A very good Michigan State team made us very not good.

  4. ErB 11/28/2007 at 10:58 PM #

Hey, at least it wasn’t on national tv….

  5. EverettBeez 11/28/2007 at 11:02 PM #

UMass’s big win will keep us from being the lead story.
Everyone who is watching say . . . the Republican cage match won’t know the beating we took.

LOL at this post title and picture.

I’m not going to freak out about this one, but I suspect most of my brethren will.

  7. vtpackfan 11/28/2007 at 11:06 PM #

I will continue to root for the Wolfpack in the same way indigenous tribes try to be respectful for the dead.

  8. lush 11/28/2007 at 11:07 PM #

for those who are not freaking out (and i am not one) what are your signs of encouragement? what are we doing well? what have we gotten better at since the season began?

  9. lush 11/28/2007 at 11:12 PM #

i keep telling myself that we havent played a good game yet, hoping that a good game will come, but untill we show the energy and enthusiasm that EVERY OTHER TEAM I SEE shows, i dont think its going to happen.

seriously, why does every other team on tv seem to play harder than we do? if you cant score you should at least be playing defense, if you dont you lose to UNO and lose by 30 to top 25 talent.

  10. Mr O 11/28/2007 at 11:12 PM #

Long week followed by a very tough matchup. Too much to ask at this point in the season.

  11. Wulfpack 11/28/2007 at 11:15 PM #

^Well if that is the culprit then we have have absolutely zero chance in the ACC this year. Every week is a “long” week in the ACC. Time to man up and get tough. Not every team we play is Rider or South Carolina.

  12. haze 11/28/2007 at 11:15 PM #

Well, I guess it’s good to know that, no, the team we saw in the Old Spice wasn’t really very good. I mean, 3 wins against decent competition could convince one that you’re looking at something positive. Of course, the truth is quite different.

At no time in Orlando did this club demonstrate the ability to rebound, avoid turnovers, run a fluid offense or play good team D. The hustle factor has been void all year. MSU just showed us what good basketball teams do to teams that play that way.

I sincerely hope that the players and coaches are embarrassed and ashamed of what they put on the floor tonight. I’m particularly disappointed that it’s our best players from last year, Costner and Mac, that are leading the parade of pathetic effort. Also, this may be the worst outing I can even remember from Gavin. Hickson and Horner should start the next five games on principle alone while last year’s front court serves them water and hands them nice clean towels during timeouts.

As for the staff, our supposed depth hasn’t improved the defense, the rebounding or the hustle. Tell me why and then tell me when and how you’re going to stop this mess.

  13. packk 11/28/2007 at 11:15 PM #

I think I just expected so much more from the team – at least at half time. I mean – come on – it’s the first game of the Jimmy V week. Which I would have thought – would have met something to Sid – or the kids. I think MSU is a really great team. They played an excellent game and we played an AWFUL game. ON another note – I do think the officiating worked in our favor – mainly the only points for the game. And I think the telecast crew was pretty positive on us considering how bad we sucked. I think they know that we are going to be good.

All I know is – that the Wolfpack was lack luster – no life. I know they just played a 3 (or 4??) game tournament – but come on!

Let’s hope we learn and win!!!!

    lush:

It’s not necessarily that I’m “encouraged” by much, I’m just not going to worry because we got blown out by a very, very good team in our first road game on a night when they were on and we were not. At the end of the year, this loss doesn’t hurt us, whether we lose by 2 or 25.

If the staff learns something from this loss, it won’t be a total waste. I think they are figuring out who deserves to play (Horner, JJ, Degand, Fells despite his faults) and who doesn’t.

Of course, I also was thinking we’d be about a 9-7 team in the ACC this year, if I had Final Four expectations like many did, I might be more pissed.

