SFN Voted “Best ACC Blog” of 2007

Many thanks to Rocky Top Talk for their kind words:

Continuity? Check. Their archives go back to December, 2004, which is the equivalent of being older than Adam in the college football blogosphere.

Community? Uh-huh. Comments on front page posts regularly reach into the mutiple scores. Any blogger who’s been around for awhile knows how much time and effort it takes to foster that kind of interaction.

Coolness? Affirmative. I just wasted fifteen minutes playing around with their archive navigation system. The whole “this is how many words I wrote and this is how long it should take you to read it” thing is nifty and could come in handy when trying to decide whether to dive deeper on a front page story, but I have to admit that I could do without the pressure of knowing precisely how many seconds it should take me to read 220 words. Hey, I wonder what my forty time is?

Content? Yep, and with humor.

This honor recognizes not only our work, but also the quality and quantity of the SFN community. That’s well deserved – we couldn’t do this without you, from the most rabid commenter to the most steadfast lurker.

It says alot about you and all of Wolfpack nation that we could earn this kind of recognition, despite 20 years of nearly constant futility on the field. If we weren’t providing a top-notch product, who on earth (besides us die hards) would even notice an NC State blog? It’s not like NC State has done anything nationally relevant during most bloggers’ lifetime, or at least conscious memory. Again, quoting Rocky Top Talk:

Competent team? Uh, no, and that’s what makes StateFans Nation’s consistent quality all the more laudable.

This recognition comes from a wide range of national and sectional blogs, mostly outside of our geographical area. Do check out Every Day Should Be Saturday, an excellent national college football blog (and lead sponsor of the sports blog awards). SFN was the ACC runner-up in 2006, and we are honored to have climbed to the summit in 2007.

It has been quite a ride for SFN in recent months. As you probably recall, SFN was just profiled in the NC State alumni magazine as well. We thank you for your readership, contributions to the site, and for clicking on those ads so we can pay the bills. Whatever the future brings for Wolfpack athletics, we look forward to chronicling the good, the bad, and the ugly for years to come.

I’m glad to see the recognition. It was a travesty SFN didn’t win last year.

congrats. Although the level of reader participation here is equally indicative of the depths to which the “Idiot Boards” aka PackPride have descended…I haven’t been there in months.

Love the site. Congratulations on the much deserved recognition. I have visited this site for a couple years now and this is my first time responding. Keep up the great work for all us fellow wolfpackers.

Congratulations on a job well done. I really appreciate having a site to go to as great as this one. I know the hard work, long hours and money you have invested. As a true State fan, I appreciate it and feel great whenever you get acclaims.
Keep up the fantastic job. It is appreciated!

Too bad I am in Texas. There are only few baby blues he can bark/tear:)
    So the market is small.

    But I seriously need advice.

    Enjoy reading your blog too.

Congrats SFN. I have been here for about 4-5 years now, and it is obvious the time and effort put into this to create a quality product. The 5 or 6 that regularly start the blogs all deserve kudos for a job well done. It used to be 95% of the contributors here are an asset, but I am sorry to say that percenatge may have dropped. I think that is a measure that more people have found this site, which speaks volumes for your work as well.

I still worry about those internets and eBays though, got to watch them. Nothing but trouble.

that SFN, they just keep choppin wood in their daytight compartment.

Congratulations SFN! I’m one of those steadfast lurkers who occasionally posts. I come here all the time to live and breathe me some Wolfpack. It’s a great online community of like-minded (for the most part), passionate Pack fans. One day I hope to relive the glory days of my youth and be talking about national contenders and ACC champions. Our passion for Wolfpack athletics will have to carry us until then. Thanks for giving us a place to hang out and be passionate.

Congrats! This is the first website I go to every day. I believe that is all that needs to be said.

