Game Thread: State Opens Against New Orleans In Hoops

Here’s a free audio link of the UNO play-by-play, and the game is on Pack Pass as well.

FINAL SCORE: NCSU 65 New Orleans 59

Note: be sure to scroll to the bottom to see ESPN’s scoreboard.  HT: MillerHighLife on PackPride.

0:14.1 64-59 Gonzalez to the line for two.  First shot: good.  Second shot: no good.

0:29.3 Costner — First shot: good.  63-57.  Second shot: good 64-57

0:29.3 left, 62-57 State to the line for two.  These could ice it.  TO UNO

0:44 62-57

1:10 60-55, State ball.  McCauley fouled on the shot. First shot, swish. Second shot, good.  62-55 60 ticks left.

1:46 State ball, State timeout, 60-55.

2:07 McCauley to the line, makes the first, then misses the second, but State keeps the ball.  60 – 55.

2:26 State 59 – UNO 55.

3:02 59 – 53 State, UNO ball after a turnover.

4:00 57 – 51 Pack.

7:57 Still 48-40 State.  State’s D is forcing UNO to take contested shots and the Pack is still outrebounding the Privateers.  The UNO network is really griping about the refereeing, but that seems to be the way it is on every radio network.  At least their play by play guy tells the score and time, something Gary Hahn ought to learn how to do.

9:16 State 48 – UNO 40 – State takes a :30 TO, UNO to line for 1 and 1.

10:22 State 48 – UNO 38

PACK IS IN THE BONUS the rest of the way.

11:49 NCSU 44 – UNO 38 — State is letting these guys hang around, but UNO has five team fouls and isn’t hitting everything they see anymore.

15:49 NCSU 35- UNO 33 — UNO is coming back to Earth a little, but NCSU is missing their share.

18:30 NCSU 33 – UNO 31

Fells is having a crappy game, IMO.  19:30 he’s called for palming after State has a chance to take the lead.  Then Trevor Ferguson backs it up with a foul.

HALFTIME NCSU 31- UNO 31

1:14 UNO 31 – NCSU 29

State is 9-23 and Costner has 13.

It’s wierd hearing the game being played on Corchiani Court, and UNO’s announcers are talking about it being a “special night.”

2:30 UNO 29 – NCSU 26

5:00 UNO 22 NCSU 20

7:28 UNO 19 NCSU 15

12:55 first half: UNO 9 – NC State 5 in a sloppy game where UNO is getting all the breaks…so far.

You can hear almost all of Sidney’s defensive coaching screams on the radio … It’s pretty sweet! … Lots of intensity in his voice … He is REALLY coaching up the D and it seems to be having a positive impact

    48-38 Pack w/ about 10 to go

Sounds like a bad call against Mays that should’ve gone for a charge …

Edit: 7 team fouls now and we’re up by 8 … timeout called by Sidney and they’ll be on the line for 1+1 coming back from timeout … have to stay out of foul trouble

UNO sounds like they are making their run, but Fergy drops a 2 — 55-46

  7. wufpup76 11/15/2008 at 9:28 PM #

Fergs has hit a couple of huge shots in a row for us

Up by 7 w/ I guess 6 min. to go

    59-51 3:42

  9. BobPack 11/15/2008 at 9:32 PM #

    3 min to go
    59-53

  10. wufpup76 11/15/2008 at 9:33 PM #

D is starting to soften, at just the worst time

Turnover on us … We’re up by 6 pts. 59-53 w/ 3 minutes to play

They have the ball coming back from the last official timeout

Those of us listening to Pack radio have missed a couple of plays, including the McCauley slam a second ago b/c they are staying in timeout too long … great!

Did I hear that Farnold hurt his friggin knee again?

  12. BobPack 11/15/2008 at 9:35 PM #

i think it’s just a precaution on Farnold

  13. wufpup76 11/15/2008 at 9:38 PM #

    60-55 Pack, Pack w/ball

1:45 to play, :14 left on the shotclock

And, yes – Farnold is apparently hurt again … not sure how bad

Did I just hear that we’re playing on “Corchiani Court”? Appropriate.

  15. wufpup76 11/15/2008 at 9:41 PM #

:29 to play, Pack up 62-57 and Costner on the line for 2

  16. packpowerfan 11/15/2008 at 9:44 PM #

glad I’m following here…espn.com has UNO up 60-55. Guess I can’t expect much more from a bunch of fairy tar-mothers.

    OK! 65-59 Pack – FINAL!

    1-0!

I didn’t see the game, but this sounded like a game we would’ve found a way to lose last season … Sounded like a pretty good defensive effort in the 2nd half, which is certainly encouraging

Maybe not the prettiest, but it’s a win, it was on the road, and we’re 1-0!

    GO PACK! Great Day!

Apparently Farnold isn’t too bad off, but I didn’t hear anything defenitive out of the postgame show … Sidney also said that both Javi and CJ Williams got knicked up tonight … CJ did not play in the second half – I thought it was b/c Trevor was playing well – but Sidney said a wrist injury held Williams out

    I don’t think Javi’s injury was specified …

9 game losing streak ended tonight. There’s a positive for you.

^ I swiped MHL’s picture from PackPride and posted it above. Long after their thread is gone we’ll have it in the archives here.

  22. redfred2 11/15/2008 at 10:08 PM #

Sidney, come on, you say the team “played well” tonight? How about some honesty, some tough love, and just admitting that all of you have a long way to go just yet. I wonder if the team was listening in on your post game interview, and I wonder if they feel like they played up to your expectations after hearing those comments coming straight from your mouth?

  23. Alpha Wolf 11/15/2008 at 10:13 PM #

Fred, I see what you are saying, but this was the first game and they did win. They rallied back in the first and took the lead in the second and never looked back. I would have loved a 30 point blowout like everyone else, but this is NC State we’re talking about and I believe that this game ended a losing streak dating back to last year.

They’ll tune up some more, and hopefully Degand will come back healthy and ready to rumble.

Still at the same time, same old Horner, same old Fells. I wonder why God gave Courtney Fells all that physical talent but a low basketball IQ. Doesn’t seem fair.

  24. choppack1 11/15/2008 at 10:16 PM #

To me, we’re off to a decent start. I just want to see this team play hard and look like they’ve been prepared.

    Hopefully, the injuries are minor.

Redfred i agree with you 100 percent. Sid has never been one to publicly say bad things to the team so i hope he is a little harsher behind closed doors.

And i don’t want to hear about the new “up-tempo” offense anymore either. Not this year at least.
