A Quick Note From The Server Room

A quick site update for you folks:

Lately, Statefans Nation’s readership has increased tremendously, which is undoubtedly a combination of the Wolfpack’s improvement on the football field, the coming of hoops season and most importantly, the value that comes from spending time reading what the guys here take time to write — both in the main articles and also the insight and good debate that comes in the comments section.  That’s the good news.

The bad news is that so many folks request info from the server at one time that it is bogging down and occasionally looks to be offline.  It isn’t, actually.  It’s just saturated and cannot keep up with the number of requests it’s being given.  For example, the other day after the Miami win, over 3500 page requests were being received every second.  That’s a lot — and more than the old system was designed to handle.  When that happens you may see error pages or the site may be very slow.

Old system?  Yes — there’s a new system coming to host this site as well as RAWFS.  We’re in the process of creating and building a server with roughly sixteen times the processing power and four times the memory than the server that’s currently hosting SFN.  Once the site’s moved over, the hiccups that have plagued the system administrators should be a thing of the past.

In the meantime, please be patient while we work to make this transition as smooth as possible.  We are aware of the problems and working hard on solving them once and for all.

Thanks!

We appreciate all you do, and I, for one, can be patient. I didn’t discover the site until near the end of the reigh of HWSNBN, and didn’t realize that the team never ran plays or tapped into the university’s rich history. Totally changed a lot of my perspective.
There wasn’t anything in the “real” media to clue me in. I knew there were problems, but never had enough info to put a finger on it. Of course, living in the hills of Georgia, there isn’t a lot of N.C. State media anyway. Here, if it ain’t football red and black, it ain’t jack.

You guys put out a great service to the NC State community – keep up the good work. This site more than any other changed my opinion on the merits of blogs versus traditional media. You see more quality research and analysis on here in a month than you get from the traditional media in a year.

Let’s hope for 35,000 hits tomorrow around 3:30…

Who knows, this internet might catch on after all…

I for one have enjoyed SFN immensely over the last year or so. Why don’t you guys put up some nice low-key google ads to get something to reimburse you guys for the costs of hosting a growing site? Nothing else has to change, just my two cents.

I’d be willing to make a donation. Whether it be a one time thing or periodically. For all the time, effort and $ that goes into the site.

Thank everyone involved for all the hours and hard work it takes to keep this site up and running! Let’s hope for 50K hits at about 3:30!

IF and I do mean IF this site has trouble (or even if it doesn’t) I move that as many State fans as possible hit ALL the tarhole blogs and do some serious nose rubbing!!!!

I appreciate the extra efforts you all go to to present this high quality blogsite. I’m not surprised at all that you have such a tremendous amount of interest, keep up the good fight on behalf of all us in the “Lunatic Fringe”.

Thanks fellas for such a great site, and really the community you’ve built here.
I think it would be a great idea to have a donation day, or a donation button (maybe a fridge you can click – you know the “lunatic Fridge”!) I know you don’t do this for the money (clearly) but I know there are lots of folks who’d like to lessen the burden you guys carry.
Heck – if Ron Paul can raise $4 million in one day – just think what some really crazy a** state fans could do!!

^^^^ I love to rib them too, but stay out of their house. I pissed me off a day or two ago when that Carolina guy was on here. This is for STATE fans, sacred ground. Have at least a pinch of sportsmanship. Instead crash their cell phone tower with bragging calls.

it doesn’t seem the Google Ads is working properly on the main page.

^ so the ram’s head condom ad was a figment of my imagination?
I guess I am just projecting where carolina folks belong.

This site is freaking great. Whatever you guys need to keep it going I think you should request here and I think you will get it. One of my most memorable moments in Wolfpack fandom was reading about Walter Surles here last year.

Good luck with the upgrade and thanks for running a great site.

Get your comments on the board now, FrankManor. This baby’s gonna crash a little later.
