid’s lack of success in his second year as the lack of a servicable point guard, or the loss of almost an entire recruiting class.

You can say that a gazillion times and be accurate every time. Adding all three togther, makes the challange seem impossbile.

So, does the baseball team make it to Omaha this year?

  15. Noah 02/13/2009 at 10:41 AM #

The absence of Jerry Stackhouse and Jeff McIness certainly hurt les Robinson

Noah, the Yanks are not my favorite team by any means — I am a lifelong Braves fan, something I inherited from my Grandfather. I am still an Andrew Brackman fan and it will please me no end when the baseball announcers are talking about what a great hoops player he was during his ballgames. That’s great publicity for NC State.

  17. Noah 02/13/2009 at 2:36 PM #

I do not share the same concerns for former NC State players that many people do. For instance, once Rivers was done with NC State, I really stopped caring what he did.

I’m a Carolina Panthers fan. The Chargers can bite me. If Rivers does well, great. If he doesn’t well, great. First game of the year last year, I still wanted Peppers to break Rivers in half.

I pull for the uniform. The people who put it on are just scenery.

It’s impossible for me to just pull for the uniform in pro sports. Actually, the freedom that pro athletes have to move around is what makes watching them so hard for me.

Like, Johnny Damon is awesome when he plays for the Sox, but sucks when he plays for the Yankees…

I’ve pretty much have players that I root for now and their team is secondary.

  19. primacyone 02/13/2009 at 3:12 PM #

I guess I must be the opposite of Noah. I am a big Panters fan, but I was pulling hard as heck for Cotcher and Farve last year and I could not care less about the Jets. Heck, I grew up a Miami fan and have always hated the Jets.

  20. Noah 02/13/2009 at 4:21 PM #

Like, Johnny Damon is awesome when he plays for the Sox, but sucks when he plays for the Yankees…

Damn straight. Jim Rice and Dale Murphy were my favorite players when I was a kid. But when Murphy was dumped on the Phillies and then went to the Rockies, I didn’t give a crap what happened to him. (Rice had the decency and dignity to quit when he stopped being able to hit a curve ball)

If I’m watching highlights and an NC State player does something noteworthy, my wife and I do the Tom Jackson/Chris Berman thing…

    “Jerricho Cotchery….FROM?”

    “NC State.”

But that’s the extent of it.

  21. levelsixtyfour 02/13/2009 at 5:36 PM #

It’s settled then. Rivers, Cotchery, Super Mario and Adrian Wilson all need to come to Charlotte. Can you imagine having both Peppers and Mario Williams at DE?

Man I miss Cam Bennerman. BTW, what is the guy’s name immediately to Harris’ left?
