Heckle and Jeckel could have done the 83 game and you’d feel the same way.

Dornburg was nowhere near as great as fans like to recall. I won’t spit on the man’s grave, but Haynes is miles ahead of him.

I STILL blame Fowler for my flat tire! πŸ˜›

letÒ€ℒs try to reign in the stupidity just a little please.

You must be new here. πŸ˜‰

A long, loong time ago there was this guy doing the sports at WBT in Charlotte, whom I thought could have been perfect as NCSU’s spokesperson/announcer. He would also have been the perfect counterpart to offset Woody’s BS over in CH.

He moved on and I guess he’s done pretty well for himself these days, but I think maybe he could have been had back then. Anyone care to guess who I was thinking about?

Does Tony sound like Gary D. to anyone else but me? Granted, I went a long time not hearing Gary, especially toward the end – but when I listen to Tony now, it sure sounds like Gary.

After spending the opening weeks wallowering in our discontent, it sure is nice to be reading positives about this team.

I am convinced if Fowler were fired, this awful drought would end. The rain drought.

    Is it Terry Gannon redfred?
he actually a very good announcer in my book. bless his heart, stuck on the ice skating circuit.

  7. redfred2 10/28/2007 at 10:11 PM #

    Yes and no.

Yes Beez, Haynes and Dornberg sound ALOT ALIKE.

No Beez, it’s not Gannon, I don’t think he ever did local sports. This may not sit well with some people nowadays, but back then he was very involved with the local HS programs and not biased on any level, or he didn’t show it anyway. Like I said before, I thought he had/has the enthusiam and personality to fit perfectly at NCSU, and he is definitely more likeable than Woody.

I was thinking of a young Mike Hogewood.

  8. EverettBeez 10/28/2007 at 10:21 PM #

    1 for 2, I’ll take that!
I think you are right that Gannon never did local sports, and went right to ABC from the git go.
Hogewood huh, not familiar with him myself.

“I am convinced if Fowler were fired, this awful drought would end. The rain drought.”

We sure could use some Fowler weather.

Beez, you know Mike HOGwood, Jefferson Pilot broadcasting.

  11. noah 10/28/2007 at 10:47 PM #

Terry Gannon used to work with Raycom/JP before he worked for ABC/ESPN. He used to do halftime stuff for basketball games.

someone put up a Miami thread already

Hey, Daniel Evans is now in the “Right Half” of QBs in the QB rating system. (They brought it down to 100, but there’s 119 Division 1A schools, so…)

The UVA game was my first back in Raleigh since 1981. Boy what a good one to come back on. I was very impressed with the stadium but have a few observations as a newby:
    1. The place was pretty noisy but not intimidating. We definitely need some help with organzied cheers.
    2. Maybe it was due to the weather, but some red paint on the field would have been nice.
    3. I was disappointed that many of the season ticket holder seats were empty. It the wolfpack club doesn’t already have a program to sell tickets that can’t be used then they should start one like other schools. Every seat should be filled – not just sold. Also, many seats that were filled later were empty at the kickoff. We came in an hour before kickoff and strolled through the gate with no wait/unreasonable search.
    4. Can’t figure out why the two sections across the field from the towers and to the right weren’t filled. Looked like they didn’t sell any of those tickets. Also, the end zone seats at the RBC end weren’t completely filled either.
    5. I was really disappointed that we didn’t get to see the replay on the calls that were under review. I understand not prompting a review but if the officials have already called it, why do only those with a small TV get to see it? I got really tired on the block logo when a critical play hung in the balance.
    6. I was really impressed with the whole team and agree with the comments above about sportsmanship and attitude. They conducted themselves with class.
    7. Really liked that the team stops by the student section and band area before heading in to the locker room.
    8. If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have believed it. This was not the same team I’ve been watching on TV. Great job guys and keep up the hard work.

    Go Pack!

I think the rain had something to do with the absence of field paint.

  16. noah 10/29/2007 at 1:48 PM #

BTW, looks like there was good reason why Haynes asked the question that he did.

“Running back Jamelle Eugene told us after the Virginia win that some players realized that doing it their way wasn’t working and that maybe it was time to start listening to what the coaches were saying.”

  17. packpigskinfan23 10/29/2007 at 2:32 PM #

Wolftown- I hated no paint as well. it was ugly, but the rain had to be the reason. The two sections across from Vaughn that you are talking about are the last of the student sections to get filled. a lot of students, instead of being in their seats will stand on the endzones at top. A lot also leave early to party, and a lot just dont show up. It also still takes FOREVER to get in if your a student, unless you get there an hour early.

  18. Keystone 10/29/2007 at 2:35 PM #

^^^ I think that the empty seats you are referring to are the student sections 14/15. It’s really disappointing and while I’d like to blame the ticket distribution system, I think there was just a lack of interest in this game.

  19. WolftownVA81 10/29/2007 at 4:20 PM #

Thanks for the feedback. Someone in the AD’s office should be looking into this. Anyone seeing the obviously empty two sections would assume something is wrong with the structure since no one was in them initially and then only in the first 10 rows or so after the game started. Maybe student interest will be on the rise after the last two games. Still, it’s a shame to see the empty seats.

  20. noah 10/29/2007 at 4:27 PM #

Someone told me that students get tickets to games, go into C-F, and then leave. They don’t care about the football game, they just want to rack up points so they can get basketball tickets.

    Any truth to that?

  21. Keystone 10/29/2007 at 4:32 PM #

Noah, the system doesn’t work that way. Basketball and Football are treated separately. It is possible that there are students who enter the game and then leave right away so that they aren’t penalized for getting a ticket and not using it. I think there is a problem where students cancel their tickets near the deadline and others don’t have an opportunity to get those tickets; however, I don’t think that accounts for the large number of empty seats.

  22. pakfanistan 10/29/2007 at 4:33 PM #

I doubt that’s true. I don’t remember attendance for one sport hurting you in another sport.

For the student wolfpack club, there are people who go to volleyball games and the like so they can get points and tickets for football and basketball games though.

  23. packpigskinfan23 10/29/2007 at 4:42 PM #

Keystone is right. 14/15 is the last section to fill up as well, so whoever just goes to get their ticket scanned almost always goes late and recieves that section. I thought the student turnout was pretty comparable to the season ticket turnout though. There were MANY empty seats on the Vaughn Towers side, they just werent as concentrated. Technician said today that the attentence was down over 1,500 from last years homecoming vs GaTech.

Vegas odds has us giving 13, seems a sconch high. We have 19 players on our team from Florida, and quite a few of our impact players are from greater Miami-Dade. Willie Young, who’s been coming on like gangbsuters, John Ware, Javon Walker, Jimmie Sutton, Miguel Scott, James Martin, John Dunlap (who plays I betcha), Audi Augustin, and Darrell Davis are from within an hour from the Orange Bowl, and Ray Michel and Jamelle Eugene are also from relatively close on the other side of the peninsula. Our guys maybe a little overmatched talent wise and they are coming off a bye, but we have a little more experience and this game will mean a great deal to a lot of our players. I can see us keeping it real close.

Oh and the Morgan Brothers are also from Miam Dade. Sorry for the second post.