  15. EverettBeez 11/28/2007 at 11:21 PM #

I am not freaking out – I’d be jumping around if we’d one – but this was an ugly ugly loss to an excellent team. I think the problems we’ve commented on before really were clear today – terrible rebounding, just awful, and problems on the point – though Degrand did hit double figures (11) one of only two, and turn overs, turn overs turn overs.

Improvement? Not tonight. Actually the worse I’ve seen us play. But this is not a sprint, not a even tournament – its a marathon. We will know a lot more about Coach Lowe after this, and how the team response to this loss and plays the remainder of he season.

I actually switched over to the Republican debate on CNN. This is a sad statement.

  17. SuperStuff 11/28/2007 at 11:28 PM #

Yikes… Thank God we don’t have any Michigan State alums at work.

  18. 1.21 Jigawatts 11/28/2007 at 11:28 PM #

Well at least the ACC has won the “Challenge” so now I can fully cheer against The Evil Empire.

  19. turnoffthetv 11/28/2007 at 11:32 PM #

i have 5 words that summarize 5 games that i have watched this year

    there is no real effort

u can come up and comment with 5 paragraphs or you can come up with 5 different statistical blog entries to back this up or disagree with this fact. But if u have tuned in to the games starting with UNO u have noticed this. what if or whatever we could easily be 1 and 5 instead of 4 and 2. The hustle isnt there. the intensity isnt there.

    1-2-3-4-5.

    there(1) is(2) no(3) real(4) effort(5).

I dont see dead people. No! I see Lazy People.

  20. golf76 11/28/2007 at 11:35 PM #

Is there that much difference between #24 and #10? If so, we’re screwed for the season!

  21. redfred2 11/28/2007 at 11:36 PM #

    Starters for the next game:

Dennis Horner, JJ Hickson, Farnold Degand, Gavin Grant, and Corey Fells by default.

With Dennis Horner, playing all forty minutes, AND coming off the bench, AND helping with the coaching.

There were 0, that is ZERO, NCSU assists listed in the above linked box scores. But what is even more telling is that Fells was the only player in foul trouble. The others weren’t even making the effort or fouling out of frustration.

I hate to even type these two letters, but I am PO’ed.

  22. EverettBeez 11/28/2007 at 11:41 PM #

turnoffthetv – did you not watch the ‘Nova game?
was that not a “real effort”?

rightly so I think it was Dr. BP who criticized many of us for being to to hard on the team after the ‘Nova win.
We should be disappointed and upset with the total lack of effort we saw tonight. But it is NOT the end of the world, nor the end of the team, or the end of the season – hells afire, its the start of the season!

Am I banging my head against an unmovable wall here fellas? Still new to this.

Too many press clippings being read…not enough blood, sweat, and tears being shed.

Time to sit down…have an adult beverage and reflect. Still got teary eyed watching the V man. He had a saying…you allow yourself 24 hours of self pity after a loss…then you go on..

I think that Sid will have the same attitude. He and the staff will access the damage…make some changes…and life will go on. The NO thing was a freak…I was there and it, too, was UGLY. It can also, rightly, be said that we can NOT expect to have a 3 pt foul at the end of every game to cover up our mistakes.

This team is STILL a work in progress. We really need to dwell on the fact that we actually have TALENT and some DEPTH this year. Did anyone REALLY expect SID to produce a final four team this year? The pre-season polls were TOO misleading…and who should believe them? They are written by the likes of the Evil Empire School of J…

We will have a solid season and be a Tier I ACC school…now THAT is an improvement from last year. When I went to the ACC Tourney last year, I planned on doing some sightseeing and visit some folks AFTER we were eliminated…it did NOT happen. This year…I plan to concentrate on the Tourney…and do my socializing on MONDAY…because I DO expect us to play on Sunday again…

In addition, we will get an NCAA invite this year…how far we go…now THAT is something that a few more adult beverages will have to be consumed before I hazard a guess…OR bet the 401K on.

GO PACK…Heal thy wounds…the DEAD RED PEOPLE will rise again…and be stronger.