    To SFN:
I’m sure you’ve already thought of this, but how about using this blog and your influence to start a grassroots movement to remove the biggest barrier to success in NC State athletics: Lee Fowler. The more you write about him and the more I learn about him, hear stories from people who have had personal contact with him, the more I realize we’re never going to get anywhere with Lee Fowler at the helm.

I realize that money is the biggest factor in having influence, but I also believe that the very thing he disdains (the internets) could be the very thing that helps to unseat him. Who knows, maybe Wendell Murphy even lurks here.

I’m behind you. Since SFN is the #1 blog in the ACC, let’s take the next step and use the power and influence of the people to take out the biggest hindrance to our success!

Congratulations SFN. This is a well deserved, overdue recognition. Thanks for all of the hard work and the constant improvements. Thanks for the moderation as well. As a lifelong State fan, I check this site throughout the day to keep up with all that is Wolfpack, and I post when the spirit moves me. Go SFN and Go Wolfpack!

  14. E-RO 03/07/2008 at 6:37 PM #

Congrats, you guys DEFINATELY deserve it.

  15. graywolf 03/07/2008 at 7:08 PM #

    Well deserved!!

  16. SeaWolfZ 03/07/2008 at 7:24 PM #

Though I can no longer bear the pain of experiencing Wolfpack sports in person or on TV, I do keep up with them through SFN. Like an alcoholic going to an AA meeting, I can follow State basketball and football here without shame and embarrassment. I know all too well what othe people are thinking when I walk into a room or go out in public. Their sideways glances and whispered words: “He’s a State fan.” When I sit alone on the front porch after a State ball game, I can feel the eyes of the Carolina fans across the street, their blue flag moving in the breeze. But they dont come over to speak. I admit I fell off the wagon last year. I thought I could handle it. But I know now it is a long road to recovery. And SFN will help me along the way. You truly provide a public service. Congratulations on the well deserved recognition.

  18. DixieBoy 03/07/2008 at 9:28 PM #

Congrats! Y’all deserve it! It’s nice for us to actually win the ACC in something!

  19. highstick 03/07/2008 at 9:52 PM #

Saw this earlier this afternoon, but couldn’t respond then. This is fantastic! Even though a bunch of us are lunatics, fight and disagree, this is the most “sane” and analytical of the sports blogs that I view from time to time.

Great work! Keep it up and maybe one day we’ll have us another champsionship team to go along with the championship blog!

Glued to tiny screen on a phone by day. Sitting in front of a bigger screen at night. The address remains the same(SFN). I never fathomed the meaning of addiction until I stumbled upon this site a couple of years ago. When is SFN going to offer the HELP Hotline for all the addicts like myself just like the Lottery has the Gambling Hotline? Maybe we’ll have to Wait till Next Year for that. LOL.

Congrats SFN for being #1. Keep up the good work.

  21. Rick 03/08/2008 at 7:13 AM #

All of the participation on these boards even when we completely suck tells you how passionate/psychotic NCSU fans truly are.

I tell people you have to be part optimist and part masochist to be a State fan.

BTW, Duke and UNC may be playing for the ACC championship tonight but we got the best blog phhhhttttt

    Praying for a tornado

    the glass slipper fits.

  23. Lunatic Fringe 03/08/2008 at 7:34 AM #

Congrats…well deserved. SFN has kept me sane during one of the most forgettable years in NCSU athletics history.

^^Perhaps that is an idea for a future post like VH1s show…”Best Week Ever”.

  24. PacknSack 03/08/2008 at 10:09 AM #

This site has a nice beat and I can dance to it, so I give it an 85. Now where is the dance line forming?

You’re the leader of the lunatic fringe. Keep up the good work, maybe we can bring about some changes, but I’m happy with a place to vent with people who feel the same way without all the profanity laced tirades and personal attacks.

  25. WolfInVolCountry 03/08/2008 at 10:42 AM #

    Kudos also SFN.

I live in a land that bleeds Orange.

I appreciate the red-colored rope of State and ACC commentary that you throw my way.

    You are the “Brickyard” best!
