NC State @ Duke gametime

NC State’s visit to Wallace-Wade Stadium to battle Duke on November 8th has been set for a 3:30pm kick-off.   The game will be televised on either ESPNU or ESPN360.

Click here for announcement from the ACC offices.

This may be your only opportunity to catch David Cutcliffe on the Blue Devils’ sideline as the rumors surrounding Phil Fulmer and Tennessee continue to intensify.  (See a little bit in our previous entry.)

We must win this game. Tired of the mediocrity and excuses…a culture that is extremely difficult to change. Once it sets in, as it has over the last 15 years or so, it is increasingly difficult to imagine superiority (at least on our side of the ball)! This culture is less attributable to head coaches, and more to their bosses. Mediocrity is boiling down an entire season to “trying to find something good” about our football and basketball programs…over several years…over several head coaches. A win is good, a loss is bad. Head coaches either deliver wins or losses, ADs (and higher) create the culture. TOB will continue to be an awesome coach, hopefully for us, but the culture has to change at NCS! BEAT DUKE!!!!!

    Mediocrity?

We haven’t been mediocre in YEARS. We suck.

Noah- I have to say you normally have your stuff together and are usually one of the most logical guys on here. But, my heart [which has been repeatedly ripped throughout the last month] says that you are being too harsh on a young squad that has fought hard through injuries all year.

…Although, looking at our records since the RIVERS days…I have to say you are right again.

actually, this is true for all our athletics…I attended or watched 4 state games in four different sports this weekend. The only one we didn’t lose was the Red/White Game…. I could’ve been at the M. Soccer Game that night, but needed to see something encouraging.

Maybe we should play ourselves every weekend…in every sport…

Any opinions on the Red/White game this weekend? I didn’t manage to make it to it this time and stat sheets don’t tell the story in a match where you are playing yourself.

There are good reasons why we suck, and that fact is no indictment of Tom O’Brien.

But we do, in fact, suck. I don’t see how one can argue otherwise.

I really hope we get ESPN-U coverage. I can’t bear trying to follow another radio broadcast, and I really don’t want to have to buy a ticket to watch us lose to f-ing Duke.

Is UT after Cut or Butchy? Either way it might be our last opportunity to see either in the Triangle for a while. Bobby Johnson should be off the short lists now. Steve Logan too. Was he a candidate?
I’m looking forward to the last 4 games. We will have to out score our opponents, but we can do that if we don’t turn the ball over. Let’s get ready for Duke, get a ‘W’ and then go from there.

I’d be shocked if Cutcliffe took the job. He’s been in the SEC caulderon before – and I’d think he’d welcome the relative stability of the Duke job. We’ll see though – methinks the last Saturday may have hurt Bobby Johnson more than it helped David Cutcliffe.

  8. CStanley 10/27/2008 at 9:01 PM #

I don’t see UT going after Cutcliffe, and I really don’t see Cutcliffe leaving Duke after 1 year. That would be kinda rotten.

When a BCS level school’s fans long for ESPN-U coverage (see BJD95’s comment above), it’s almost as bad as being passed up by that network (as is apparently the case now).

Even worse is that we’ve regressed to the point that some of us actually believe we’ll lose to Duke in football.

I for one hope we stay confined to the radio so fans in Waco, Ames, or the state of Washington won’t be able to see an even worse football program than they have right now. And if no tv money makes the AD’s seat hotter, then so much the better for Wolfpack fans who truly care where our entire athletic program is headed right now. Hint: mediocrity is a long way uphill, and basketball is yet to come.

God knows something’s got to change soon in West Raleigh. I’m tired of losing and even more so of being told that I’m just part of the lunatic fringe who just needs to be more patient.

And I’ll be dadlammed if I’m going to pay extra to watch us get beat up on ESPN-U.

61 – I wouldn’t tell you that. But I’d also tell you not to take it out on this team or TOB. This isn’t a case where we were picked to finish in the top half of our conference and collapsed.

As I noted in another thread – every ACC team we played thus far – we lost to year and lost to pretty well.

Now, if you want to go off on Archer – I might give you a little pass…

I have to take exception to the we “suck” comment. Spoken like someone wearing baby blue undergarments.

