Lorenzo Brown Commits!

NC State’s Basketball program received an important commitment from a key member of the high school class of 2009 when Lorenzo Brown, a 6-4 175 pound a combo guard from Alpharetta (GA) Centennial ended months of speculation and provided the Wolfpack a verbal commitment on Sunday.

Brown is a consensus Top 25 player in the country and averaged 25 points and 9 rebounds per game in his junior season. Brown had various scholarship offers and was also considering Memphis, Texas, UConn and Florida.

Brown plays the point guard position but projects more as a combo guard in college because of his ability to score in a variety of ways. The case for Brown to play the wing at State is made stronger because of the commitment from earlier this month of his good friend, class of 2010’s Ryan Harrow – a pure point guard whose recruitment was recently featured here on SFN.

Brown’s abilities should complement fellow 2009 commit, Scott Wood‘s abilities nicely. Wood is an outside sharpshooting specialist whose height creates mismatches for defenses. Brown’s balance of athleticism, shooting and playmaking ability (either from the point or the shooting guard) will create important balance and valuable spacing on the perimeter.

Coach Sidney Lowe’s recruiting has undeniably hit a very nice gear as all of the Wolfpack’s 2009 and 2010 commitments project to be immediate contributors within the program. The Wolfpack’s future roster projects as follows and indicates a glaring need to land some bigger bodies to play in the post:

does the Lo Brown commit help us any with Favors or Howell?

Tracy Smith should benefit from having another talented big man under the basket with him. Lowe should be telling both of these kids that the 1st to commit gets the spot. of course none of these big men will be worht a damn unless we have a guard who can get them the ball.

What about Jordan Hamilton? Was hearing a lot of buzz about him a while back, but nothing lately. Are we out of the running for him?

Don’t know how but I missed it the first time around, THANKS for answering my question though sf59. Brandon Costner’s stock just went up in my book because of that answer also.

statered, Totally AGREED on this crapola about Hickson!!! The kid played hard, did he need to learn more, sure, but he DID NOT cause the other players to stand around with their fingers up their butts. They did that on their own.

The staff is on a roll right now!!! Hope they know that this like the intitial buzz that we all experienced when Lowe first arrived. Now they need to refocus and “commit” themselves, to work very hard DURING the BB season in order to maintain this level of interest in the program.

As far as worrying so much about one and dones, like I said before, when they aren’t the only player on the team with that type of potential they are naturally a little more humble, they definitely will NOT stand out as much, and they may not be as apt to leave at the very first opportunity. Of course, if Lowe builds a successful program where it’s actually fun to play BB for the Wolfpack of NCSU, then that will go a long way in helping his own cause also.
