State lands two Atlanta-area offensive linemen

NC State’s football recruiting has been on a tear over the last couple of weeks as Coach O’Brien has been adding commitments and quickly moving toward a full class for the year.

It is no surprise that offensive line continues to be a primary need for the Wolfpack’s recruiting; and, tonight State added two three-star offensive linemen from the same school. (AJC article)

N.C. State picked up commitments from offensive linemen Duran Christophe of Woodstock and Camden Wentz of Lassiter Sunday evening.

The commitments were delivered following their official visit to N.C. State this weekend.

“We both loved Louisville, but we actually committed to N.C. State on our way home [from Raleigh],” Wentz said Sunday evening. “N.C. State and Louisville were kind of comparable in where they were headed.

Scout.com ranks Wentz the #11 center in the country among high school seniors; and Christophe one of the top Top 100 offensive tackles. As a point of reference, in addition to an offer from Louisville that both lineman had obtained, Wentz is academically gifted to the point of having an offer from Stanford.

These two offensive linemen join 5-star lineman, Denzelle Good from Gaffney, SC in as Wolfpack verbal commitments. Good is currently 6-6, 325 pounds and is ranked the #5 offensive guard in the country by Scout.com.

These three offensive lineman come into the NC State program on the heels of a strong offensive line class last year that was led by 4-star recruit, RJ Mattes. Mattes was joined by Sam Jones, Andrew Wallace and Zach Allen. A LOT of reports from practice this season have indicated that the coaches love what they’ve seen in Allen, Mattes and Wallace – and that all three will make immediate impacts with significant playing time next season.

In light of how well this year’s offensive line ultimately came together in the last half of the season even after the dismissal of the underachieving Curtis Crouch, an addition of three or four talented bodies only adds to the excitement building around next season. State is scheduled to lose only John Bedics and Meares Green from this year’s offensive line.

I think Denzelle Good is a four star lineman on scout.com not a five star

Nice job. According to the players, they were told there were two spots open for O-lineman. I think we landed a great group of O-lineman. Let’s hope we get Justin Brown. He is a super receiver from MD but is leaning toward Penn St.

I think if we have a great year, TOB will get more of his elite recruits. Its not like we don’t offer them as some insinuate!!! This class is really solid and most of these recruits’ ranking increases over time.

Regardless, I think overall, the talent level TOB is getting is much better than when he was at BC. And all this talk about Butch out recruiting him…you forget Tom beat him last year. Since Tom did not have a full year to recruit his 1st year, they are tied at 1 apiece.

I’m sure Mr. Brown is a good receiver and as equally sure that he’s not coming to this State.

WR is a position currently well positioned. Spencer (couple drops from incredible year)and Grahm will be better, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed for the return of Bowen. Also, I wouln’t be surprised if Geron James doesn’t go all out this off season to set up strong Sr year and turn a Pro scout head or two.

All true efforts for landing future WR recruits begin with ’10 class Tony Creecy out of Durham.

Who is the coaching staff targeting for the last spot on this years recruiting class?

Last spot? I haven’t got total in front of me but to my knowledge atleast three , Washington (RB) and Mageo (DL), Jones (OL) are all set to take classes this spring. That means we can go atleast to 28 if we want to take the NCAA full allotment, leaving room for more then one recruit to still jump aboard.

Atleast one DL has to be taken; Butyn from NC (sign & place presumably) Roberson from GA and Randolph from MD are the top targets.

If we can get a receiver to commit it will be Asa Watson or bust.

I’ll go out on a limb that if there is a third new commit it would be a LB. The staff wants LB Corico Hawkins to change his mind and forget about Clemp. There is Shuey from the Charlotte area that has become a late riser and a Cincy LB who fits the TOB recruiting profile spot on.
