Cowher Downsizing, Staying in Raleigh

There have been some weird rumors regarding Bill Cowher in recent days; many of which have been perpetuated by the website linked here.

The N&O addressed the topic directly from the horse’s mouth this morning.

Bill Cowher is moving – to another house in Raleigh.

Cowher put his 7,400-square-foot North Raleigh mansion on the market — with an asking price of $2.65 million — igniting Internet rumors of a new gig for the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach.

Cowher told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, howerver, that he’s selling his house because it’s too big and he’s building a smaller one, two miles from his current location.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Cowher told the Post-Gazette. “I’m staying here.”

maybe he can move into the AD’s office?

  2. EverettBeez 03/05/2008 at 10:16 AM #

Cowher sounds sweet as an AD name, but I want the guy from App – someone with experience at the AD job. Make Cowher Chancellor.

    can he coach BBall?

  4. DRW 03/05/2008 at 10:18 AM #

black: If he did, I’d bet the team would be tough physically and mentally.

if he was the ad, there’d be a plaque on his desk saying “the buck stops here” with a picture of his chin.

Would one of you realtors please put a For Sale sign in Lee Fowlers front yard.

  7. Rick 03/05/2008 at 10:45 AM #

I would prefer Cower’s chin be the AD over Fowler.

shhhh. his chin could be listening right now. Bills chin hears ALL!

DRW- My point as well and an upgrade at least there would be some effort

I’m guessing Cowher will hold out one more year to see if Johnny Fox can hold on to his job at Carolina. This way his family can stay in Raleigh and he can work in Charlotte and still be home most any night.

Charlie Cobb should be the NCSU AD – and SOON! He’s a grad with a successful track record that demonstrates his capabilities.

Corn on the cobb would be an upgrade from LF

I laughed when I read the rumors, because I had already been told the deal by a couple of folks. The first has done some work on both Cowher homes, and is a big State fan. His wife and mine are friends and they came over to the house and he told me all about it months ago.

Is he already selling the one in North Ridge or just moving into it now?

If it’s still a 5 hour round trip, I doubt he does this during the NFL season. Those guys typically work about 80 hours a week.

    Why do you care ?

  17. branjawn 03/05/2008 at 12:34 PM #

5 hours? Not by plane. What is Charlotte, 150 miles by plane? Most props planes go about 150mph. So, two hours plus driving, 2.5 hours a day? Of course, he would probably spend 2-3 days at a time in Charlotte. Anyways, I think we all the odds of him coaching the Panthers is pretty low.

I like him for the State AD job though. That makes all kinds of sense.

put Cobb as the AD and Cowher as the Assistant AD to learn the ropes to eventually turn it over to him. regardless of what happens, LF has to go.

Chuck Norris only wears a beard because his chin is intimidated by Bill Cowher’s chin.

  20. McPete 03/05/2008 at 2:11 PM #

    “Cowher as the Assistant AD”

-i bet he’d sooner manage a Jiffy Lube. The guy is a super bowl winning head football coach in the NFL. why would he be interested in this? the guy is gonna coach again.

  21. Noah 03/05/2008 at 3:05 PM #

During the season, head coaches in the NFL pretty much live in their office.

If he takes the Panthers job, he’ll get a condo or something in Charlotte. He won’t live in Raleigh during the year.

Fox lives in Florida in the offseason.

Bring in Cobb as AD and Cowher as assistant to lern the ropes to take over? Cobb is 40 or so, Cowher is early 50’s. Makes no sense. If you bring Charlie in, no reason to have someone older under him, and I personally dont think BC would work under CC.

Not sure why he bought the mansion – and he bought a property in North Ridge on the golf course that I heard he was going to knock down and rebuild there. Great lot on #18 on the Oaks. A lot of those houses are being knocked down for new amenities since most were built in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The only thing is that is more than a couple miles from the mansion. I don’t know if he is planning on selling the North Ridge and building closer to the mansion or if “2 miles” was just hyperbole. I will check with my sources.

I think it was 3 years or so ago on this Blog that the constant ‘prediction” and wish was for Cowher at Coach. And now its Cowher at AD.

Whether either of the choices are wise, the only thing that is most apparent is that our current AD is like a person minding the country store while the mega marts are being built nearby that will put the country store out of business. We need an experieinced AD with a vision, an eye for talent, and the character to control the donors who think they know better.

Do any of you know Charlie Cobb? Believe me he would be an unmitigated disaster as an AD at NC State. What exactly are you basing your “success” arguements on. ASU’s football is better yeah, because the offense was changed from “3 yards and a cloud of dust” to a spread option offense. Cobb had nothing to do with that. The success of the football program is what has brought excitment to ASU, not Cobb. He certainly didn’t hire Jerry Moore.

  25. RAWFS 03/07/2008 at 11:31 AM #

Six, I’m curious, why do you say that about Charlie Cobb? He seems to have a lot of respect amongst his peers, which to me is always a good indicator.
