Washington Metro Offensive player of the year. Congratulations Mike! He looks like he makes good decisions and is able to have an excellent touch on the roll out. The video of him running reminds me of Randall Cunningham. Man what long legs.

I’m extraordinarily doubtful about a true freshman coming in and starting right off the bat. It’s happened before…but it usually ends up badly. Philip Rivers even said that had he not enrolled early, he would have been a flop right out of the gate.

I remember Peyton Manning as a true freshman and it wasn’t pretty. That was the year that Tennessee went through about three different QBs…

I’d rather have a losing season and save Glennon for when he’s ready.

But yes, if he comes in, sets the world on fire and IS ready, that would be nice too!

If your not competing in spring drills I think it’s a huge mistake for a QB to start in the fall. I really see us redshirting Glennon and I’m hopeful that Russell Wilson will grab the starting job in the spring. I dont care that he’s shorter than your typical QB. One only has to look at Tood Reesing at Kansas and Matt Grothe at Southern Florida for successful shorter QBs this year.

If he’s clearly the best guy early on, you play him b/c it’s a sets a bad example not to do so.

If he’s equal or lacking in any way, redshirt him and play the older guys. This will be year 2 and the TOB honeymoon will still have the fans carrying small sticks. Use the latitude to do what is best for years 3-5.

The best thing would be for Mike Glennon to redshirt and NCSU take their chances with Wilson and Burke. Sorry, but Dan Evans has had his shot and has come up small when it counted the most.

No matter what, I am happy that there is no way Evans will be the starting QB in 2009 – which is the first year we can have any sort of expectations for success.

  7. Noah 12/20/2007 at 1:10 PM #

I actually think there’s a very good chance Evans starts…which worries me.

  8. partialqualifier 12/20/2007 at 1:11 PM #

I don’t care who the QB is so long as he plays well and doesnt throw 100 interceptions in the Red Zone…”ahem”!!!

Noah: Don’t worry, last year’s 4th string QB is next year’s savior. Russell Wilson in 2008!

My prediction: Evans gets the nod at the beginning of the season, gets creamed by some DL and is injured by the 4th game, Wilson gets his opportunity and has about the same amount of success (or a lack there of) as Evans.

I’m afraid Evans will start at least early on, too. Though I’m hopeful his taking honors on Senior Day was an indication he plans to move on. He may simply be the best option, as horrifying as that thought is.

Glennon should RS, and the reason is our O-Line and WR’s are going to be young next season. Why get Glennon beat-up when we can let him benefit a year later from the improvement on the Line? If Wilson is a playmaker, and can avoid pressure, I’d play him. If he is just a smallish system QB, we should play Burke or Beck.

If they are all pathetic, then play Glennon later in the year. A QB needs confidence, so devastating him as a freshman behind a porous line may have repercussions thru his career. Next year we will be a little more competitive, but we are still young and lacking proven talent on both lines. If we get back to a bowl next year, TOB will be COY to me.

i cant believe we have been this many years without even serviceable QB play.. it is simply amazing! what the hell was Chuck doing? does that mean that Chuck never ever recruited a Div 1 QB capable of playing in the ACC? (this assuming it was the previous coaching staff that got Rivers to come.)

Of all these linemen TOB is signing, are any of them expected to be able to contribute early on, a la Jake Vermiglio?

  14. VaWolf82 12/20/2007 at 3:17 PM #

Wait and see how many JC and prep players are signed. If any lineman are ready to contribute early, they will most likely come from this group.

  15. JimValvano 12/20/2007 at 4:04 PM #

Vermiglio was a bit of a surprise. I don’t think he was that highly touted…so…we’ll see.

On another note. I found an interesting article on espn.com about the head coaching search at WVU.

I think Glennon should split time at QB from the first game and start as soon as he is ready. We need a QB worse than any other position. We’ve had QB’s split time as freshmen and I believe Tebow did the same at Fla. Not saying Glennon is another Tebow, but good is good and we need a good QB.

Out of potential OL who have verbally commited so far, only Sam Jones could assumed as a potential RS burner.

There is still a ways to go until the official signing day, but I am a little concerned so far about the OL recruiting situation. Wallace was a lifetime Wolfpack fan and grew up around Charlotte, and he has to be seen as the huge recruit so far as OL go. Allen is a under the radar guy, one OL is from Canada, and Jones was originally an Amato recruit.

So where is all the love for TOB and his staff in regards to developing OL and putting them into the NFL? We have such great facilities, wouldn’t massive OL recruits want to pair great OL coaches with great weight rooms and facilities? Apparently not.

I’m being too critical, and far too soon, I know. It’s just, we shouldn’t don’t care if it’s Evans, Beck, WIlson, Glennon, Spuds McKenzie, or a tiny marian under center of a another sub standard OL. Let’s face the facts, our OL here and now are pretty bad. If TOB can’t convince great prep players to come in and start off real close to the top of the depth chart then we may have problems.

“Noah: Don’t worry, last year’s 4th string QB is next year’s savior. Russell Wilson in 2008!”

I certainly hope so – we know what Evans can and can’t do.

I’ll be watching the Panthers game w/ interest this week – their 4th string QB looked better than the 2nd and 3rd qbs this year.

    Anyone but Evans.

  21. packbackr04 12/21/2007 at 8:01 AM #

i like evans, he just loses more games than he wins… and that is not good.

  22. Primewolf 12/21/2007 at 9:53 PM #

Glennon will sit, unless he is superman and has no competition at all from our other 4 quarterbacks.

I hope we have a decent Oline in 2 years.

SFN: I disagree re Glennon. I think that both Russell Wilson and Glennon will be given major opportunities to shine. Glennon will not come in and immediately be the starter, but he will not be relegated to the sitting (and therefore redshirtting) unless someone else clearly beats him out (or if we take a JUCO QB who is ready to play).

    * Burke’s role on the team is to develop and be prepared to play one day in a couple of years if we have injuries to the guys ahead of him.

*Daniel Evans is what Daniel Evans is. You’ve seen what he can do…and, he can’t do much else.

*Beck has the tools to elevate himself if he made better decisions; but, there is no reason to expect that of him until he does it.

You are right about the OLine. Our OLine will take huge strides in each of the next two to three years.

“i cant believe we have been this many years without even serviceable QB play.. it is simply amazing! what the hell was Chuck doing?”

Jay Davis wasn’t nearly as bad as people like to think he was. I’d take him in a heartbeat today.

The problem was Marcus Stone. Not only did we pin our hopes on him, he chased away a lot of other highly-touted recruits who were scared of his reputation.

I still don’t think Glennon plays next year.
