[3:30 update] Roy Williams discusses shooting NC State fans

Don’t know what is wilder — (a) Roy’s comments or (b) the fact that the News & Observer didn’t feel compelled to even mention the comments in their headline – “Roy Williams disgusted with UNC fans selling tickets in Las Vegas”

“You know you get tired of that. But it’s something that’s always bothered me. It will always bother me. A hundred years ago I’m watching in Lawrence, Kansas, and North Carolina’s playing North Carolina State and there were five million red shirts in the crowd. And if I’d had a BB gun, five million red shirts would have had a burned rear end. Because I just don’t like those kinds of things. I mean, seriously.

In CLASSIC UNC fashion, these comments ring through with hypocrisy, insensitivity and an inconsistent application of standards that really can ONLY happen in Chapel Hill. Only in the BASTION of liberalism where extreme gun control laws are cheered would the most popular man in town get away with advocating the malicious use of ANY kind of fire arm against another human being (thank God he didn’t suggest shooting an animal…that would have been worse).

I can only wonder what the families of the victims of Wendell Williamson (link) must be thinking right now?

Of course, the other part of Williams’ comments are not without hilarious hypocrisy. Leave it to our friends at Pack Pride to point out that STUB HUB, the online ticket re-seller, is a sponsor of UNC Basketball and athletics.

I’m guessing UNC-CH’s new (so called) “Athletics Director” now knows how is REALLY in charge in Chapel Hill!

    Roy just doesn’t like opposing fans ruining his team’s concentration. One would think that after all these years of coaching, that he would have learned that is kinda how it works!

    And seriously, if State fans are filling Carolina’s stadiums, isn’t his problem really with CAROLINA FANS anyway?

    The UNC athletic department AND the local media have been giving Roy a very long leash for some time now. Dropping F bombs in press conferences, comparing a mediocre season to the earthquake in Haiti, having fans kicked out of the Dean Dome, alluding to shooting NC State fans, etc, etc, etc… He is really pushing the envelope every year, and if he’s not reeled in soon I think he’s really going to say OR do something that he is going to really regret. It’s only a matter of time.

    It is fun to watch him bash his own fan base though.

    What caught my attention were the comments Roy made about the action of fans as they stormed the floor. I capped off my saturday, after enjoying the comeback in CF, by watching the BB gods fall. Roy could not possably have seen what happened as they stormed the floor because he was running off the floor with his team rather than having them congratulate their opponents.

    Roy could not possably have seen what happened as they stormed the floor because he was running off the floor with his team rather than having them congratulate their opponents.

    In his defense, he did walk over and speak to UNLV’s coach during a stoppage of play to inform him that his team would be heading for the locker room as soon as it was over to avoid the crowd rushing the floor. It was (understandably) for safety reasons.

    I can’t get too overworked at Huckleberry Hound for this one. After all, how many of us haven’t wanted to shoot a Carolina fan or two at one point or another? But I would warn him that most NCSU fans (the ones I know, at least) are not exactly those who would lobby against the NRA. If he were to show up with a BB gun and take a shot, it would likely only piss his target off…who would then likely return the volley with significantly more firepower.

    Now that I think about it, that would actually be fun to watch. Maybe I’ll buy Roy an official Red Ryder carbine action two hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time.

    And the “you’ll shoot your eye out” idea is fantastic IMHO.

    Win lose or draw we have to chant “you’ll shoot your eye out”

    The bigger question is how do we sneak opposing teams colors into the Nose Dome. Especially in the Rams club section. I would love to get ahold of even one ticket there and send Cousin Eddie to all the games it the opposing schools colors just to push Ole Roy Boy a little closer to the ledge.

    What a dumbass. He not only puts the douche in douche bag, but he also puts the freak in control freak. People who own tickets can sell or give them to anyone. They do not have to ask for ol’ Roy’s permission. Personally, it pisses me off when I see alot of baby blue in the courtside seats of the RBC, but I do not want to shoot the Hole fans in those seats. I am upset at the State fans who put Hole fans in those seats. Roy really seems to be losing touch with reality in light of some of his actions and commments over the last few years. I used to think Roy was a standup dude, but I think that is just because he was so far away in Kansas and before that Dean had his assistants on a very tight leash regarding talking to the media. I hope K and Gott destroy Roy’s teams over the next few years leading up to Roy’s retirement.
