UNC 93, NC State76

Tar Heel fans, who made the trip to the RBC Center for the first two rounds of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, turned up in pockets. With their light blue and the pink in the N.C. State student section — an homage to Kay Yow — the place looks like a maternity ward.

Just a guess, but that is the most UNC fans in N.C. State’s building for a State-Carolina game in 15 years. A 15-point favorite, the Heels did not disappoint their traveling fan base.

Note: It’s not like the 2003 State-Carolina game at the Smith Center, which was a virtual home game for State, but there’s a good amount of blue sprinkled throughout the building, especially the upper deck, which mostly has been empty this season.

    Nice post b_2005!

As to your point about Roy W, and how he handled that situation with Hanbrough, it would very nice to see someone who decided that their job was to take CHARGE of the BB program and not worry about whose toes he’s stepping on, be it his players/fans/or even his bosses’. I may be wrong, but it sure seems that that type of public discipline is very much discouraged by different groups at NC State, as well as by many of the people who post on this sight.

I could imagine Sidney hearing something like, “Whoa there Coach Lowe, don’t you think you were a little tough on that kid for NOT doing what he was supposed to do in this particular game? I mean afterall, he hasn’t EVER done what he is FULLY EXPECTED to do in any of the other games either, so why in the world would you come down so hard on him now? That must mean that you Sir, are a bad coach. We don’t need that type of stuff around here, we’re above all of that at the great NC State University.”

Listen to Roy’s radio show every once in awhile, he calls them OUT!!!, and he doesn’t think twice about it, be it an All-American senior like Tyler Hansbrough, or whoever. He tells it like it is, funny thing though, I don’t ever remember hearing where anyone is accusing Roy Boy of throwing his players under the bus.

^That’s fair redfred, but Roy is also the first to put blame on himself and his coaching staff (or at least say they need to work harder / do a better job with the kids, etc.) I’ve never heard Sidney say anything like that.

I don’t have too much of a problem with calling players out so long as the coach admits faults as well. It just comes off the wrong way to me, sorta sets a bad example IMO …

To Sidney’s credit however, he is very quick to defer all credit to the players after a victory … so he is consistent at least

My earlier question up there was…

Could most of us fans sit back and watch as Sidney Lowe benched certain players for not playing the way that they are supposed to be playing, and could most fans do it while the opposing team is pulling further and further away?

If the answer is “YES”, that we NC State fans as a whole can tolerate losing, and losing badly, if it is actually of some benefit to the entire team later on, if that’s your answer, then Sidney Lowe is definitely screwing up by playing who he is playing right now.

OTOH, if you’re saying that you CANNOT sit there and watch as we get trounched and beaten by even worse margins than we’ve seen lately, that you’re more worried about the current W-L record, and your answer is a resounding “NO”, then I guess Sidney Lowe is doing exactly you want him to do right now. He’s playing the players who give him the best chance to win RIGHT NOW, and they are doing pretty much the same things night in and night out, and on a very consistent basis. It may not be good or very fun to watch, but one can be assured in the fact that if nothing else, a definite lack of effort will reach out and grab your attention on a very consistent basis with a certain number of these players. It’s undeniable, and the percentages of it happening game after game have been VERY high.

I did notice one player on Saturday who had a half step and some definite lanes to the basket in the open court on several occassions, but who almost always decided that he did not really want to commit to challenging the opposing carolina players in that way. Damn if he didn’t get hot and hit some 3’s in the second half though. If nothing else, he still love’s to shoot that three ball. Afterall, that was his main reason for coming to NCSU in the first place anyway, wasn’t it?

That’s pretty true pup, I’ll give you that.

I’d rather see it out on the BB court, or coming from the coach’s box, face to face with a player D-U-R-I-N-G THE GAME, but I just want to see/hear some REAL EMOTION and PASSION, even if it’s misdirected, coming from somewhere within the Wolfpack BB program about right now.

Par Shooter. I don’t throw out BS. A big reason why Les left as AD was due to the uninformed fan that didn’t appreciate his efforts as coach. Everyone close to Les advised him against taking the NCSU coaching job. Why take the job when everyone knew it would not be long before it was available again soon. It was a now win situation, but Les couldn’t bear to see the program torn down so he took the job and in my view did as great a job as possible given the ciscumstances. Instead of apprecaited the younger generation got older and came to Wolfpack events and wanted to know why our AD was the former Horrible B-Ball Coach that ran our program in the ground.

Les himself never told me any of this, he was too much of a class act to do that. Instead his son told me how it bothered him. Afterwards I had drink and a long talk with Les and let him know their where fans like myself out there that greatly appreciated him for not letting NCSU fall like Indiana currently has and other programs. I know people say our football staduim is the house that Amato built. That is not true, its the house that Les built. Les was not a numbers crunchers instead he could work a crowd and raise some serious money. Les rebuilt our football stdium and put us in the RBC center. He even made the company redo the seats to make sure they were official Wolfpack red colors. All I can say is thank you Les!

Forget it Wolf Dog, some of these folks are thirsty for, will SOAK UP every word, and are only interested in, what our good buddies in the mainstream media have to say. Yep, they’ll read an article and curse the media for plainly not having any ability to see the way things truly are right here and now in this present day and time, and the next you know they’ll hear something little tidbit here and there, maybe even read an historical ‘prespective’ from that very same media source that can’t even get the facts straight today, and they’ll treat that stuff as The Gospel.

    It’s a shame.

It doesn’t even really matter as to what kind of a BB coach Les R truly was, he didn’t stand a snowball’s chance hell in anyway. Or at least by ANY sane person’s standards.

Funny how history DOES really seem to repeat itself, especially when things don’t change and when no one takes it’s lessons seriously.
