Derrick Favors Making Official Visit Next Weekend

N&O: Favors Plans Official Visit to NCSU

Derrick Favors, the top-ranked high school senior basketball player in the country, plans to make an official visit to N.C. State next weekend.

He has trimmed his list to State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Florida State, Kentucky and Memphis.

South Atlanta coach Michael Reddick said N.C. State is the only official visit that Favors has scheduled so far.

From all accounts I have read, Favors wants to make his decision by the early signing date.  Obviously, adding Favors to NC State’s already strong 2009 commitments would go a long way towards building a serious contender in the ACC and nationally.

Good luck Sidney, I hope you are on your A game and can draw upon what NC State means to you as well us folks who KNOW that kids like a Derrick Favors, are meant to play basketball at N C S T A T E!!!

    ^ for a year at least…
If he comes I;d say the chances are pretty high he’d jump for the NBA after one year.

Either way, it is good news for NC State to be getting attention by the #1 recruit. It is a positive meme in the sports news, and it mentions NC State in the same breath as the big boys.

i thought he was suposed to decide before Nov 10. Thats also what the NandO says.

coppertop, NC State’s name is on his list, he’s coming here FIRST, and so far we’re the only one’s that he has an official with. Plus, the chances of him even considering anything like before right now were about as good as George W being re-elected for a third term. I’ll take any and all interest, the short or long term that they give us, and hope that Sidney Lowe, TOB, Avant, or any of the rest coaches at NCSU can drum up similar interest for their programs, from the all of the #1’s out there.

As long as Fowler is kept at a distance…….he can’t screw this up for Sid.

“South Atlanta coach Michael Reddick said N.C. State is the only official visit that Favors has scheduled so far.”

That is worded terribly. It should indicate in the future. It does not include his Official visits to Georgia Tech and UGA which he took on Sept 27 and Aug 28th.

“I’m hoping Derrick will be ready to announce his decision by the start of the fall signing period [Nov. 12].”

So between Oct 17 and Nov 12 he has no visits planned and we will be his final visit unless something changes.

His current list is: Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, North Carolina State, Memphis and Kentucky.

But Kentucky got a 5* center recruit today so Favors will not be going there.

    Good luck, Coach.

if favors comes i say we change the team’s name to the Atlanta Wolfpack, that would give us 4 players, this year and next from one city alone, weird.

Is the coach, Michael Reddick, the famed Michael Reddick who played for Ohio State and then went on to the NBA?

  10. b 10/12/2008 at 5:25 PM #

That was Michael Redd. He currently plays for the Bucks and was a leader on the redeem team.

Fingers, toes, ears, eyes, and testicles all crossed in anticipation of great news.

The Atlanta Wolfpack connection is no weirder than the DeMatha connection that Sloan and V had, so if it works, I’m all for it.

As for “one and done”, you gotta get the “one” and hope for two, three and four!

Sure would like to things start looking up for Wolfpack Athletics!

package5 is correct he has had officials to UGA and GT. Pretty sure it is between us and Tech. Derrick has said all summer he would not sign until April, however I believe that has changed and there is a good chance he will sign in Nov. If anyone sees him please make him feel welcome!

I read that article twice, and I kinda thought that Favors had already made official visits elsewhere when I typed that.

My boo boo. Thanks for setting me straight p5.

Great pub for the program. I hope he has a great time.

I wonder if this kid has chatted with Howell and Brown, all of them living in ATL. This would form a killer class if it happens. I wonder how closely John Wall is following all this..wouldn’t this be an ideal group of complementary players for some serious accomplishments?

  17. one00_proof 10/12/2008 at 9:51 PM #

Favors does in fact know both Howell and Brown, and obviously the two of them are in his ear about going to State. Interestingly enough, there are some rumors going around that Wall is very aware of Favors’ recruitment and that he would commit to State if Favors were to come. All the more reason hopefully we can lock up Favors on his official. Props to N&O for printing the article, we need anyone who sees Favors to let him know how much we would appreciate him coming to State.

I hope the fact that the nations #1 prospect is making an official visit to NCSU shows the national attention Coach Lowe is bringing to our program.

will favors be at the football game thursday night?

  20. Ismael 10/13/2008 at 1:58 AM #

i say get every girl on campus to form the largest one day entourage in the history of NCSU and then repeat said entourage at John Wall’s high school

  21. JeremyH 10/13/2008 at 8:13 AM #

Ismael, I say a hand-selected collection of groupies as a welcome wagon.. but I digress.

  22. Ed89 10/13/2008 at 8:18 AM #

Yes, I believe Favors should be at the game on Thursday night…

  23. Pack92 10/13/2008 at 10:00 AM #

Let him come for 1 year. The attention that 1 year brings will make some of the 3 and 4 year players take a long hard look at NC State. People may blame JJ for some of the chemistry issues last year but his being in an NC State uniform AND his high draft made and will continue to make kids look at NC State. Guys like Favors just keep the ball rolling…

  24. Ismael 10/13/2008 at 10:08 AM #

yes Jeremy, quality control on the groupie front will be paramount.

Pack92 – I think its clear now that JJ was not the problem, it was others, as is now well known, who didn’ want to put in the work and accept roles.

  25. Pack92 10/13/2008 at 10:26 AM #

Agreed Ismael. From everything I saw JJ played his heart out and was rewarded for it. I didn’t mean the blame was fair! Let’s hope that’s all behind us now and Sid will have have them playing like the end of 2007.
