what was the difference between the Under Armour Game and the Army All American Bowl? Just proves that out of the thousands of athletes in high school, recruiting isn’t exactly an exact science. One star, Two star, 5 star, is it possible to extrapolate good high school athletes will make good college athletes? 6 qbs in the All American game and 6 qbs in the Under Armour out of how many high school qbs? Now Glennon look good. But would he have looked just as good in the Army All American Bowl? What made the difference to what game you played in? If there is one thing that I have always been interested in and at the same time most baffled with is recruiting. And what goes into the ranking system. Recruiting seems like the stock market, just as good a chance of throwing a dart at your choice and it working out as knowing each players stars and choosing that way. Hopefully Glennon puts on some weight and looks as good for the pack as he did today.

He looked like he will definitely start or be our back up next season, depending on Russell Wilson. Great arm, looked very poised in the pocket, moved out of the pocket well, completed some passes while on the run, and important for us he looks to complete passes down the field. His numbers did not justify his performance, they dropped 3 passes, so he should have been 8-12. If he would have played the majority of the game the RED team would have won, keep that in mind! Only problem I see is that he is really skinny and needs to put on weight, to be durable enough to last the entire season with the offensive line we have right now. Brandon Barnes also played in the game as RB, didn’t do much, but didn’t get the ball much either. The Wolfpack football future looks to be very bright with the coaches we have and the recruits we are getting. If we can steal some players on signing day it will be a great start for Tom O’Brien! We will be in the same position in 3 yrs as BC this season if he continues this success recruiting a solid core of players! Can’t wait til see what happens in the near future! GO PACK!

if you think glennon is backup material for next season, then redshirting would make more sense. i think he’ll still redshirt since he’s not enrolling early and will not be present for spring practice. he threw a very nice out route that was 15-20 yards from the line of scrimmage and very accurate. not sure any of our current qbs could have thrown it better. but more than any of our opinions, the three announcers saw him all week in practices and said he was the best pocket passer of the qbs. and if you want to know if these qbs are any good, just look at their commitments. FSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Clemson, etc. all these guys are considered elite, and Glennon still distinguished himself.

Hey, hey, more great OFF season sporting news, just in time to get our spirits up again. This ought to keep us Wolfpack faithful hopeful and dangling on a thread for awhile anyway.

I believe, I mean I’m pretty sure, I mean hope, rather I pray, that TOB is the man I think he is and he’s here to do what I believe, think, hope, pray, he is.

No worries, Redfred. By the time two-a-days start late next summer, Glennon will have a golden arm, a sharp wit, a way with the ladies, and a politicians grin. The unreal expectations placed on his head will be fit for a king. When he’s thrown the wolves we’ll be screaming for TOB’s head for not playing the “more experienced” Evans or Beck… ’cause that’s how us Pack fans roll.

    LOL GA!!!

I saw him today and some in the televised practices that they had on the U the other day. From a passing standpoint – he has vastly superior arm to Daniel Evans. He’s more accurate than Beck. Even on the last drive, he had some good passes.

What impressed me most was a pass on the final play of the game that he didn’t complete: It was 4th down, and the D brought pressure, forcing him to get rid of the ball. Rather than throwing it away or trying in vain to run away from the sack or throwing it wildly towards the sideline – he threw a high ball in the middle of the field that a teammate should have caught. To me, this shows an awareness that I haven’t seen from a QB from Rivers – and that you don’t see from QBs in our conference. Sure, it was just one play and it’s possible I’m reading too much into it, but I’m an optimist.

Some additional info – Glennon has an absolute cannon for an arm. His passes get there in a hurry and they are where they are supposed to be. He made throws today that I haven’t seen an NC State QB make since Rivers. Also, he had some good receivers – they made some plays too.

He looked strong and we should all have smiles on our faces.

Great athelete, great kid, and knows what being a member of the Pack is all about.

These are the kind of players we want our coaches to recruit, but give him the opportunity to grow into our winner. He looks pretty damn close already.

Boy does he ever have a cannon. Almost in the same league as Jason Campbell’s arm.

If there is one thing that I have always been interested in and at the same time most baffled with is recruiting. And what goes into the ranking system.

I have come to the point where I ignore the large majority of FB “recruiting” talk. After someone commits to the Pack, then I am interested in how he is doing/did in HS or these all-star games.

