The new agreement also calls for improvements to be made to the RBC Center’s basketball facilities and parking lot that were requested by N.C. State University, which plays basketball games at the arena. NCSU will also have more say about how the authority spends $6 million earmarked for future upgrades to the arena.

Rutherford said fans should notice a number of upgrades inside the arena by the beginning of next hockey season. Those improvements will include a new sound system, a renovated club-level restaurant, new flat screen televisions and the ability to pay for food at concession stands with credit cards.

I hate hockey…but as an NC State fan, this is good news. Our sweetheart deal continues.

Yes, good news indeed … even though I’ve been to a total of 1 hockey games at the ESA/RBC (I did have a relatively good time though, considering I know almost nothing of the sport other than “goal!” or “icing!”)

    Wolfpup! You don’t know “highsticking”????

Pay with a credit card you say? What a novel idea. Welcome to life in the fast lane!

Never been to a hockey game but from the cheep seats the RBC was not a very enjoyable experience (and I’m not talking about the quality of play.) Since I’ll never be a LTR holder, guess it won’t get any better for me. I may go back for the atmosphere but I can see far more of the game on TV.

I like hockey and I’ve enjoyed watching the canes but they charge too much for tickets and parking. Up until the 2006 playoffs, we were allowed to park in the fairgrounds lots across Trinity road for free. The timing of their price hikes couldn’t be worse. Their performance the last 2 seasons doesn’t merit a price hike. As for being able to use credit cards to buy concessions, that speaks volumes about the price of the concessions.

When it comes to NCSU games, Reynolds is still the best venue.

Reynolds is a myth. There are 3X times as many good seats in RBC than Reynolds ever had. Reynolds was an elongated box with most of the seats in the end zones.

Now the top tier at RBC is up there because the center holds 7,000 more people than Reynolds. Reynolds had about 4,000 decent seats. RBC has about 12,000 good seats.

The 3rd floor should be shut down for basketball. Absolutely the worst seats for a basketball game, though not awful for hockey. I imagine being up there must be like trying to watch basketball on the upper level in a football dome. I’ve sat up there only twice for basketball and watched the entire game on the scoreboard. I will never sit up there again even if offered a free tix for the UNC game.

I would much rather be in my luxury suite (errr living room) where I have fully stocked fridge and wet bar and don’t have to hassle with parking, not to mention a much better view on a better screen.

I don’t think I could disagree more with Primewolf when he says…

“Reynolds is a myth. There are 3X times as many good seats in RBC than Reynolds ever had.”