I know being close doesn’t count but look at Tar heels last year and this year. They lost allot of close games last year. We look to be improving as the year moves forward.

Injuries have hurt for sure. We were already weak at linebacker and it has taken time to piece together the recruiting hole called our OL. Moving guys from defense to offense to make them OL takes time to develop.

Here’s the good news. We have been playing lots of younger players. No doubt the coaching staff is preparing for the future by red shirting and getting younger players plenty of playing time to be ready for next year. And next year we will for the first time since Rivers left have a returning experienced QB that has been productive. Plus lots of returning players that have played. Hopefully we have Baker and Eugene healthy and back next year. If the staff can get any improvement on the OL next year, we could be very good on offense next year.

So my summary is I see a program building for the future, instead of just playing for today which has been the case in our program for way too long. Wake and VT both built their programs this way. It takes patience, a commimtment to developing players, and a fan base that can support a coach long enough to see it through. Not so called NCSU fans sitting around saying we “suck”.

Wolf Dog, I agree with you.

Unfortunately, the past few years, we really have sucked and this one is no exception.

TOB seems to be in control and I’m pretty sure he knows what he is doing. It’s hard to watch them lose, but at least MD was a fun one to watch. I can handle losses like that. Last year was a different story…….What was the score again last year?????

  13. Wolf Dog 10/28/2008 at 8:33 AM #

Thanks packplantpath. I think the biggest difference in our program is going to be the type of recruits that are/will be entering our program. We are getting OL to look at us that never would have before. We are getting kids that will redshirt and want to be developed into better players. We are getting kids that will be here 4-5 years. Our assitant coaches are developing relationships with the players and their families. Our coaches were very close to the BC players. We have not had that in a long time. You cannot develop that atmosphere when its a revolving door for assistants. Taking care of the kids not only in football but in school and life is a staple of this football staff and that is a welcome change that High school coaches will embrace and enhance our in state recruiting.

Will all this lead to more victories? History says it will in the long run, but it may not. I like the path and do hope it works out. Knowing this helps me support the team while we are building.

I lived through the Kiffin/Reed years (5 losing seasons in 6 years, plus one 6-5 year). This stretch of awfulness is now approaching that one. One big difference is that we HAVE managed one win over UNC during this otherwise numbing stretch of futility…

  15. Noah 10/28/2008 at 9:16 AM #

I didn’t say we were never good in the past. And I never said that we’d be bad forever. I’m speaking about the current situation.

    We. Suck. Deal with it.

You pull for your team. I got into baseball in 1983. My favorite two players were Dale Murphy and Jim Rice…so I liked the Braves in the National League and the Red Sox in the American League. When people asked me who I pulled for, I’d tell them and they’d laugh.

Hell, I went to Outward Bound on Penobscot Bay and wore by Red Sox cap and got mocked by a bunch of New Englanders (imagine that today).

You pull for your team. Eventually, it all comes around. Unless you’re a cubs fan.

Noah, I get your meaning so understand mine when I say that nothing about this team sucks. I know that you did not mean it as a personal attack but it was directed at the YTD results in conjunction with years of frustration.

These are young men who are just as disappointed and probably much more then we are with the results so far, but they have played through the adversity of an injury riddled season with their heads held high. They have been outmanned by virtually every opponent, save the two that they have beaten, yet they have never given up. All they have left to play for is their pride. They have a week to lick their wounds, get healthy and play the final four games, all of which are in the triangle. It is up to us to make it a home game atmosphere for them whether we are playing in CF or across the triangle and we should make every effort to be there for them as I know as Wolfpack Nation we will.

We have beaten ECU and now we face the other three D-1 schools in our state and if we can somehow pull of a sweep of them I will be as proud of this team as any we have had in recent memory including the Gator Bowl Champs. If we accomplish the Big Four sweep and also upset Miami, we are bowl eligible. But truthfully, I will be happy with this team if it just beats Carolina once again, and we are certainly capable of doing it, especially if Nate is back to anchor the defense.

    Puh-tay-toe, puh-tah-toe.

They’re bad. They’re most likely going to end up either 3-9 or 2-10. There are all kinds of reasons why they’re bad. But they ARE bad.

I see no reason to try and sugar-coat it. It is…simply what it is.