Ignore the problems with the ranking systems and assume that someone comes out with a perfect one…what difference would it make? The recruiting classes don’t play anyone…they join the team and play. So exactly what do you get out of ranking the recruiting classes?

Now we won’t get perfect ranking systems…but the ones we do have are good enough…..not perfect, but good enough. There is a general trend between recruiting “stars” for a class and success on the field….especially for the skill positions. Stars aren’t necessarily a good predictor for any one kid….but do a reasonable job when looking at larger numbers.

Looking at the weaknesses on the field and the current verbals, I’m happy with the number of OL, LBs, and obviously Glennon at QB. I’m not very optimistic about next season….but I’m still confident that TOB and staff will continue to improve the FB team.

Your wrong…he already has a golden arm, a sharp wit, a way with the ladies, and a politicians grin. The unreal expectations already placed on his head are fit for a king.

Clarksa and GAWolf – I understand what you are saying about expectations. I’m hoping that we’re able to redshirt him next year. After seeing him play today AND seeing him practice the other day – if Wilson doesn’t pan out, I think we’ll see him play.

This ain’t a case of Marcus Stone – whose senior #s were mediocre – and to the best of my knowledge, never looked great in a spring game or an all-star game like this. This kid impressed the coaches in practice AND in the game. You can go ahead and be excited about this kid in the same way that you were excited about JJ Hickson, Mario Williams, Andre Brown, Tony Baker, and Demario Pressley.

Sure, recruiting is an inexact science. However, some prospects are better than others. Some have a higher probability of success than others. I think that Glennon is probably the highest rated QB we’ve had come here in my memory. Is there a shot things won’t work out the way that we’re hoping – definitely. However, given our staff, his size, arm strength, and accuracy – I think there’s a good chance for success w/ this kid.

I watched the skills competition and he by far had the best arm, accuracy and endurance. He can knock guys down with that arm.

  14. CarnifeX 01/06/2008 at 12:16 AM #

He is JJ Hickson of Football.

  15. Lunatic Fringe 01/06/2008 at 10:15 AM #

He appears to be pretty effortless with his play and has a nice calming demeanor (in and out) of the huddle. I would like to see him redshirt, but nice to know we have him as an option. I liked having Terry Gannon call the game as well. 🙂

  16. RAWFS 01/06/2008 at 5:26 PM #

I’m just hoping that this ‘next great NCSU QB’ lives up to the hype. It’s been since Philip played that we’ve had a reliable signal-caller.

  17. CStanley 01/06/2008 at 10:16 PM #

So does he have “IT”? Cuz that’s what we’ve been missing since PR left. We got a lot of QB’s with some talent, a couple with some brains, several with good arms…but none of them with “IT”.

Hope Glennon has it. If so, start him next year, put all those other chumps on the bench. I don’t care how old he is.

  18. PAPacker 01/07/2008 at 10:09 AM #

He had great touch on about every pass I saw. He had once pass of probably 45 yards to Julio Jones which was a tight spiral, great arc that dropped right in where Jones could have caught it. As the announcers noted, some of the incompletes that Glennon had were due to receivers underrunning their routes because they figured Glennon wouldn’t be able to get the ball to the spot (because your average hs qb can’t) then the ball was exactly where it should be and they weren’t. The thing I liked most was that he attempted to get something out of every play yet without forcing balls or trying to make plays that were not there. It has been said on sfn many times that if we could just stop killing drives by making bad throws, we would be a dramatically better football team. Glennon, at least in this game, demonstrated the ability to make solid decisions.

  19. Noah 01/07/2008 at 2:05 PM #

If he sees one minute of game action next year, we might as well write off the season because it will mean that three or four guys in front of him have been killed.

True freshman don’t start at QB for winning teams. And no, I don’t count Rivers since he enrolled in January and was basically a r-Fr.

Mitch Mustain and Jimmy Clausen were the best players in the country as a senior in HS and they were both horrid as true freshmen.

  20. ncsubch2000 01/08/2008 at 9:06 AM #

I agree with Noah, the learning curve for a QB is too steep for a freshman adjusting to college life. Hopefully, we can get by with what we’ve already got (Wilson?) and redshirt Glennon, get him ready physically and mentally, and have him ready to start the first game of his RFr year.

I don’t ever want to see D. Evans again. My expectation is for an improved Harrison Beck or Justin Burke. Maybe Wilson will surprise me.
