SFN Moves To A New Server…

UPDATE 3 (Monday, 11:35am) Answers To The Comments Below The Article

Links:

I agree about the light blue links and will fix that.  I don’t care for it either, but I want to hear from the guys that actually own the site what their preference of colors is.  Me, I would prefer the actual red color of NC State.  Expect that to update over the next few days.

DNS Troubles over Saturday night and part of Sunday:

Sorry for the folks that couldn’t get here for a while, but that’s the nature of DNS — the phone book of the Internet, if you will.  Basically, when an name/IP number change is made, it has to “propogate” from one DNS server to the other around the world.  Each of us that have different providers are using different DNS servers.

The Site Needs to be configured:

As for the statefansnation.com vs. www.statefansnation.com error, that’s an little one that I will need to fix this evening when I get home from work…should take no more than 30 seconds.  Sorry about that, but the to-do list gets pretty blurry in the middle of the night when you are on your 10th Diet Coke and still quite p/o’d about losing to ECU.  My bad completely.

Thanks to everyone for pointing out the problems and errors.

UPDATE 2 (11:3oam): Link To Rest Passwords (For Users Who Never Got One)

If you tried to register to the site in the past couple of weeks and never received a password, you can click here:

SFN User Login

Look to the bottom, and click the “Lost Your Password” link.  You will be asked for the user name that you registered with, and the e-mail address that you used when you did.  Enter both of those and then check your email after a minute, you should have an email from us giving you the info you need.

As below, please report problems to wordpress (at) statefansnation (dot) com ….

UPDATE 1 (11:14am): Registration Issues Resolved

E-mail registration seems to be working properly now. I have tested several accounts and received emails pretty quickly.

If you have registered and not received your registration, please let us know. The address is wordpress (at) statefansnation (dot) com

ORIGINAL MESSAGE (4:45 am): Site Migration Completed

Good morning, everyone, a little site news:

I’ve pulled an all-nighter and migrated Statefans Nation over to a larger, faster server with four times more memory that will hopefully make the outages that have been happening from time to time a thing of the past. Basically, SFN had outgrown the old machine and it was unable to handle the load that happened after games and other times when everyone came here for news and opinion. You may have seen the “cannot make a database connection” errors, hopefully for the last time. While I was at it, I did an upgrade to WordPress, the base software for the site, along with upgrading the web server, PHP and the database.

If by chance you made a comment to a story here between 1:18am and about 1:45, it may have been missed when the transfer was occurring. Check and see if this applies to you.

Finally, we still have some work to do — I have noticed that some of the monthly archives are looking a little strange in Firefox 2.0, both of which I will be tackling and solving over the next few days. If there’s anything else that you see that’s out of place, please let us know.

WOW! Opening the site this morning certainly substituted for that first jolt of caffeine. Thanks for your hard work.

One small nitpick so far. The top header no longer links you back to the main page.

^ It’s one of those little details that I need to take care of. Thanks for pointing it out.

VaWolf82: the clickable header is now working. 🙂

I just saw that and opened this thread to tell you “good job”….but I don’t want to encourage braggards! 🙂

Glad to finally be here. Comcast didn’t like the old server.

I logged in at 2 in the morning or so last night, and didn’t get anything! I thought I’d lost y’all. So glad it was just an up grade.

One problem – Everytime I click the link it takes me to a particularly sadistic S&M site where hopes are raised, and then dashed in cruel and disheartening way.

Would a Fowler-etamy take care of that?

    hey guys …

just an FYI – after your server move today, i could not access the site for whatever reason … everytime i would click on the site link from my IE “favorites” menu or i would do a Google search for ‘statefansnation.com’ the link was broken and i received the following message:

    “WordPress
There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.”

ultimately i had to type in http://www.statefansnation.com and reset the link in my “favorites” menu … i’m not sure if perhaps a reference or pointer may have gotten changed but figured i would let you know

i am thinking the comments were a little on the light side today (given the greenville debacle) and didn’t know if any others may have experienced similar troubles in getting to the site

then again, i may be completely stupid 🙁 … please forgive if this is irrelevant

thanks as always for running a great site and hosting an awesome community

i prefer red or darker blue links… NO light blue.

Good job. One question, I noticed that the main page no longer shows how many comments are posted by each article. That was a helpful feature to know if anyone had posted since my last viewing. Will that feature be added back in?

^Never mind. I this has moved to the top of the page.
